FROM THE DESK OF THE EDITOR: S/K Adrien Piche After a wonderful summer of rest and relaxation we are now entering into the most colourful time of the year when all the leaves will be turning into their beautiful array of arrangements and the harvest is coming to an end. The summer has produced a harvest of abundance and we are also harvesting the goodness of the Lord in our lives. As we enter into this abundance, which the Lord has given us, we are asked to renew our vigour for all the activities, which are ahead of us, which include all regular activity in the DArcy McGee Assembly. This invitation will bring the members up-to-date on the planned activities, Roster up date as of September 25, 2013, as well as a Calendar of events for the year. The enclosed planner is subject to change if necessary and will be up dated if there are any changes. May we all find strength in one another and may we work to be our brothers keepers. May God Bless all of us in this new Columbian Year?

Brother Knights: Summer has come and gone, and I have missed the beautiful weather outside. Approximately two months were spent in the hospital (RUH), and I wish to say a big thank you for your thoughts and prayers after my initial surgery for a pinched nerve in my lower spine and four more surgeries for infection on my incision site. I am finally at home recovering. Your care, concern and love have been a great support to me, and strength of the Holy Spirit has seen me through. May the year ahead be one of good health, joy and peace for all of us? Monsignor Raymond Senger (Faithful Friar)

ROSTER UPDATES:
FAITHFUL TRUSTEE 1ST YEAR S/K Reynaldo Meneses
Page 2 September 2013 Newsletter DArcy McGee Assembly - S/K Adrien Piche FAITHFUL NAVIGATORS MESSAGE: In 1882, the Reverend Michael J. McGivney had founded the Knights of Columbus to provide mutual aid and assistance to its Members and their families. At that time the Order had only three Degrees exemplifying the principles of Charity, Unity and Fraternity. In compliance with the wishes of the body as a whole, the national board of directors met in August 1899 and approved the addition of a Fourth Degree to the work of the Knights of Columbus. The new ritual was adopted on the 9th of December and went into effect in 1900 with its primary purpose to foster the spirit of patriotism through the demonstration of ones love for its country and by responsible citizenship. It is the highest Degree in the Knights of Columbus, giving a greater knowledge and appreciation for our Catholic heritage. To qualify in 1900, a brother knight had to have been a Member for three years and played an active role in the community. Today an applicant must be over 18 years of age, a citizen of the country in which he resides and a Third Degree Member in good standing and initiated in the admissions Degree at least six months prior to his initiation in the Fourth Degree . I know that I have spoken often about the benefits of being a Knight of Columbus, and particularly a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. My membership in the Knights has been a life-changing event, helping me be a better Catholic, husband, and father. I also truly believe that by being a Knight I have joined a new family, being adopted by my Brothers, who are there for me and me for them in our time of need. This 'family' gives me a great sense of security, which I believe we should constantly express to any Catholic gentleman who needs a 'reason' to join the Knights. And the 4th Degree only adds to the family of Brothers. My life is all the richer for knowing all of you and expanding my circle of friends far beyond the confines of my Parish and Council. I am constantly amazed by the people I have met from not only the other Councils that make up our Assembly, but also those Brother Sir Knights from other Assemblies. I would never have had this opportunity without being a member of the 4 th Degree. And we need to communicate this opportunity to all of our 3rd Degree Brothers. I also truly believe that I have become a better Citizen by belonging to the 4th Degree. It goes beyond the good works we accomplish by joining together as an Assembly and District and Province. Sure, we as Catholics should be aware of the moral and social teachings of the Church. But being a Knight of Columbus, and a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, makes me more sensitive to these issues and gives me more opportunities to act on them. Therefore I am asking each of us to concentrate our efforts to bring in as many candidates as possible to this year's exemplification. I am asking for your support and prayers in this endeavour, and I am confident, with the assistance of the Holy Spirit, that we will be successful. As always, I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming meetings, and continue to solicit your suggestions about making our Assembly more productive in serving our Country and relevant to all of our Brother Sir Knights and their families. Please keep Praying for our Faithful Friar, Monsignor Raymond Senger as he recovers from his surgery. He is finally home again after a long stay in University Hospital. Gratefully and fraternally yours Abel deSa FN
Page 3 September 2013 Newsletter DArcy McGee Assembly - S/K Adrien Piche DArcy McGee Assembly would like to say a GREAT BIG THANK YOU to Emmanuel Stang for his long and faithful service as fraternal chairman of our assembly as we say God Bless you and your family. Emmanuel had asked if someone else would be able to take on this ministry. Jack Bennett has graciously accepted this ministry and we thank him for this service on our behalf.
If there are any changes to your address, phone number, notify S/K Ron Frehlich, F.C., and or S/K Adrien Piche, Editor. When a member is sick or hospitalized, please notify our fraternal chairman, Jack Bennett.
For most men who follow Jesus, there comes a time when duty extends beyond our own lives, beyond how we lead our families, and into how we serve our fellow man. That's what the Knights of Columbus is all about? The Patriotic Degree allows K of C members to take this one step further. "Sir Knight" is more than a title its an Honor. The Color Corps is an elective division of the Patriotic Degree that presents a visible reminder of our service to the community.
