14 Days of Fasting & Prayer

!
Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and nd me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the Lord Jeremiah 29:12-14

Begins January 1, 2014

Fast AT LEAST one day per week. Why Fast? Fasting was an expected discipline in both the Old and New Testament eras. For example, Moses fasted at least two recorded forty-day periods. Jesus fasted 40 days and reminded His followers to fast, "when you fast," not if you fast. Fasting and prayer can restore the loss of the "rst love" for your Lord and result in a more intimate relationship with Christ. Fasting is a biblical way to truly humble yourself in the sight of God (Psalm 35:13; Ezra 8:21). King David said, "I humble myself through fasting." Fasting enables the Holy Spirit to reveal your true spiritual condition, resulting in brokenness, repentance, and a transformed life. The Holy Spirit will quicken the Word of God in your heart and His truth will become more meaningful to you! Fasting can transform your prayer life into a richer and more personal experience. Fasting can result in a dynamic personal revival in your own life-and make you a channel of revival to others. Wesley Fast: Begin your fast after the evening meal. Abstain from breakfast and lunch and spend that time in prayer and reading of the word. Break the fast with the evening meal. During the fasting hours consume no solid food. Body, Soul, Spirit Body: Fasting from food effects the body physically. When you fast you bring your body, your appetites, your esh into submission to the authority of Christ. Soul: While you are fasting from food, you may also choose to fast from things that dele the soul. Your soul is your mind and emotions. Seasons of fasting can also be seasons of stillness and waiting quietly before the Lord. In addition to fasting from meals God may also call you to set aside television, social media, video games, your cell phone, etc. Ask the Lord what needs to go during these 14 days that you may better hear Him. Spirit: As you replace meal times with extended, uninterrupted times of prayer and reading of Gods word, your spirit will be strengthened and experience deeper intimacy with the Lord. What are you seeking? Gods vision and purpose for your life individually. Gods vision for your family. Gods vision for our church family corporately. Gods vision for you in ministry. Other Guidelines: Be specic. Ask God to give you a specic word, phrase, or picture. Write it down. When the Lord impresses something upon your heart write it down even if it seems odd, insignicant, or strange. Expect great things! God promises that when we draw near to Him He draws near to us. Enjoy this experience!
