This Guide is aimed at end-users of the data provided by Streamlines EMIS service. It explains what the data is, where it comes from, and how it relates to other data provided by Streamline. EMIS consists of a number of separate modules and you should therefore agree with your Streamline Sales/Account Manager as to which individual modules you require. You may not need all the data that Streamline provides, and accordingly your developers will only need to integrate those fields within the various modules described in the document which meet your business needs. It is NOT aimed at technical IT staff they need the separate EMIS Technical Specification document which explains how to collect and interpret the data files. This document assumes that your organisation has applied the necessary internal IT technical resources to ensure that the EMIS data: is downloaded from Streamline each day/week/month as appropriate is imported it into your own office systems is formatted and available for you to use If this is not the case, then you need to arrange for IT input to achieve this.
3.
What is EMIS?
EMIS stands for Electronic Management Information System. EMIS provides the capability for your organisation to download raw data files containing detailed information about card transactions that we have processed on your behalf.
4.
This Guide cannot tell you what your data looks like, or how it is presented to you. This is determined by what your IT staff have done with the data in order to make it available to you, and where they have stored it. You need to find out from them where it is and how you can access it and cross-reference it with other data from your own IT systems. It cannot tell you what you need to do with the data, or how you use it. That is for you to decide once you understand what the data represents only you can decide the best way to interpret the data to help you in your day to day activities.
5.
There are a number of EMIS modules, but the main EMIS modules are described over the following pages: RFI and Chargebacks Streamline Transaction Reconciliation Fraud Data Currency Processing and Settlement Streamline Invoice Information BIN data - PLEASE NOTE: According to the Visa International rules, section 5.1.B Honouring Cards you must accept all payments presented to you. BIN File data must only be used for anti-fraud purposes and/or DCC processing. It must NOT be used to restrict certain BIN ranges or to configure point of sales terminals. If you require any further information please contact us. Page 5 of 54
EMIS
Refer to each section to see details of exactly what fields are reported in the modules, and where the data come from. The Field numbers provided below correspond to the Field Numbers in the EMIS Technical Specification Version 15. Reserved or Null fields are not given.
6.
Testing
EMIS data is not available from data processed though the Streamline Test system. If you require example data prior to your submission of live customer data into Streamline, we recommended that you work through a live proving stage from which EMIS data can be taken.
7.
There are some concepts that are vital for your understanding of how the data is structured and grouped: Processing Date the date on which Streamline processed your transaction usually the first weekday after you submit the transaction to us for processing. Note that this will always be later than the date you took the transaction. While Streamline will accept and store submissions of transactions on every day of the year, we only process those transactions on UK working weekdays. This means that transactions submitted on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays will be processed by us on the following Monday. UK public holidays will further extend the timescales. For example at Easter, Streamline will process transactions on the Tuesday after the Friday-to-Monday public holiday and these transactions will relate to those submitted to us between Thursday and Monday. Acquired/Processed transactions from certain Card Schemes are handled differently by Streamline, at the request of the card scheme. Acquired transactions mean that we will settle to you for the value of the transaction. The value will be included in a credit from Streamline to your nominated bank account, and we will be able to answer any queries relating to the acquisition of the transaction. Processed transactions are ones that we merely collect from you and pass to another acquirer for settlement. In these cases, the credit to your bank account will come from the other acquirer. Examples are Diners Card and American Express. You will need to contact them if you have any queries about the acquisition of these transactions. Accepted/Pending/Rejected Most transactions are Accepted they flow from your system through ours without any problems. On occasion, however, we may find something wrong with the transaction, in which case we are unable to handle it. Initially such problematic transactions will have a status of Pending, while we investigate them. We will try to cure the problem so that they can flow on through our system, but there may be one or more days delay as a result. If we are unable to correct the problem, then we will classify them as Rejected, and we will have to hand them back to you for investigation we will write to you with full details about why they rejected, and suggest further action for you to take.

RFI and Chargeback files contain the information given in the Request for Information and Chargeback letters produced during a given days processing. The data is provided as a supplement to the physical letters that will continue to be produced and despatched. The obligation to respond will be indicated by the standard letter EMIS will purely be providing early advice. Files are produced daily. Empty files are produced when there is no information to be reported. Note that if a merchant has both UK Domestic and International (Non-domestic) Companies set up to receive EMIS they may need to pull back up to three files for RFIs (i.e. MCI/Visa UK Domestic, MCI/Visa International, Solo) and three similar files for Chargebacks. The format of the MCI/Visa files differs slightly depending on whether the Company number is UK Domestic or International. The International file includes a status field, instead of the cardscheme, as well as local and crediting currencies and amounts The data provided by Streamline includes the following fields for each Request for Information (RFI) and Chargeback record:

This file lists all transactions processed by Streamline in any particular daily processing run detailing by individual transaction the status (Accepted, Pending or Rejected) of those transactions. Associated transaction information such as card expiry date, transaction amount, authorisation code, transaction reference, local and settlement currencies, and local and settlement values are also given. It does not contain details of, or summaries by, card type. The file also contains Outlet, Company and File hash total summaries. The Outlet summary (type 10 record) will always summarise the associated Outlet batch in the local currency. If only one currency is involved the hash totals at Company and File level may also be used as summaries of the associated data. However, if several transaction and crediting currencies are involved the Company (type 05 record) and File (type 00 record) summaries will be hash numeric totals of mixed currencies. The information in this file reflects what is reported in standard Streamline International Reports. These are the Terminal Transaction Report (a list of processed transactions shown as A on the EMIS reconciliation file); Batch Held Pending Analysis (reflected as P in the reconciliation file); and the Batch Held Correction Analysis report (shown in the reconciliation file as R if rejected, or A if forced through). These reports are available electronically, if required. A transaction may show as status P if it is rejected during validation for a transaction-level error (for example invalid authorisation code or invalid check digit). These transactions may either be forced through and processed (as in the case of a recently expired card) or deleted (as in the case of an incorrect PAN or check digit). If forced through, a transaction showing as P one day will show as A the next; if deleted it will show as R. Any deletions are notified separately by post, or in Streamline Exception reports, which can be made available electronically. All cardschemes acquired by, or routed through, Streamline International are reported in this file (including American Express, JCB and Diners Club). The file is produced daily. An empty file is produced when there is no information to be reported. There are minor differences in the way Domestic and International Currency data is presented please see Appendices C1 and C2 for interpretations of Reconciliation files. Note that the transactions are grouped by Streamline Processing Date. The information supplied is split into the following elements: Summary Details Field 1 2 3 4 5 6 Name Record Type Sequence No File ID Count Accepted Credits Rejected Credits Description 00 Always 00000001 Always 0000000000921 The number of Company level (05) records in the file, and therefore the number of Company level batches we have processed for you. The Fraud file contains fraudulent transaction information provided by MasterCard and Visa based upon transactions submitted by a merchant. There are two versions both of which are created from confirmed fraud data received from the cardschemes a daily file created after each processing day and a monthly file created on the first working day of the month and giving all the previous months fraud data. It should be noted that Visa produce daily fraudulent transaction updates, whereas MasterCard only produce their updates monthly. The data is available at Outlet level and may contain information on transactions that have already been charged back. It should be noted that not all transactions reported as fraudulent will be charged back; this depends on individual Card Issuers criteria.
