Finished Measurements
Waist: Approx 24 (27, 29, 33) inches (lightly
stretched; ribbing expands to accommodate
larger waists comfortably)
Hips: Approx 33 (36, 39, 45) inches

Size 6 (4mm) 40-inch circular needle and set

in calculating hip sizes.
Pattern Stitches
A. Pleats (multiple of 21 sts + 2)
Row 1 (RS): K8, sl 1p wyif (inside edge
of pleat), k6, sl 1p wyib (outside of pleat),
*k13, sl 1p wyif, k6, sl 1p wyib; rep from
* to last 7 sts, end k7.
Row 2: K1, purl to last st, end k1.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 for pat.
B. Broken Rib (multiple of 7 sts + 2)
Row 1 (RS): K1, *k1, p1, k4, p1; rep from
* across.
Row 2: K1, purl to last st, k1.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 for pat.
Front/Back
Make 2
With larger circular needle, cast on 254,
(275, 296, 338) sts. Beg with Row 1, work
32 rows of pleat pat or until skirt mea-
sures 4 inches, ending with a WS row.
Next row (folding row): K1, *sl next
7 sts onto first dpn, sl following 7 sts
onto 2nd dpn, turn 2nd dpn so that WS
of sts on 2nd dpn is facing WS of sts on
LH needle and RS of sts on 2nd dpn is
facing RS of sts on first dpn (2 dpns are
behind LH needle with all sts on same
level), [knit tog first st on
LH needle with first st
on each of dpns] 7 times
(pleat completed); rep from
* to last st, end k1. (86, 93,
100, 114 sts rem)
Body
With larger circular needle,
k1, purl to last st, k1.
Work in Broken Rib for
44 rows or until skirt measures 6 inches
from folding row. Lengthen or shorten
here if desired.
Dec row (RS): K1, *k1, p1, k2tog, k2,
p1; rep from *, end k1. (74, 80, 86,
98 sts rem)
Row 2: K1, purl to last st, end k1.
Row 3: K1, *k1, p1, k3, p1; rep from *,
end k1.
Row 4: K1, purl to last st, end k1.
Rep Rows 3 and 4 for 36 rows, or until
skirt measures 11 inches from folding
row, ending with a WS row.
Waistband
Change to smaller needles.
Row 1 (RS): K1, * k1, p1; rep from *,
end k1.
Row 2: *P1, k1; rep from * to last 2 sts,
end p2.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 until waistband
measures 1 inches and skirt measures
17 inches from bottom of pleats to top of
ribbing. Bind off on RS in pat.
Assembly
Block, using steam to shape pleats and
let dry. Sew side seams. n
To keep bottom of
pleats closed while
blocking, work a row
of running st at the
bottom of pleats on
reverse side.
