3.- Description of operation
3.1.- General description
3.1.1.- Using the appliance for the first time Important! The first time the appliance is turned on and each time it is plugged in, when the main ON/OFF switch (A) is pressed, the appliance will perform an AUTO-DIAGNOSIS cycle and then turn off. To turn it on again, press the button (C7) on the control panel. Coffee has been used in the factory to test the appliance, therefore it is completely normal to find traces of coffee in the coffee grinder. You are assured that this coffee machine is new. You should customise the appliance to your water hardness as soon as possible by following the instructions described in the "Setting the water hardness" chapter. 1. Connect the appliance to the mains supply. Select a language: 2. To programme the English language, wait until you see the display message: "PRESS OK TO INSTALL ENGLISH". While this message appears, hold the OK button for 3 seconds at least (fig. 1) until the message "ENGLISH INSTALLED" appears in the display. After this, the coffee machine will display the settings message in English. If you select the wrong language, follow the instructions contained in the "Changing the language" chapter to select the right one. Continue by following the instructions provided by the appliance: 3. After 5 seconds, the appliance will display "FILL TANK": In order to fill the water tank, remove it (fig. 2), rinse it and fill it with fresh water without exceeding the MAX. line. Replace the tank and push it in as far as it will go. 4. Place a cup under the hot water spout (fig. 3). (If the spout is not fitted, the appliance will display "INSERT WATER SPOUT". Assemble it by following the instructions in fig. 4 and make sure to align the arrows on the spout with those on the appliance control panel). The appliance now displays: "PRESS OK". Press the OK button (fig. 1) and after a few seconds, a little water will emerge from the spout. (Dispensing stops automatically). 5. The appliance now displays: "TURNING OFF... PLEASE WAIT" and then turns off. 6. Remove the appliance by pulling it out using the handles (fig. 5), take off the lid and fill the container with coffee beans. Next, close the lid and push the appliance back into the unit. Warning: To prevent malfunction, do not add ground coffee, freeze-dried coffee, caramelised beans or other substances that could damage the appliance to the coffee bean container. The coffee machine is now ready for normal use.

Description of operation
Important! When using the coffee machine for the first time, you need to make 4/5 coffees and 4/5 cappuccinos before getting satisfactory results. 3.1.2.- Turning on and heating up Each time the appliance is turned on, it performs an automatic preheat and rise cycle that cannot be interrupted. The appliance will only be ready for use after this cycle. Risk of burns! During the rinse cycle, a little hot water will emerge from the coffee spout nozzles. Avoid contact with the splashes of water. To turn on the appliance, press the button (fig. 6). The appliance will display the message HEATING... PLEASE WAIT. When the appliance has heated up, another message will appear: RINSE. This way, in addition to heating the boiler, the appliance will dispense hot water through all the inner circuits to heat them. The appliance has heated up when it displays the message "READY FOR NORMAL STRENGTH USE". 3.1.3.- Preparing coffee (using coffee beans) 1. The coffee machine has been preset to prepare normal strength coffee. Coffee can be prepared as extra weak, weak, strong or extra strong. To select the strength, press the button (fig. 7). The coffee strength selected will appear in the display. 2. Place a cup under the nozzles if you want to prepare 1 coffee (fig. 8) or 2 cups for 2 coffees (fig. 9). For a better crema, bring the nozzle as close as possible to the cups by lowering it (fig. 10). 3. Press the button if you want a short coffee (fig. 11) or the button to prepare a normal coffee or the button for a long coffee. If you want to prepare 2 coffees, press the button twice (within 2 seconds). If you want to change the quantity of coffee automatically dispensed in the cup, follow the steps described in the next chapter. (Now the coffee machine grinds the beans and dispenses the coffee into the cup). Once the predetermined amount of coffee has been dispensed, the coffee machine automatically stops and discharges the spent ground coffee in the coffee grounds container). 4. After a few seconds, the coffee machine displays the message READY FOR USE and another coffee can be made. 5. To turn the appliance off, press the button. (Before turning off, the coffee machine will be automatically rinsed; a little hot water will energe from the nozzles that will be collected in the drip tray. Take care to not scald yourself). NOTE 1: If the coffee emerges a drop at a time or not at all, turn the grinding adjustment knob (fig. 12) one position clockwise (see the "Adjusting the coffee grinder" chapter).
12
t e c h n i c a l
Description of operation
Continue to turn it one position at a time until the coffee output is satisfactory. NOTE 2: If the coffee is dispensed too fast or the crema is not satisfactory, turn the grinding adjustment knob one position anti-clockwise (fig. 12) (see the "Adjusting the coffee grinder" chapter). Make sure that you do not turn the adjustment knob excessively when you want to make 2 cups of coffee as the coffee will be dispensed in drops. NOTE 3: Tips for hotter coffee: When you turn the coffee machine on, if you want to make a short cup of coffee (less than 60 cc), use the hot water from the rinse to heat the cups. Otherwise, if more than 2/3 minutes have passed since the last coffee made, before making another one, you should heat the infuser by pressing the button (fig. 13). Allow the water to drain off into the drip tray or fill (and then empty) the coffee cup with this water to heat it. Unless preheated, do not use excessively thick cups as they absorb too much heat. Use cups that have been heated by rinsing them with hot water. NOTE 4: While the coffee machine is making the coffee, the output can be interrupted at any time by pressing the previously selected button, or or . NOTE 5: As soon as coffee dispensing stops, to increase the amount of coffee in the cup, hold the previously selected button, or or buttons, until reaching the desired amount (this operation must be done within 3 seconds after dispensing). NOTE 6: When the appliance displays "FILL TANK", fill the water tank or otherwise no coffee emerge. (Normally, when this message appears, there is still a little water in the tank). NOTE 7: After making 14 single (or 7 double) coffees, the appliance displays the message: "EMPTY GROUNDS CONTAINER", indicating that the coffee grounds container is full and must be emptied and cleaned. Until the grounds container has been cleaned, the appliance will continue to display the message and will not make any more coffees. To clean it, open the service door located on the front of the machine by pulling the handle (fig. 14), then remove the drip tray (fig. 15), empty and clean the container.

Description of operation
When cleaning, remove the drip tray completely to prevent it from falling when the grounds container is removed. Empty the coffee grounds container and clean it thoroughly, making sure to remove all residue on the bottom. Warning: When you remove the drip tray, you MUST empty the grounds container even if it is not full. If this is not done, when you next make coffee, the coffee grounds container may fill up more than expected and clog the coffee machine. NOTE 8: Never remove the water tank while the appliance is making coffee. If it is removed, the appliance will be unable to make coffee and it will display: "GROUND TOO FINE ADJUST GRINDER, INSERT WATER SPOUT AND PRESS OK". To use the appliance again, insert the hot water spout (fig. 4) if not already in position, then press OK and dispense water from the spout for a few seconds. 3.1.4.- Changing the quantity of coffee in the cup The coffee machine has been preset to automatically dispense the following quantities of coffee: -short coffee (40 ml), by pressing the -normal coffee (80 ml), by pressing the -long coffee (125 ml), by pressing the button. button. button.
To change these quantities, proceed as follows: - Press the (or or ) button that you want to change for at least 5 seconds and then release it until the appliance displays PROGRAM QUANTITY and it starts to dispense the coffee. - When the coffee in the cup reaches the desired level, press the same button again to memorise the new amount. The appliance is now re-programmed with the new settings and displays "READY FOR USE". 3.1.5.- Adjusting the coffee grinder The coffee should not require adjustment initially as it has been preset to prepare coffee correctly. However, if after making the first few coffees, dispensing is either too fast or too slow (drops), this can be corrected by adjusting the grinding adjustment knob (fig. 12). Turn the knob one position clockwise (one number) for quicker coffee output (not in drops).
14
t e c h n i c a l
Description of operation
Turn the knob one position anti-clockwise for slower coffee output and a better crema. Adjustment will only be evident after at least 2 cups of coffee have been made. The grinding adjustment knob must only be turned when the coffee grinder is in operation. For slower output and a better crema, turn the knob anti-clockwise one position (= finer ground coffee). For quicker output (not in drops), turn the knob clockwise one position (= coarser ground coffee). (Coffee has been used in the factory to test the appliance, therefore it is completely normal to find traces of coffee in the grinder. You are assured that this coffee machine is new). 3.1.3.- Preparing espresso coffee with ground coffee (instead of coffee beans) Press the button (fig. 16) to select the ground coffee function (this disables the coffee grinder function). The appliance now displays "READY FOR GROUND USE". Remove the appliance by pulling it outwards using the handles. Lift the central lid, place one measure of ground coffee in the funnel (fig. 17). Push the appliance back in and then proceed as described in the "Preparing coffee (using coffee beans)". Warning: Only 1 coffee can be made at at time by pressing the or or button. After using the machine with ground coffee, to return to using beans, you must deactivate the ground coffee function by pressing the button again to enable the coffee grinder. NOTE 1: Never add ground coffee when the coffee machine is turned off as it could spread through the inside of the appliance. NOTE 2: Never add more than one level measure as either the machine will not make the coffee and the ground coffee will be dispersed inside the appliance, dirting it or the coffee will be dispensed a drop at a time. NOTE 3: Use the measure provided to add the correct quantity of coffee.
