All Students enrolled in EDU 202 will do a visit and analysis of a community agency that services children and families in Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania or Maryland. An interview will be conducted to gain the following information: - Mission statementour mission The YMCA is an association of people of all ages, ethnic groups and religious affiliations that strives to cultivate the human potential, self- esteem and dignity of all people. A one-page summary of your feelings as to the agencys usefulness to children and their families will need to be included. The Dover YMCA has a lot of resources and activities available to children and their families in the surrounding community. Some of the services available are 90 minutes per day of childcare while the parent/s work out and are committed to healthy living, Club 58, Friday Fun, and youth enrichment classes. All of the classes, childcare, and before and after school care teach character value traits and empower the children. Club 58 is open to students in grades five through eight, every other Saturday for a minimum fee. While there, the YMCA is closed to the public. The children are encouraged to play basketball in the newly constructed gymnasium, swim in the 4 lane pool with water slide, and interact with their peers. The Dover YMCA currently serves over 7600 members. There are often over 200 students attending Club 58, over 150 children watched in Kid Zone per week, and 96 children are currently enrolled in our before and after school care program. This branch does not receive any federal funding, however it does receive some state funding in regards to purchase of care for before and after school care program. The current budget for the Dover branch is all most 3 million dollars. All money received at the Dover branch stays at the Dover Branch which enables them to continue to provide for the families in the community with wonderful enriching activities. The Dover YMCA recently purchased the Kent Swim Club outdoor pool. There are plans to expand around the pool with new youth sports fields. All staff members are required to be CPR & first aid certified, have a soft background check completed on them, and attend the Darkness to Light training. This training focuses on recognizing and dealing with child sexual abuse.

I strongly feel that the Dover YMCA is a great resource and very useful to families and children in the community. There are amazing opportunities for the children to grow, to learn important character value traits, and to learn healthy living habits.
