1 Methodology/Procedure 2 Process Flow Diagram (PFD) 3 Workbook 4 Theory

This document contains information about a laboratory experiment on separating a mixture of ammonia and water vapors. The process involves feeding the vapor mixture into a condenser, then expanding it through a valve before separating it into a vapor stream and a liquid stream in a flash vessel. Key details provided include the process flow diagram, stream table calculations, and questions about determining stream properties like temperature and composition.

THEORY Process given A mixture of ammonia and water in the vapour phase is fed at 143.6 ,saturated at 1724 kpa

and containing 80 wt% ammonia is passed through a condenser at a flow rate of 10000 lbmol/hr. heat is removes at the rate of 5.8x Btu/hr(make an assumption for the pressure).

Its effluent is expended with an outlet pressure of the valve is 1034 kpa and fed into a flash vessel. Flash vessel temperature is 40.63 . Hint: 1. Use SRK Equation of state fluid package. 2. Mainly water at liquid stream of separator. In this separation process, each of the equipment has their own purposes and definitions. The equipment that involves are cooler, valve and separator.

Firstly, feed consist of ammonia and water in vapor phase is cooled in the condenser. Condenser is a device that condenses a substance from its gaseous state into liquid and thus reducing temperature. The other function of the condenser is to record and determine the amount of energy to cool down the stream.

Valve is used in this process as the pressure regulator or pressure controller. In this process the valve is used to lower the pressure of the stream.

Flash vessel is the main equipment for this process. This equipment works as a separator of vapor-liquid mixture and used to separate the mixture of ammonia and water.

All calculations are done using Aspen V7.2 based on SRK Equation of state fluid.

PROCEDURES 1.New blank icon is selected to start a new case. Ammonia and water is added as the component in the Component List View. 2. The process flow diagram is form consist of cooler, valve, and separator. 3. SRK Equation of State is selected in the specification tab under Method. 4.. Information that needed to be inserted in the process such as feed flow rate, pressure for certain equipments; mole fraction and duty of the equipment were entered in the equipment as in the question that is provided. 5.Stream table is generated by clicking stream tab under the result summary.

Picture 1 show the process of Separation of Ammonia and Water. The feed consist of Ammonia and water which is in vapor phase. The feed is then fed into a cooler to reduce the temperature of the feed. The stream(c-out) is then go into the valve to be expended and fed into a flash vessel.
