Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Course Category Course Name CS 314 Database Systems This course is intended for students to appreciate the value of databases and equip them with adequate skill needed to plan, analyze and design database system. With formal tools and foundation concepts, students will be equipped with a better understanding on how to build and eventually use database for various purposes. The course covers the basic theories behind databases, data model, and database analysis and design. The course will tackle different data models but will concentrate mainly on relational databases. This course also introduces the students to different concepts on conceptual design of databases using the concepts of Entity-Relationship (ER) model and normalization, relational model and database design, and database query languages. Introductory topics on object-oriented databases, transactions and transaction management, distributed databases, and data warehouses will be discussed for further studies on databases.
