PURPOSE This guide aims to describe all aspects concerning the installation of Geocomm 2.11.

Processing unit requiring services to the SERVER. Logical box of files. Physical unit suited to hold storage devices. Set of sequential data. Magnetic medium used for data storage. Processing unit providing resources and services to CLIENTS.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 3.1 INSTALLATION MODE Geocomm 2.11 Client Demo is installed by CD-ROM. PRELIMINARY TASKS Before proceeding to the installation, we suggest you to make a backup copy of the environment concerned and close all active tasks. Ensure your system matches the minimum hardware and software requirements indicated in unit 4. GENERATING AND INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE Please, follow these instructions to install correctly the software: Insert the CD into the appropriate CD-ROM drive. Click on Start of Windows and select Run.... Type [drive]:\Geocomm 2.1.1 Client Demo\SETUP.EXE, where [drive] is the letter which identifies the CD-ROM drive. Simply follow the instructions. Should a message appear, during the installation, once or repeatedly, saying that some files are impossible to write since they are shared by other applications, select "Ignore" and continue the installation. At the end of the installation, the Geocomm.ini file present in the Geocomm base directory, must be modified as follows: open the file by a text editor (e.g.: NOTEPAD) and edit parameters: SERVERNAME type in the name of the server (es.: SERVERNAME=GEOSERVER) DBNAME type in the name of the database (es.: DBNAME=GEOCOMM21) USERNAME type in the user name (es.: USERNAME=GEOCOMM) BASEPATH type in the temporary directory (es.: BASEPATH =C:\Temp)

INSTALLATION CHECK If the installation was successful and no error messages appeared, the following files will appear in the starting directory (default C:\Program Files\Geocomm): Geocomm.exe Geocomm.ini and the following 6 subdirectories: Layout, containing the following files: Standard.tb Gestione messaggi.tb Gestione gruppi.tb Browser.tb User.tb Explorer.tb Admin.tb Help, containing the file: Geocomm.chm Log, containing the following files: Error.Log NTService.Log Ntservice, containing the following files: Geocomm_pop3.exe Geocomm_smtp.exe StartNtSvc.bat SQLScript, containing the following files: sql_AllObj.sql Shapes\World, containing the following files: latlon.shx latlon.shp latlon.dbf country.shx country.shp country.dbf cities.shx cities.dbf cities.shp Db, containing the file: System.mdw

INSTALLING THE DATABASE For Geocomm CLIENT DEMO you do not need to generate any Database.

Please copy entire directory Europa (containing basic maps) from CD-Rom to C:\Program Files\Geocomm\Shapes fixed disk directory. 3.7. ACCESSING GEOCOMM SERVER GEOCOMM Server is accessible through Internet or by Windows Remote Access direct call.
