RECOGNISED BY THE MALAYSIAN GOVERNMENT ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS International candidates must posses an equivalent qualification of the Malaysian High School Certificate (STPM) or a Diploma recognized by the Malaysian Government. EQUIVALENT QUALIFICATION 1. A good pass in O levels/ its equivalent. 2. A pass in the A-levels with at least :- C Grade in three (3) subjects; 3. A Band 3 in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) or a TOEFL score of at least 550 or a score of 6 in the IELTS examination; AND has fulfilled special requirements for the program i.e. attaining the required grades in (sciences/arts) as specified for each UPM Bachelor programme. OR EQUIVALENT QUALIFICATION 1. A pass in the Higher School Certificate (HSC)/its equivalent with at least :- C+ grade in three (3) subjects or 65% in three (3) subjects in the Final Level of Secondary Education 2. A pass in the University Entrance Exam (for countries which seek such requirement for admission into universities); 3. A Band 3 in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) or a TOEFL score of at least 550 or a score of 6 in the IELTS examination AND has fulfilled special requirements for the program i.e. attaining the required grades in (sciences/arts) as specified for each UPM Bachelor programme. OR EQUIVALENT QUALIFICATION 1. A Diploma or its equivalent which is recognized by the Malaysian Government and the University Senate with a CGPA of at least 3.00 2. A Band 3 in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) or a TOEFL score of at least 550 or a score of 6 in the IELTS examination AND has fulfilled special requirements for the program i.e. attaining the required grades in (sciences/arts) as specified for each UPM Bachelor programme.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENT FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS A. DIRECT ADMISSION For direct admission, the applicant must have obtained one of the following:i. ii. iii. iv. 550 for the TOEFL Paper-based Test (Academic Version) Band 6.0 for IELTS (Academic Training) 79-80 for TOEFL Internet-based Test (Academic Version) 213 for TOEFL Computer-based Test (Academic Version).
The validity period for requirement should not be more than five (5) years. TOEFL ITP is not an acceptable alternative. B. PROVISIONAL ADMISSION A provisional admission is given to the following: An applicant who obtains below than:i. ii. 550 for the TOEFL Paper-based Test (Academic Version); or band 6.0 for IELTS (Academic Training)
C. EXEMPTION FROM ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENT i. An applicant who has undergone his/her secondary school in Malaysia shall not be subject to the English Language proficiency requirement. Application for exemption must be accompanied by supporting documents that have been certified by the relevant certificateissuing bodies. Applicant from the following non native English speaking countries. This exemption however may be revised from time to time without prior notice.

GUIDANCE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENT STATUS AS PROVISIONAL ADMISSION Note: The provisional admission candidates are known as Non-Graduating (NG) student. Certified Intensive English Programme (CIEP) 1. The Certified Intensive English Programme (CIEP) is ideal for university-bound students, professionals with a limited time for study and serious students who want to learn English quickly. Its certificate is accepted by many universities and colleges worldwide in place of TOEFL and IELTS for entry requirements. This fulltime course is structured for 30 hours of intensive English classes a week featuring 100 - 109 levels from beginner to advanced. a. An applicant who obtains below than:i. ii. or b. An applicant who doesnt have TOEFL or IELTS 2. Both of these criteria can apply and register CIEP with status Non-Graduating (NG) student. When an applicant has registered CIEP, you are not allowed to register or take any academic courses during the CIEP. Step 1 Please attend the CIEP briefing session (venue and date will be announced, please refer to UPM Academic Division). Step 2 To pre-registration for CIEP, please pay RM 2,750.00 to UPM Education & Training Sdn. Bhd. (UPMET) and fill up the application form for the Non550 for the TOEFL Paper-based Test (Academic Version); or band 6.0 for IELTS (Academic Training)

Step 3 Sit for Placement Test to know your proficiency English level. The result will determine your CIEP level. If you agree to continue with CIEP, you need to pay full amount based on your determined level to ELS Language Centre. Note: The full CIEP cost that you need to pay based on the proficiency English level from the placement test result. For example, if your placement test result is level 103 you need to pay full amount of RM2,050.00 X 5 levels (level 103 level 107) = RM10,250.00

The ELS receipt is important for UPMET to process your Non-Graduating status and matric card as UPM student.

Note: You need to pass every level until level 107 before you can take and register academic course in UPM. Each level will take a month to be completed. If you had pass level 107, you may register academic courses and you are required to complete another two (2) levels: level 108 and level 109 in completing your English proficiency programme. These two (2) levels course will be conducted during semester break. Alternatively, student can choose to prepare and sit for IELTS/TOEFLS after level 106 of CIEP. On obtaining the required scores/Band, they can be allowed for full registration of their University programme/course.

A candidate who is found to have any of the diseases/disorders that prohibits registration during a verification process by UPMs Health Centre will be required to return to his/her home country at his/her own expense.
