Five chamber directional control valves model 5-WE10 are direct operated spool valves with the option to control the shift time of the spool. They control the start, stop and direction of fluid flow. Two spring chambers (4) are connected by a 5th chamber, (5) in the valve housing (1). As the spool shifts, a fluid volume is displaced from one spring chamber (4) to the other through this passage. If the area of this connecting bore is throttled, via adjustment (7), spool movement slows, thus increasing the shift time. The tank ports are not connected to the spring chambers. This enables the valve to shift smoothly since flow forces and pressure peaks do not affect areas (4). In the de-energized condition, spool (3) is held by return spring(s) (4) in the center, or a spring offset, position (except detented spools).
The force of solenoid (2) pushes against the spool (3). The spool is shifted from an original position to a desired end position. When solenoid (2) is de-energized, control spool (3) returns to the original position by spring(s) (4). In order to assure correct function, the solenoid armature and chamber (5) must be filled with fluid. A manual override (6) is provided for operation of the valve without electrical power. Upon commissioning, filtered fluid can be externally added, via adjustment (7), to speed the filling of chamber (5) and armatures. Adjustable spool shifting time (DC Solenoids only) The shifting time of the valve can be altered by installing a fixed or variable orifice (7) with adjustable orifice, Model 5-.WE 10../../C.../5 with fixed orifice, Model 5-.WE 10 ../../A.../5

Model 5- .WE 10../OC.. (only possible with spools A,C and D) This model is a 2-position directional valve with two solenoids and no detents. The spool position is determined by which solenoid is energized. The spool position can only be maintained by continuously energizing one of the two solenoids.

Model 5-.WE 10../OFC.. (detented spool valve - for pulse operation; only possible with spools A, C and D) This model directional valve has a detent assembly and 2 solenoids. The spool is held in position by the detent so continuous energization of the solenoid is not necessary. Pulsing the solenoid (approximately 100 ms) is all that is required to shift the valve, and maintain a shifted position.

With Detent Model 5-.WE 10 E 3X/OFC
Orifice inserts Model 5-.WE 10../B../5 To limit maximum flow, orifice inserts are optionally available. Primarily, the orifice insert is intended to prevent flow rates in excess of the maximum performance data (page 5 & 6) of the valve. For this purpose the insert is installed in the P port however, will fit any of the ports, allowing for design flexibility.

For the connection to the AC supply, a DC solenoid must be used, which is controlled by a rectifier (see table on page 4). For individual connection, a large plug-in connector with integrated rectifier may be used (separate order, see page 4). See page 4 for voltage-frequency relationships.

Performance Limits: measured at = 190 SUS (41 mm2/s) and t = 122 F (50 C)
Because of silting, the shifting function of the valves is dependent upon filtration. To obtain the maximum flow values shown, full filtration of 25 m is recommended. The flow forces acting within the valve also influence performance. In 4-way valves, the data provided is for applications with 2 directions of flow (flow from P to A and an equal, simultaneous return from B to T), (see table). If only one direction of flow is required, for example, when a 4-way valve has one port plugged, or with unbalanced flows from large rod cylinders, the permissible flow in critical cases can be considerably lower. The A or B spool (3-way) can be used as an approximation of the limited flow performance.
Performance limits measured with solenoids at operating temperature, 10 % undervoltage and without tank port pressure. Valves with DC solenoids
