Chapter I Introduction We are on the internet using a web browser, and many of us spend a lot of time, maybe 80%

in the internet for emails, chatting, reading news, watching videos, playing games, or buying things that makes a browser the most important program on our computer and we almost forgot, that there are some other programs that are being disregarded or ignored by us. Since Internet has been born recently, specialists developed a lot of browsers. Some bear up to the new challenges and others disappear. Mosaic is the first browser which had a worldwide development and led to an exponential use of the Internet. After that we have the Netscape that has been created when Marc Andreessen (one of the creator of Mosaic) leave National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) and started his own company. Netscape accounted90% of web use and as a reaction to the denomination and see it as new financial treasure, Microsoft then released Internet Explorer 1, and then Internet Explorer 2, 3, 4, up to 9. In June2002, Mozilla 1 was released and then Firefox 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, and 6. Next to that were the Opera, the Safari, and now we have the Google Chrome. Initially Google denies their interest for creating a new browser but on the second day of September, 2008, Google Chrome was launched in 43 languages and it became a huge success gaining continuously more users. Google Chrome 2 comes with stability and speed, the next version launched on the 15th day of September 2009 and it has improved its speed with almost 25%, it is considered as a very good move for Google to start the implementation of HTML5. Probably you can guess that the 4th and 5th versions bring more speed and stability together with deep implementations of the new standards of HTML5 and CSS3. Google Chrome is now known as the web browser thats really fast in accessing the internet. Its reliable, more secure and really fast. Internet is so important that when we open our computer, we want go to as fast as possible to the internet browser to check updates or anything. But before we go to the browser our computer will first boot-up and now the question is when we boot-up our computer, how long does it take for us to access the internet? Actually, even the fastest computer will still takes 45 seconds to boot-up. When our computer is booting-up, there

are lists of things to do, stuffs that you might dont care about and that makes your program to load slowly. All of those stuffs that may take your time are the operating system. Operating system is a set of computer programs that manage the hardware and software resources of a computer system. Operating system plays a very important role on computer system; it moderates the relationship between the computer and its peripherals, helps in the management of files copying, deleting, moving of files from one storage location to the other, encourages the memory for its efficient usage and thus adding the speed of the computer, manages the activities of the processor in terms of job execution according to the priority of arrival of jobs, informs the user of nay hardware or software error, and lastly, it makes communication between the computer and the user or the operator possible. To get to the operating system, a computer must first boot from the Basic Input Output System (BIOS). The BIOS performs a number of tasks when a computer is started. It initializes the microprocessor to initialize and test the hardwares to start the operating system. Starting a computer is not a simple task. It's a methodical process that is performed every time power is applied to computer. What if all I want when I open my computer or laptop is I am automatically on the internet in seconds? What if the browser is my operating system? No more dealing in managing programs, nagging updates, no more lost files, confusing settings, or blue screens of doom, and just a browser where I can still listen to music, watch movies, interact with friends, create documents, play games, write emails, and all other things that can be done with just the internet. Is it possible? Well, with the Google Chrome operating system, it is!

1.1 Rationale of the Research The reason why the researcher conducts this research about the Google Chrome Operating System, aside from its new in the market, is because many of us were not aware with this new operating system yet. This research wants to give the readers an idea about this new operating system. The researcher wants them to know its advantages from the other operating system, its edge, if it is effective and efficient to use, if it is reliable, if the files I have in it are secured, and if it is easy to use. The researcher also wants the reader to know its disadvantages and what possible problems that a user would encounter in making Google Chrome OS his/her computer new operating system.

1.2 Statement of the Problem Statement of the problem is a description of a difficulty or lack that needs to be solved or at least researched to see whether a solution can be found. Since Google Chrome operating system is just new in the market, many of us were not aware of this yet and it is expected that many questions were formed on our mind that needed an answers. This research aims to specifically answer the following questions: a. What is Google Chrome operating system? b. Whats the history behind this new operating system? c. What makes it stand-out with the other operating system? d. What are the disadvantages in this operating system? e. Is it free? How can I change my operating system into Google Chrome OS? f. Who are the advised group of people whom may use this operating system?

1.3 Objectives The purpose of this research is to inform everyone of what Google Chrome operating system is. Effectivity and reliability will be also one of the main objectives of this study. At the end of this research, readers will be able to: a. Define what Google Chrome operating system is? b. Define what Google Chrome is. c. Know the difference between Google Chrome OS, Chromium OS, and Chromebook. d. Know its advantages from the other operating systems. e. Know its disadvantages from the other operating systems.

1.4 Method The researcher will be using internet research for this study. Since our topic, Google Chrome operating system is just new in the market, internet will be our major source in gathering information. This method will definitely help the researcher to arrive at a good conclusion.

1.5 Structure of the Research The researcher will be using reliable web sources and effective methods to come up with great and reliable research. The researcher will be open to some comments and evaluation from professional people when it comes in technical writing to help her research paper be objective and understandable. The researcher is open to some correction that will bring improvement and make this research a good one.
