Rosa Rosal the actress and philanthropist Achievements: -Riders Digest Most Trusted -Rosa Rosal has been

serving as a humanitarian for 60 years with the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC). -FAMAS Best Actress on 1955 -In 1999, she was awarded Ramon Magsaysay Award for Public Service Story: -At the age of 17 years old, Rosal was already on her way to stardom. Two years before she was spotted by a film producer on her way back from her job as a secretary in an x-ray centre. After a succession of films she was on her way to becoming a well-known actress. While people from the same industry as her spent most of their free time lavishing in parties, Rosal spend her time helping the less fortunate. -Her world changed to a different course when she was visiting patients in Philippines General Hospital. There she saw a boy who fell into a five-storey building and is in a coma laying lifeless in a hospital bed. When she returned three days later she was told that the boys condition changes and that now he needs to be seen by a neurologist. Rosal arranged for a neurologist to see the boy where it was declared that the boy needs blood transfusion. She tried calling on some acquaintances who mentioned that there is a limired supply of blood on PNRC. As soon as the transfusion started, Rosal was able to witness the life coming back into the boys body as he opened his eyes and the tears of joy from his mothers eyes. -The event stuck in Rosals mind for something so simple was able to save the life of someones life. She decided that everyone should have access to blood when they need it. On 1950 she joined PNRC as a volunteer which is the start of her life long campaign for voluntary blood donation and access to blood for transfusion for every Filipinos. -Her career in Showbiz continued to soar and she was soon dubbed as the femme fatale of Philippine Cinema. With her growing popularity with the people she used her name in order to advertise the humanitarian efforts she campaigns. Along with her work in the blood centre she also created the centre for woman in crisis and helped find families for unwanted children where they will be given equal opportunities of good education. -She has been part of many historical moments where she performed for Filipino troops who were deployed to fight the Korean War and stayed on duty with during the infamous 1986 EDSA Revolution in Manila.

-Rosals greatest achievement is the launching of the Operation Blood Brother, at the end of Vietnam War. She would go rounds in hospitals in Manila seeing if there are people who are in need of blood. On her free time she would even travel a two-hour drive from Manila to Clark Air Base where she would use her perform for the Americans and charm them into donating blood. -In 1955 she won FAMAS Best Actress. The gold statue awarded in FAMAS is now modeled after her. -In 1999, Rosals humanitarian work was recognized where she was given the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Public Service which is an equivalent for Asias Nobel Peace Prize. A award of the sum of $50,000 which she used to send 1000 poor deserving students to college. -She considered the PNRC blood centre her greatest work. She is now responsible for the establishment of 62 blood centre all over Philippines and where Filipinos can get access to blood transfusion. She still continues to campaign for blood donation and fund raising so that the centres can be updated to the changing technology.
