Dear Student,
ITEM – 1: Examination Rules: The following examination rules are framed by the University for students of M.Tech.
(Computer Science & Engineering) course under distance mode.
The minimum duration of the course is TWO Academic years and the Candidate is allowed to complete the course
within FIVE years for the purpose of award of class and another TWO more years on payment of prescribed fee for
the completion of the course or for the improvement of percentage without affecting the class already secured.
Marks qualifying for a pass:
i. Internal Assessment for theory papers: The CDE will conduct TWO midterm examinations for each theory
paper for 25 marks each and the better of the TWO will be taken as marks awarded for internal assessment
component.
A candidate will be declared to have passed the internal assessment for theory papers if he/she obtained not
less than 50% of internal assessment for each theory paper (i.e, 13 out of 25).
Candidates who could not secure the minimum marks in internal assessment of theory papers are permitted to
appear for supplementary examination along with the next batch students on payment of prescribed fee till the
maximum time allowed for the completion of the course.
ii. Internal Assessment for Practical papers: The internal assessment component of 25 marks will be distributed
as follows:
a. 10 marks for day to day work and record.
b. 10 marks for practical examination conducted by the internal examiner.
c. 5 marks for Vivavoce conducted by the qualified resource person engaged in teaching theory papers.
A candidate will be declared to have passed the internal assessment for Practical papers if he/she obtained not
less than 50% of internal assessment for each practical paper (i.e, 13 out of 25).
Candidates who could not secure the minimum marks in internal assessment of practical papers are permitted
to appear for supplementary examination along with the next batch students on payment of prescribed fee till
the maximum time allowed for the completion of the course.
iii. External Examination for theory papers:
A candidate shall be declared to have passed the external examination for theory papers if he/she obtained not
less than 40% of marks in external examination for each theory paper (i.e, 30 out of 75) subject to the condition
of securing 50% of aggregate marks of total theory and practical marks(internal and external put together) in
each year.
Candidates who could not secure the required minimum marks for pass in theory papers are permitted to
appear for supplementary examination in theory paper along with the next batch students on payment of
prescribed fee. However, such candidates, must obtain 40% marks in external examination for each theory
paper and further, must secure 50% of the total marks for each theory paper (including internal and external
marks) in the supplementary examinations i.e., (50 out of 100).
iv. External Examination for Practical papers:
University shall appoint one external examiner for the conduct of practical examinations and the internal
teachers will assist the examiner appointed by the University. The external examination for 50 marks will be
distributed as follows:
a. 20 marks for procedure, algorithm and analysis.
b. 20 marks for coding and executing of program.
c. 10 marks for Vivavoce.
A candidate shall be declared to have passed the external examination for Practical papers if he/she obtained
not less than 50% of external examination marks for each practical paper (i.e, 25 out of 50).
Candidates who could not secure the minimum marks in external examination for practical papers are permitted
to appear for supplementary examination along with the next batch students on payment of prescribed fee till
the maximum time allowed for the completion of the course.
v. Classification of successful candidates: A candidate who becomes eligible for the award of the degree shall
be placed in the following three divisions based on the combined aggregate of marks secured by him or her in
the theory and practical subjects of the entire PG programme.
First Class with Distinction * : 70% or more
First Class : Below 70% but not less than 60%
Second Class : Below 60% but not less than 50%
* Candidates who have passed the examinations in the first attempt, along with the batch in which they are
admitted will be eligible for the award of first class with distinction.
vi. Project and VivaVoce examination:

The project work will be evaluated based on the project report and vivavoce examination by an external
examiner appointed by the University and the internal faculty member shall assist the external examiner
appointed by the University.
The candidate must secure a minimum of 50% of marks prescribed for project work and for Vivavoce
examination (i.e, 50 out of 100 for project work and 50 out of 100 for vivavoce)
ITEM2:
Candidates who could not secure the minimum marks in internal assessment of theory papers are permitted to appear
for supplementary examination along with the next batch of students (i.e., AY 200809) on payment of Rs.40/ per
each paper.
