THE SIMPLE PAST TENSE 1. To show an action that has happened in the past at a definite time.

2. Most past tense verbs end in ed. They are regular verbs. Example: play played jumped walked

THE PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE To describe two actions which were happening at the same time in the past. Examples: We were cooking when she dropped in. The boys were arguing as he walked in. He was jogging when the dog attacked him. The police was taking down the details when I arrived.
