Media Questionnaire Results

The survey results show that most participants were unemployed students aged 16, female, and interested in articles about discounts/vouchers, local events/music, and job opportunities. Popular hobbies included watching comedy, drama and fantasy TV shows as well as following friends on Facebook, Tumblr and Twitter. However, the results may not accurately represent the local college's demographic due to surveying students from different schools and an uneven gender/age distribution.

From my research I can see that a large majority of my participants were unemployed (67%) and so articles of job offers would be a good idea to include(11% wanted this article). This is also shown in that the most popular article for me to include was discounts and vouchers (16%). I can also see that a large majority of my audience buy music magazines (27%), which corresponds with the large amount of people wanting to see local events (14%) and music reviews (8%). A large number of people also bought fashion magazines (20%) which is reflected in that it was suggested I include a fashion article (13%). There is a contrast in two of the pie charts though many people would like articles on places to go (8%), local events (14%), and are interested in local news (80%), very few people said they would like to hear news on local clubs and groups as it came out as one of the least popular articles (5%). This

does however correspond with the number of people who bought a sporting magazine however, as none said it was their most commonly purchased magazine genre. Humor was one of the most popular TV genres watched (27%) this is also reflect in that 20% of people would like to see some form of humor in the magazine. Many people also said that they liked watching drama and fantasy television (they also both received 27%), meaning that if I included TV reviews these would be good genres to include. Facebook (46%), followed by tumblr (27%) and then Twitter (20%), were the most used social network sites, so it would be a good idea to include links to Facebook, tumblr and Twitter. However, my results may not be entirely reliable as I asked students from different colleges, rather than City College this may make results such as the interest in local news unreliable as their college would be in a different area. It also may be affected by the fact I did not ask a fair number of males and females (60% were female and only 40% were male), showing that the results may lean towards a female audience. I also did not ask an equal number of people of each age (80% were 16 and only 20% were 17), meaning that it could lean towards a younger age range.
