Warehousing and Distribution
8 billion dollars of freight under management Instead of separating forward and reverse logistics functions in different locations, Ryders strategy is to co-locate repair and refurbishment with forward distribution into a single facility. They offer everything from
Logistics
Transportation
Warehousing
Functional Testing
Packaging
In addition to this, Ryder has a front-end web portal for customer return initiation, authorization and visibility to each step in the process to the serial number/SKU level. Benefits of co-location as per Ryder Co-locating returns processing, repair, refurbishment, parts recovery and packaging in one facility delivers speed to shelf, reduces investment in inventory. Also it gives the customer all functions associated with managing returns through one provider, making the customers reverse logistics more convenient. It ensures fewer hand-offs, warehouses and touches, improved product visibility and control and thus a better customer experience

DB Schenker Logistics Resale DB Schenker maximizes customers assets either through remarketing the products technically in order apart from a few cosmetic scratches which are through secondary channels such as the Internet or by redistributing them to outlet stores. Technical screening and testing Does the product have a return authorization number? Is it still within warranty? These questions are claried during the initial check before the product undergoes technical tests. More than 50 % of returned products are found to be fault-free. Spare part harvesting It is not always economically feasible to repair a product. However, this does not mean that the product has lost its value. Good working components will be removed and used to refurbish other products, or alternatively, they will be used for spare parts fulllment in the aftermarket. Recycling and scrapping Raw materials are precious. Recycling is part of DB Schenkers green agenda, and environmental responsibility is a key component of an eective strategy. Therefore, all defective products or components that cannot be reused in any other way are recycled and returned to the manufacturing process in compliance with environmental law.
IT (integrated) All processes within the warehouse are supported by a reliable and secure IT system. It controls and manages disposition decisions and tracks the turn-around time of the reverse cycle from pickup at the customer to arrival of the product in our returns center as well as the return delivery to the customer. Usage of IT C.H. Robinson A significant element in the company's globalization is its industry-leading online reporting capabilities, available through Navisphere online. This technology gives customers complete visibility to all C.H. Robinson shipments, domestically and globally, across all services. Customers can access their global shipping data and create reports.
Another significant element of the company's global capabilities is a proprietary technology that provides Managed TMS. Serviced by a division of C.H. Robinson called TMC, this technology gives customers the resources, visibility and information needed to lower costs, raise efficiencies and elevate overall management to a more strategic level. The technology provides a single view of shipments, business intelligence and freight payments throughout the integrated international supply chain, which can be shared across carriers, factories, and warehouses throughout the world. In 2011, the company also launched an application called CHRWTrucks Mobile. This application allows a motor carrier to enter pick up information, check calls, and access delivery information on a smartphone or other device. Additionally, carriers can post empty equipment locations where C.H. Robinson employees can look for load matches to help fill empty trucks and reduce empty miles.

Through the use of ERP - and, as a result, a single data model for all company-relevant information - significant amounts of internal integration can be achieved. Advanced planning systems (APS) represent an extension of the ERP in terms of relationships with other companies. These systems represent complex logistics structures and processes in a supply chain , and facilitate fast responses and optimal inventories and capacities. For this purpose, APS uses data managed by ERP systems. In the automotive industry, for instance, the supply chain can be mapped all the way to the presuppliers of a system supplier. As a result, critical paths can be recognized and supply squeezes prevented at an early point in time.
The expanded functions of a WMS include batch/serial number management, management of empty bottles and returns. Additional modules offer connections to self-contained software packages like RFID software or pick-by-voice /pick-by-light systems. One other important function is support that is provided to the management of linked storage facilities. As a result, the inventories of several warehouses can be balanced with one another or particularly high-quality items can be distributed only upon notification from centrally located warehouses. Similar to the concept of the ERP , function-adding modules are installed only if the company actually needs the particular service.
