Topic 1: ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY Assistive technology has reached a level of sophistication and affordability that makes it available to a wide range of people with disabilities. In an era of information technology, both individuals with disabilities and their families are becoming more insistent on assistive technology as an option for increasing independence. You are required to produce a report which should discuss: What is meant by the term Assistive Technology? What are the challenges facing the adoption of Assistive Technology on a larger-scale? Evaluate the software that supports assistive technologies and their effectiveness in supporting the disabled community. This should address both system and application software. Justify whether the hardware implemented addresses all areas of disabilities. How is assistive technology being supported within the educational environment? How are the current technology trends embracing and supporting Assistive Technology?

TOPIC 2: HOME NETWORKING Communications networks are becoming more critical to homeowners. Householders are increasingly adopting home networking as a solution to the demands created by the presence of multiple computers, devices within a household, and the desire to access the Internet. You are required to produce a report on home networking which should discuss: What is meant by the term home networking? Evaluate the different methods of creating a home network. Identify the different devices and components that are utilized in a home network Assess the benefits and challenges that can emerge from setting up a home network. Compare the devices and components used in home networking versus those used in the corporate world. Page 1 of 3

2 Evaluate the future of home networking amidst the technology trends.

SUBMISSION: The project should be done in your tutorial groups with NO MORE than four (4) students per group. Include a breakdown of the tasks carried out by each member of the group. Your submission must utilize the APA (American Psychological Association)* documentation format of reporting and should outline the tasks carried out by each member of the group. Students will be graded for their contribution to the research. All reports MUST show the name, ID number, and major/school/dept of each student as well as the tutors name and the group code. (* APA Formatting will be explained in your lab sessions. You may also conduct further research using an Internet search engine.) MARKING CRITERIA CRITERIA APA Format (page numbering, title page, paragraph indentation, line spacing, use of space, references, citation of sources, labeling of charts, graphs etc.) Vocabulary &Writing Mechanics (grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, sentence structure etc.) Organization (table of contents, well-constructed paragraphs, logical flow of information, appropriate conclusions drawn etc.) Content (addresses all topics, accurate, adequate and relevant information, examples, cases, inclusion of a variety of reputable references to indicate substantial research - journal articles, papers, books etc. etc.) Analysis (well-supported arguments, proper interpretation and communication of issues supported by evidence, examination of issues from various perspectives, use of not just factual information but integration of facts with own ideas etc.) PowerPoint Presentation Organisation & Delivery (eye contact, posture, 5 clear pronunciation, use of time, use of proper language etc.) Effective Use of Visual Aids (readability, legibility 5 of text, placement and sizing of graphics etc.) Content (adequate coverage of material, ability to 5 answer questions on subject etc.) TOTAL 100 MARKS 15
