SyedUnfollow Follow Syed Syed Tibu I am not sure if this the right word but I guess you are taking about Island Opertaion in power plant. If a Main Circuit breaker to the grid is open due to df/dt relay generator still remains connected to the auxliary transformer by supplying power to the station auxiliaries is considered as island operation. This helps to avoid the tripping of the power plant and/or desalination plant due to any failure/fault of the grid/transmission system. 21 days ago Unlike Like

EdnoldUnfollow Follow Ednold Ednold David Grid Power use for Start-up once the Turbine Generator synchronized to grid power Main Circuit Breaker from grid can be open by Auto/Man at minimum load of Turbine Generator, this is called Island Operation when Main Circuit Breaker of the grid power opened. Island Operation Protection are the auxiliaries equipment like, cooling water pums, boiler feed pumps, lube oil system, condenser extraction pumps for Steam Turbine Generator. 21 days ago Unlike Like
UdhayakumarUnfollow Follow Udhayakumar Udhayakumar Venkataraman When ever the power Generating units of a station experience black out / load throw off, the machine stays feeding through the unit auxiliary transformers the house load and may be mentioned as House load operation / islanding operation. In certain stations, radial operation with specific grid will be initiated and few units will be islanding operation when ever grid touching lower side frequency. good for immediate syn with grid on normalization etc.

AlanUnfollow Follow Alan Alan Manza Island Operation in a Power Generating Plant is a condition wherein the generating system is isolated from the grid and continue to run and connected to its station auxiliary loads. If a period of Island Operation Mode is planned, it is relatively simple to ensure that the site demand is set at a level that does not exceed the net power output of the power generating plant. Once this is established, the connection to the local area system is disconnected by opening the circuit breaker(s). The change scenario from Parallel to Island operation Mode may occur instantaneously when the local area supply system suffers an outage. In this situation, it should be possible for the power generating plant to continue supplying the site load without any interruption. This is usually achieved by using load monitoring and control equipment, which can automatically disconnect selected parts of the site load. If this load limitation cannot be achieved, the power generating
plant will usually trip or shutdown when there is a failure in the local area system with which it is operating in parallel. The site will then lose all power supplies. 20 days ago Unlike Like

ManmohanUnfollow Follow Manmohan Manmohan Sobti In the case of Captive Power Plants, islanding operation is chosen to enhance the production when the parallel operation is at low frequency. In this case, islanding allows to maintain the desired frequency of 50 Hts or higher with which pump-motor sets are able to give higher output and thus increase overall production. All have very well explained islanding operation. In the case of coal fired power plants, islanding or operation on house load is usually limited to max 1 hour as the steam turbine should not be run at very load which is usually the case in such a situation. 19 days ago Unlike Like

PrakashUnfollow Follow Prakash Prakash Surana Operating your unit on house load on disconnection from the grid is Islanding operation. This arises when the protection relays sense the disturbances in the grid and trips the grid connecting breaker to protect your unit from tripping and causing blackout conditions due to external faults / disturbances. The advantage of this automatic operation with the help of sensitive protection relays is that you save complete blackout conditions and you are able to re-load your plant to full capacity as soon as the conditions causing islanding are normalised and grid is stable. These disturbances in the grid are generally of short durations caused by some feeder line fault or overloading/underloading conditions and therefore islanding operation helps in restoration of full load at the shortest possible time. 18 days ago Unlike
