Project: Pillowcase with Checkerboard Band Materials Assemble Band Assemble Pillowcase
For one pillowcase: 14 yard print No.1 (blocks) 3 8 yard print No.2 (blocks) 7 8 yard print No.3 (pillowcase body) Finished pillowcase: 30 20" (fits a standard-size bed pillow) Quantities are for 44/45"-wide, 100% cotton fabrics. Measurements include 1 4" seam allowances for piecing blocks and 1 2" seam allowances for pillowcase construction. Sew with right sides together unless otherwise stated.
Use a 1 2" seam allowance for the following steps, except where noted.
1. Fold print No.3253441"
together two print No. 13" squares and two print No. 23" squares in pairs. Press seams in opposite directions. Join pairs to make a Four-Patch unit. Press seam in one direction. The unit should be 51 2" square including seam allowances. Repeat to make eight Four-Patch units total.
2. Join Four-Patch units to make
rectangle in half to form a 2534 201 2" rectangle. Sew together long edges and one pair of short edges to make pillowcase body. Turn right side out and press flat.

Cut Fabrics
a checkerboard strip (Band Assembly Diagram). The checkerboard strip should be 51 2401 2" including seam allowances.
3. Referring to Band Assembly
pillowcase band over pillowcase body with Four-Patch units facing pillowcase body; pin. Using a 1 4" seam allowance, sew together through all layers (Diagram2).
3. Press pillowcase band open,
Million Pillowcase Challenge
Diagram, sew print No.251 2401 2" strip to one long edge of checkerboard strip.
4. Join short ends of Step 3 unit
pressing CMR seams 3765341 toward MID 3725384 Pillowcase 4 with hourglass 1 block pillowcase body. Topstitch 8" band Diagram 2 C. Neubauer 9-15-09 from band edge on pillowcase 100526205 body to secure seam allowances and complete pillowcase (Diagram3).
