INTRODUCTION This lesson is designed following the most common form of course book for children: - Language structures are introduced first. - Lexical items follow to supply students with material to talk. - Practice The lesson plan, as most of its kind for children, is designed in the ESA approach, which takes students from the most controlled practice to the freer one. It would follow the following steps: 1. Engage: Make students interested in the topic of the lesson. 2. Study: Supply students with language materials: - Teach language materials - Controlled practice - Less controlled practice (recognition) 3. Activate: Freer practice (speaking) LESSON PLAN AND EXPLANATIONS 1. Activity 1: Engage (Warm-up) (10 minutes) - T divides Ss intro groups of five or six and delivers group boards. - T tells Ss that he is going to show them some pictures about the weather. While watching, they do not write anything. - After T has finished showing the pictures, Ss draw what they have seen. This activity will introduce the topic of the lesson, and at the same time make students interested in the topic. 2. Activity 2: Study (Teaching language materials) (20 minutes) - T shows Ss the pictures of different weather patterns, at the same time pronounces the words. - Ss repeat. - T sticks the pictures under the words which have been written on the board. N.B. This would be repeated several times from class repetition to individual. - T points at the picture in the lesson and reads dialog. - Ss repeat. - T asks some pairs of students read the dialog. This activity is a very controlled one which makes students familiar with the language materials. 3. Activity 3: Study (Controlled practice) (10 minutes) - T shows the pictures one by one, reading Its ________. => Ss read the words. N.B. This would be repeated several times from class repetition to individual. This activity is to make students remember the words for the next step. 4. Activity 4: Study (Controlled practice) (15 minutes) - T reads Hows the weather? and asks Ss to repeat. - T asks Ss to answer the question Hows the weather? and shows the pictures as the answers.
N.B. This would be repeated several times from class repetition to individual. This activity helps students to learn the question and answer structure orally. 5. Activity 5: Study (Less controlled practice Recognition) (10 minutes) - Ss will work in groups in this activity. - T sticks the pictures of weather patterns on the board. - T tells Ss that he is going to show them some activities in different weather. (The pictures are marked 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5). - Ss write on the group boards the numbers. This activity makes students fully understand the weather patterns by showing them the activities. 6. Activity 6: Activate (Freer practice)
