Here Is A Mnemonic To Always Remember The Effect of Damage To Broca's Area and Wernick's Area. - Broca: Your Speech Machinery Is Broken

Aphasia is a disorder that results from damage to areas of the brain responsible for language such as Broca's area and Wernicke's area, located in the frontal and temporal lobes respectively. Damage to Broca's area causes slow, difficult speech while articulation remains intact, whereas damage to Wernicke's area allows for intact articulation but causes nonsense speech. Common causes of aphasia include stroke, head injuries, brain tumors, and infections.

Aphasia Partial or total loss of the ability to communicate verbally Aphasia is a disorder that results from damaging the

e areas of the brain responsible for language. Brocas area is located in the lower portion of the frontal lobe. Wernickes area is located in the temporal lobe, posterior to the primary auditory cortex. For most of the people these areas are on the left hemisphere. Here is a mnemonic to always remember the effect of damage to Broca's area and Wernick's area. -Broca: your speech machinery is Broken. People with damaged Brocas area want to speak, but articulation(the act of vocal expression) doesn't work, and it is very slow. -Wer-nick": "were" and "nick" are both words of English language, but together they are nonsensical. People with damaged Wernicks area have good articulation, but are saying words that don't make sense together. Causes: - Stroke (blood is unable to reach a part of the brain. Brain cells die when they do not receive their normal supply of blood which carries oxygen and nutrients) - Severe blows to the head - Brain tumors - Brain infections Please take a few seconds & signup to our site: http://signup.MeddyBear.Net/ - Emma Ligia
