Grading Policy Handout
Grading Policy Handout
At the end of the semester you will take an End of Course Test (EOCT) in Economics and a Semester Exam in US Government. It counts 20% of your semester average. Your semester average is calculated using your 1st/3rd 9-Weeks average, your 2nd/4th 9-Weeks average, and your score on the EOCT or Semester Exam. These are weighted 40%, 40%, and 20% respectively. Below is a further explanation of the four categories that make up your 9Weeks average.
CLASSWORK continue:
o VOCABULARY: You will be assigned terms from each chapter we cover. You
will be given plenty of class time to define them. It is up to you to use this time wisely. Terms are not posted on the day they are due (which is the day of the vocabulary quiz). Vocabulary should be complete before you come to class that day. In order to be counted as on time, terms should be turned in when I take them up - BEFORE I pass out the quiz.
QUIZZES (10%) You will have a vocabulary quiz every chapter. Remember, words
are due the day of the quiz. You will also have other types of quizzes.
NOTEBOOK (10%) Your notebook must be a 3-ring binder. I will take it up and
check it at the end of each 9-Weeks. Everything we do goes in your notebook. All items in your notebook should be your own work, complete, handwritten, labeled correctly, in the correct section, and within the 3-rings of the binder or it will not be counted in the notebook check. o ORGANIZING YOUR NOTEBOOK is easy but it must be done according to this handout. Your notebook is divided into sections (in most cases chapters). Sections should be separated with a labeled divider. You can use a piece of paper as long as it is noticeable. o HANDOUTS: The first section is the HANDOUTS section. These are things like the sheet you are reading now. Most will say Keep this in the HANDOUTS section of your notebook. Items in this section should be kept for the entire semester. You do not need a divider at the beginning of the HANDOUTS section. o NEXT - THE CHAPTERS: Chapters should be in the order of how we do them in class. We will start with Chapter 1, so after the HANDOUTS section there should be a divider labeled CHAPTER 1. Everything we do from Chapter 1 goes in this section. It is up to you how items are organized within a chapter section as long as they are from that section. After Chapter 1 we will go to Chapter 2. Between these sections there should be a divider labeled CHAPTER 2. This section (along with all others) should follow the same format as Chapter 1. o You will lose points or receive a 0 if your notebook is too disorganized or too messy. Late notebooks lose 50 points per day. If you are absent on the day I take up notebooks, your notebook is due on the day you get back.
EXTRA CREDIT I use extra credit as a tool to reinforce content from a chapter
and to improve your overall performance on a test. You can receive 5 points extra credit on a test (on every test) by writing down 25 facts (complete sentence or question form) pertaining to that chapter. They will be taken up on test day, prior to passing out the test. They will not be accepted after you have taken the test. No other extra credit will be offered.
