    PGP Admissions Policy and Procedure for 2013 2014 Academic Year The following note describes the procedure used for short listing and further selection of students for the 2013 batch. Stage 1: Generation of merit list for WAT & PI: 1. All students with a CAT 2012 score of at least minimum cut-off score mentioned in Table 1 below will form the initial pool.     * The cut-offs of those called for Stage 2 could be much higher.

    2. From the students in the initial pool a short-list of students will be prepared based on an Index Score that is a weighted average of CAT score, performance in SSC, HSC and in Graduation with weights of 50%, 15%, 15%, 15% respectively and 5% for gender diversity. The Stage 1 Index Score calculation details are given below: a. CAT Index Score: IIMK uses a linear scale to map the overall CAT score to a scale of 50. The highest possible score of all applicants to IIMK is mapped against 50 and the respective overall CAT score of each student is converted to the index score by dividing with the maximum score possible and multiplying by 50. b. SSC Index Score: The academic performance is taken as the percentage of marks reported by the students and will be standardized across the boards as well as categories (as per GoI norms) using the past data (at least five years data) available with IIMK. Z-score for a particular student i is calculated as follows:

    Where Xi= score of i student being evaluated, Bi = population mean estimate of the students belonging to SSC board (in a given category) from which i student belongs, whereas Bi is standard deviation estimate of the students belonging to SSC board (in a given category) from which i student belongs. If the Z-score of a student is less than or equal to zero i.e. below the average of students in the specific board, then these students will be assigned the minimum possible score i.e. zero. If it is greater than or equal to 2 then the student is given the highest possible score of 15. If the Z score of student is in range of 0-2 the students index score is assigned using a linear transformation between the limits of 0 and 15. c. HSC Index Score: The process of computing the HSC index score remain the same as for the SSC index score with an addition that the mean and standard deviation for a 1

    given board across various HSC disciplines like arts and humanities, commerce, science and others have been taken into account. Separate and were estimated and used in the computation of Z scores as outlined above. d. Graduation Index Score: For those who completed their Bachelors degree the percentage marks reported in their marks/grade sheet will be considered and for those who have not completed their Bachelors percentage is taken based on the marks available. Each students graduation marks are mapped on to a scale of 15 as per the following: Aggregate Percentage Marks in graduation 50% >50% and < 65% 65% Graduation Index Score 0 {(aggregate marks (%)*100) 50} 15

    e. To ensure gender diversity 5 marks will be awarded for only girls 3. In each category, the top ranking students based on Stage 1 Index Score will be called for further process. The short listed students will have to register at our website and complete the personal profile form online. Any student who does not register online at this stage will not be considered for the subsequent process. Stage 2: Evaluation of students in WAT & PI 4. At the second stage short-listed students have to appear in a written ability task (WAT) followed by a personal interview (PI). The students will be asked to write an extempore essay on a topic of general interest. The topic will be announced at the venue just before the writing task. The written essays will be evaluated on at the least three dimensions style, content, and grammatical correctness. Stage 3: Generation of final admission offer list 5. The final score of each student will be arrived at as follows: Final Score = CAT Index Score (20%) + SSC Index Score (7%) HSC Index Score (7%) +Graduation Index Score (6%) + PI (40%) + WAT (20%) Admission offers will be made to students following the Final Score and as per the Government of India reservation norms.

    Any dispute concerning Admissions for batch 2013-15 would be subject to jurisdiction of the competent Courts within the territorial jurisdiction of the city of Kozhikode only. This document is released by Chairperson-Admissions, Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode, on behalf of the Admissions Committee, IIMK dated 27-08-2012. IIMK reserves the right to change, modify or adopt any new admissions process that it deems necessary and which best suits its purpose of identifying and admitting the most appropriate students to the Post graduate programme.
