F-22 Raptor

Air Dominance Achieved

Redefining Air Dominance
Ten miles up, 100 miles around. The F-22 introduces an entirely new level of fighter
capabilities. By integrating a wealth of different features – from stealth to supercruise –
this 5th generation fighter redefines the meaning of air dominance.

Very Low Observable Stealth. VLO stealth enables the Raptor to operate 24/7
over hostile areas while remaining virtually undetected by enemy air or ground forces.
Supercruise Speeds. The Raptor’s survivability and lethality are sharply enhanced
by its ability to operate for extended periods at speeds greater than Mach 1.5 . . .
without afterburners.
Extreme Fighter Agility. The F-22 brings an additional asymmetrical advantage
by its superior aerodynamic performance and ability to outmaneuver opposing forces
through acceleration and razor-sharp turns.
Information Fusion. With 360-degree battlespace awareness, F-22 pilots direct
the fight by gathering intelligence, conducting surveillance, identifying threats and
coordinating the attack.
Joint Force Enabler. The F-22 Raptor as a key enabler assures air dominance
in any threat environment. This, in turn, ensures safe and effective joint and coalition
forces operations – starting on day one of a conflict.
Demonstrated Operational Maturity
The Collier Award-winning F-22 Raptor has consistently delivered
on its promise in all of its operational exercises. The fighter has
demonstrated precision attack capabilities by defeating threats
in the air and on the ground by combining its lethality and
survivability techniques.
Operational today, the Raptor is currently protecting our Langley AFB, VA
homeland. It is combat-ready for worldwide Elmendorf AFB, AK
deployment. Two squadrons of F-22s are assigned
to Air Combat Command’s 1st Fighter Wing at
Langley AFB, Va. And two squadrons are assigned
Nellis AFB, NV
to the 3rd Wing at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska. Raptor Tyndall AFB, FL
pilots and maintainers train at Tyndall AFB, Fla., Hickam AFB, HI

while operational testing is conducted at Edwards

AFB, Calif., and Nellis AFB, Nev. New F-22s continue
Edwards AFB, CA
to roll from the production line and will soon operate
Holloman AFB, NM
out of Holloman AFB, N.M., and Hickam AFB, Hawaii.

Mission-Ready Sustainment
Reliability with assurance . . . that’s what F-22 sustainment is all
about. Lockheed Martin and our support team are committed to
total support for the F-22 by providing higher readiness, more
sorties, faster response and lower life-cycle cost to our customer.
Our mature supplier base ensures the F-22 receives efficient support
anywhere in the world and provides the fastest, most effective link
between F-22 operator requirements and delivered capability.
This level of support is achieved by Follow-on Agile
Sustainment for the Raptor (FASTeR). FASTeR is a
performance-based logistics contract and comprehensive
weapons management program that provides the U.S. Air
Force with a highly integrated support system including supply
chain management, modifications and heavy maintenance,
technical order distribution, sustaining engineering, training and
direct field support to the warfighter. Recent successes during
deployments and force-on-force exercises highlighted the ease
of F-22 maintainability. At Operation Northern Edge, during
the deployment to Kadena Air Base in Japan and at Red Flag
exercises, F-22 units flew almost 100 percent of the planned
sorties. Combining our experience as the original equipment
manufacturer with the talent in the U.S. Air Force has proven
to be a winning combination.

F-22 Raptor – Air Dominance Achieved Today and Tomorrow

The F-22 Raptor – More Than an Air-Dominance Fighter
The F-22 Raptor is more than an air-dominance fighter, is a national asset of thousands of highly skilled employees and
defending freedom for America and its allies. Its industrial base suppliers in 44 states who manufacture parts and subsystems
for the Raptor.
Lockheed Martin is the program’s
principal systems integrator,
in partnership with Boeing and
Pratt & Whitney. Principal aircraft
production activities take place at
Lockheed Martin facilities in Marietta,
Ga., Fort Worth, Texas, and Palmdale,
Calif., as well as at Boeing’s plant in
Seattle, Wash. Final assembly and initial
flight testing of the Raptor occur at the
Marietta factory.
Two F119 Pratt & Whitney engines, built
in Middletown, Conn., power the F-22. The
F119 features a unique thrust-vectoring
nozzle, integrated stealth characteristics and
the capability to supercruise without the
use of afterburners.
