Course 1: M. Phil. in Mass Communication and Journalism
Course 2: PG Diploma in Video Production
In this ever-changing world the term education is also changing very fast. A decade earlier
education meant the traditional way of learning and sharing of knowledge. But the changes
brought in by the technological advancements and economic growths have changed the whole
concept of learning. Now education means that one should not only develop theoretically strong
concepts but also the translation of it using various media tools. The contemporary world is
highly demanding. Thus, someone who wants to get a job and travel a long way in media
profession must become master of all, i.e. a Single Person Media Shop. Media Education has
changed over time. Once it was synonym to Print Media; but the development and spread of
TV, Internet and other social media have brought in a lot of changes in Media education as
well. The aim of these programmes is to cater to the increasing demands both in media profession
as well as media education. For achieving the above mentioned objectives the Department of
Mass Communication and Journalism is starting two new courses, M. Phil and PG Diploma in
Video Production.

Course 1: Food Microbiology and Toxicology
Consumption of safe food for human health is a global challenge due to various
environmental contaminants. Majority of food borne diseases and toxicity is caused by
microorganisms. Hence, in order to ensure food safety and quality from primary production to
consumption. Knowledge of food microbiology in current times is essential. The knowledge
for isolation, characterization and growth condition of microorganisms is the primary need for
the control of food pathogens. In addition, the microbial toxins and their adverse effect is also
a global challenge due to limited knowledge and facility for toxicity detection and control. The
post graduate course on Food Microbiology and Toxicology shall equip the student for production
of safe food for human health. The newly structured Post Graduate Programme i.e. M.Sc. in
Food Microbiology and Toxicology duly approved by relevant higher bodies of the University
is going to start from the current session (2013-14).

Course 2: P.G. Diploma in Horticulture (Nursery Management and Seed Production)
The primary requirements for successful growth of Agriculture sector is quality seed and
planting material. Even today, quality seeds of superior varieties are difficult to obtain and true
to type planting material is not available in large quantities. Since, there are no accredited
nurseries of repute which can provide such planting material. The primary reason for this
bottleneck appears to be the lack of technically skilled persons who can produce clonal plants
of the superior performing varieties in bulk to enable establishment of commercial orchards or
vegetable farms. The course has been designed for Post Graduate Diploma in Horticulture
(Nursery Management and Seed Production) as a one Year Programme of two semesters.

structure of genomes. Genomics has provided applications in many fields,
includingmedicine,biotechnology,anthropologyand othersocial sciences Proteomics, the
large-scale analysis of proteins, will contribute greatly to our understanding of gene function in
the post-genomic era. After the revolution in molecular biology exemplified by the ease of
cloning by DNA methods, proteomics will add to our understanding of the biochemistry of
proteins, processes and pathways for years to come.

University Science Instrumentation Centre (USIC)
As per the UGCs ingenious plan every Indian University must have a Science Instruments
Centre. In fact, the creation of such a centre is becoming obligatory for every university for the
reason that the modern day science demands the use of precision equipments for the acceptability
of data. Such centres help stop duplication of sophisticated equipments, which cost huge amounts
and in turn help in regulating the use of the sanctioned money in the most judicious way.
This University has established USIC, which is housed on the ground floor of the School
for Environmental Sciences building. USIC has three precision equipments: 1. Scanning Electron
Microscope, (SEM, Model JSM-6490 LV of JEOL, Japan) with EDX facility and two preparatory
units, viz., Critical Point Dryer and Ion Sputter Coater; 2. Fourier Transform Infrared
Spectrometer with ATR - Attenuated Total Reflectance ( FT-IR Spectrometer, Model Nicolet

6700 OF Thermo Scientific, USA); 3. Fast Performance Liquid Chromatograph (FPLC, Model
EKTA 10 of GE Healthcare Bioscience. Sweden). These equipments have been procured and
are under regular use in USIC.
