Nozzle Flow-Reaction Force Compar

This document contains charts comparing the flow rates and reaction forces of different types of nozzles used for firefighting. It provides data on the flow rate in gallons per minute and reaction force in pounds for a range of nozzle pressures and sizes. It notes that nozzles generating under 45 pounds of force are too weak, while over 68 pounds is too much force for a single firefighter to safely handle. The document contains this data for both standard low-pressure attack nozzles and smooth-bore nozzles.

Streams having nozzle reaction forces under 45 pounds/force are considered too weak for effective firefighting. Streams having nozzle reactions over
68 pounds/force are usually considered as generating too much reaction force to be safely handled by a single firefighter.

Smooth Bore nozzles generate effective streams at nozzle pressures as low as 30 PSI, but, the streams will
degrade at pressures over 60 PSI.
