Spiritual Science: Life, Death and Beyond

Spiritual science is needed to discuss topics like the living force, mind, God, the purpose of the universe, life, and death. Modern science only deals with inert matter and has failed to understand the subtle topics of mind and spirit. Spiritual science was well-developed in ancient Indian texts, containing theories about mind, meditation, God, and more that are now being scientifically proven. A lack of spiritual education has led to degradation of culture, morality, and individuals who are selfish with no aim in life.

Spiritual Science

The Need for Spiritual Science All Sciences deal only with matter which is inert and dead. Even biology which is supposed to deal with life and mind has been reduced to only dealing with the body of living beings and mind is so subtle that modern science is simply struggling to understand it and has failed. Thus there is a need of spiritual science which discusses about the living force, mind, GOD, purpose of the universe, life, death, and many other topics. All these questions have, until now, been left to only religionists and philosophers for speculation but now as scholars have researched the ancient Indian sciences, they have found well-developed theories about mind, how it functions, mediation, GOD, birth, death, science of sound (mantras), etc.. Many of these theories have now been scientifically proven. The lack of this subject in schools and colleges has led to real degradation of culture, morals, ethics of the whole society and individuals with very less tolerance, no aim in life, fearful, indulgence in wrong habbits, addictions, selfishness, etc.. Education department only focuses on economic development, thus focussing on engineering and medical brances but not on educating human spiritual values which is the basis for real happy, peaceful society at large. Life of an individual is aimless, heading only for job positions, higher salary packages, and gross enjoyment at the body level, thus harming oneself and others. Science and technology is not the way of life. Rather their theories are speculative and ephemeral(temporary) which last only for few years until they are revised or refuted. If Science and technology is made as the foundation of human social life, then the day is not far away when we too would be affected with all the problems of the west where the whole civilization is only based on gross matter and life/humans are also treated as matter, in a mechanical way. Life, Death and Beyond

Five fundamental topics which cover all the branches of knowledge are: 1. Soul, 2. God, 3. Material World (Modern Science), 4. Time, 5. Action (Karma).

Soul Life means 3 things 1. 2. Consciousness Desire

1

Animals, plants and humans have souls. There are 84 lakh species. 4 lakh are humans human life begins with three inquires: a) Who am I?1 b) Why am I suffering? c) How can I be relieved of sufferings?

1. Human Being
There are four motives or principles of life which are common in human beings and animals namely a. b. c. d. eating, sleeping, mating defending. But if human beings all around the world use their intelligence in developing technology which caters to their needs of these four motives, then they cannot be called better than animals. Humans can be called as two legged animals. However, there is special prerogative of humans which animal do not have. We see that only humans, all around the world, have some sort of inquisitiveness for knowing the reality about life, this world, where it came from, etc. . But in animal society they do not have such inquiry. So the privilege that human being has is that he can inquire about life, death, purpose of life, the nature around him and his true identity.

1.1 Special qualification of Human being

The special qualification or privilege that Humans have got is that he can inquire about such questions as: a) b) c) d) e) f) g) Who am I? What is life? Who is God? What is my relationship with God? What is the difference between a living body and dead body? From where nature and universe is originating? Who created universe? Why sufferings and problems exist in world after all? How can I be free from all problems forever and how world can be fully peaceful?

It is generally seen that children have natural inquisitiveness and ask many questions to their parents. But as they grow up, their inquisitiveness becomes limited to fulfil these four animalistic propensities as he gets trained by animalistic environment around him.

Sanatana Goswamis 3 questions to Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu ( From Chaitanya Charitamrita by Krishnadas Kaviraj Goswami)

1.2 Animal propensity and human propensity

A person with animal propensities always thinks of satisfying himself by exploiting others and by giving pain to others whereas a person with human propensity always thinks of benefit of other without any motive of exploitation. Nowadays people are being taught to work hard like a machine or a programmed Robot or a donkey just to fulfil their animalistic needs. The structure of modern education is such that it make a child more and more selfish as he grows. Thus as a child grows he develops all animal propensities. He loses all finer sentiments or feelings like helping others, or sacrificing for others, working for others benefit.

We are not this body

Although Who am I? seems a simple straightforward question to answer, it is not so. Sometimes simple does not necessarily mean easy. We must deal with this question scientifically and systematically. You may reply to this question, I am Mr. so and so, I am an engineer or a doctor, I am a male or a female. Do not be alarmed if scriptures say, You are none of these! One can easily understand how the spirit soul is different from body. Our bodies are continuously changing, so much so that our photographs as a baby entirely differ from our photographs of our youth or old age. However, on careful thought, we can see that we are the same person throughout. I am the same person when I was a child and when I am an adult. The I is same. We still remember our childhood memories, and we also feel that our identity has remained the same throughout so many years of our life that have passed by; still, within this period our bodies have entirely changed. In fact, our bodies are changing every moment. Science says that every moment there is a change in our bodies: chemicals are changing, innumerable cells are destroyed and formed anew, and the electric impulses of neurons (nerve cells) change every millisecond. Science has shown all our brain cells change every seven years. Thus, to say that we are brain or the memory/information stored in brain is not a fact. This proves that we are not this body; we are spirit soul different from bodies. Death is a vivid reality poorly understood by science. On death, the entire functions of body stops. Heart ceases to beat, brain ceases to fire electric impulses, organs start to decompose, and the eyes loose their luster. One may wonder: What was that which made the body function? Brain is just a combination of different patterns of nerves, and heart is just a group of involuntary muscles. Why do brain nerves fire, and why do heart muscles beat. How these organs work? How the heart keeps on beating twenty-four hours a day, all life long? How the brain keeps on generating electric signals every millisecond?

1.3 Human vs matter 1.4 Human vs God 2. Purpose of Human Life

So, human life has a purpose. Human being is meant to direct his inquisitiveness to understand God, his relationship with God. His relationship with God is his true identity. If one spends his life 3

without inquiring about God and his relationship with Him then he spends his life irresponsibly and in vain like a dog or a pig. Human life is meant to know God and Love Him. But modern schools and colleges do not provide any such knowledge to students. We see around us so many gifts of God. He has given us life to live. He has given us wheat, rice, vegetables to eat and keep ourselves fit and healthy by satisfying our hunger. He has given us water to satisfy our thirst. He has given us air to breathe. He has created sun and its light without which plant cannot grow and humans will die. He created earth upon which all species of life live. The wonderful nature is created by God. But despite of all these facts we do not appreciate God, and do not feel obliged towards him. Human society does not feel any gratitude towards God. In this way human society nowadays has degraded even lower than a dog. A dog feels obliged and remains faithful to his master who feeds him with bread. But human being remains thankless.

2.1 Defect in Modern world

Ironically, what to speak of feeling obliged, human society is denying the existence of God more and more. God created universe but modern science falsely claims that universe came from a Big-bang explosion. Modern science claims that life originated from matter although they have been unable to prove this in there laboratories. They are unable to create even a flower or mosquito from some chemicals. Science foolishly claims that human has come from monkey whereas no proof for the same has been found. Seeing a flying airplane a child may say that it is flying automatically but an intelligent, educated person knows that there is pilot inside it who is driving it. Similarly to a childlike person it appears that universe is moving automatically because of some interaction of matter and he foolishly fails to recognize the pilot inside universe. There are millions of stars, and galaxies which are in perfect order. Similarly sun, moon, planets are in perfect order and never deviate from their orbits. Season on earth always come in same order year after year. Even at atomic level we see subatomic particles like electrons, protons and neutrons arranged in perfect order. Similarly molecular structure have intelligent design which give these molecules some specific functionality. For example Atomic structure of carbon in diamond is tetrahedral whereas in graphite it is hexagonal. So although the element carbon is same but changing a structure changes its functionality altogether. Who has put that functionality in some specific structure? Who has put sweetness in the atomic structure of sugar? Where From the liquidity of water comes?

So point is that nothing happens by chance or automatically. Behind such intelligent design and order of universe there is the Big-Brain and not the Big-Bang as the foolish people claim. Everything in universe is under full control. Hydrogen and oxygen put in different vessels will never mix automatically to generate water. Some person has to mix them with some process and water will be generated. Intelligent design hints at designer. A brush, colors and paper may be available but it is artist who creates a beautiful painting. It will be childish to say that a big-bang occurred and painting originated. There are many particles like electrons, protons, quarks, gluons etc and laws governing nature, like gravitational laws, electromagnetic laws etc. But laws indicate that a law maker should be there. Laws do not come automatically. State government creates some laws for its citizen not that laws got originated with some 4

explosion in some corner of state. With explosion chaos, disorder, destruction comes not a perfect construction of design, order and laws.

2.2 The aim of human life

So God exists and it is the duty of every human being to inquire about Him. The aim of human life is to re-establish relationship with God and thus to re-awaken dormant "love of God" present in our heart. This is perfection of humanity irrespective of which religion one belongs to. But if we do not feel obliged to God and deny his existence out of vanity then we are living no better than dog howsoever advanced we may become in science and technology. Science and technology is not wrong because it is also coming from God. The intelligence of a scientist is also coming from God although in false prestige he may deny this fact. But if advancement in science and technology is not used to help in understanding God and is use only to increase our animal propensities then humans can be called as advanced or sophisticated dogs and hogs without any morals or culture.

3. Formula for world peace

One cannot get any happiness, enjoyment or peace of mind, whether individually, or collectively as a society, nation or world, if one is away or disconnected from God. As a leaf disconnected from branch wither away and get dried up within no time similarly civilizations disconnected from God will always feel anxiety and no happiness at all. The solution to all problems is that whole human society should serve God and develop love for Him. Therefore a sane man should be ambitious to find the real source of happiness. In order to find this source, however, we need some knowledge of what that happiness is. There is the story of the foolish man who had no experience with sugar cane. When he asked his friend about the characteristics of sugar cane, he was imperfectly informed that sugar cane resembles the shape of a bamboo stick. Consequently he began trying to extract juice from bamboo sticks, but naturally he was baffled in his attempts. Similarly we are being ill-informed by modern society and by science and technology that happiness lies in fulfilment of animal propensities. So people work hard like donkeys and get baffled in search of enjoyment at the end of their life. If a person in ignorance mistakes a snake for a rope and hangs it over shoulder, surely he will die. Similarly if out of ignorance one keeps on thinking that he can become happy by denying the existence of God then such person is in illusion and invites unlimited miseries for himself. If one goes on making and executing plans to be happy in this world by controlling it, the more miserable his life will be. When root of a tree is watered then the all parts of tree (branches, leaves, twigs etc) get nourished by that water. Similarly when food is made to reach stomach through mouth then only all other parts of body feel nourished by that food. In the similar way when God is served, all can become happy otherwise not. Serving humanity and forgetting God will not help in anyway as not feeding stomach through mouth will render other parts of body weak. When all people will accept God to be supreme controller and willingly get controlled by His instructions sincerely then only there will be benefit for whole world and peace can prevail.

4. Science of God
Now we discuss the science of God in brief. First of all this should be understood that we are not this body but we are residing in this body as a person resides in some apartment. This body is like a machine in which a living force is there. Because of that living force body and mind acts in different ways. For example "Car " and its "Driver " both are different things. There is no use of car without a driver. A driver uses a car to reach a particular destination. Similarly living force drives our body. Without living force body cannot move and is declared as dead. We are that living force and we can use this car-like body to reach a particular destination. When car gets destroyed or when it is no more suitable for driver then he changes it. Similarly when a particular body is not suitable for a living force then a new body is given to it. That living force is known as soul. Similarly this universe is a huge body and it is being driven by another big living force which is known as God or Supersoul. This Supersoul is present everywhere. Human life is meant for advanced knowledge. Advanced knowledge means to know oneself, to answer the question, 'Who am I'? In whole world there is no technological department which is investigating the difference between dead man and a living man. When a man dies something is lost where is the technology to replace it? Because this is very difficult subject matter, modern science brush it aside by saying "it is irrelevant", and busily engage themselves in the technology of eating, sleeping , mating and defending. Human's knowledge should be developed to explore the difference between a living body and dead body. The identity of person is that he is soul and not the body which cover his soul. The science of soul and Supersoul (God) is to be understood through complete scientific and philosophical understanding and not in any dogmatic way. The presence of soul in our body is perceivable by dint of consciousness and similarly the presence of God can be perceived by virtue of presence of the super-consciousness.

4.1 Consciousness and Soul - logically explained

We know the fact that everyone, either atheist or theist, is conscious of himself. Whether you believe in God or not but you are conscious. You may be from any religion but you are conscious. The proof is that as soon as I pinch any part of your body, you at once protest, "somebody is pinching me! I am feeling pain!. Consciousness is there even in the animals. Now what is this consciousness? "Consciousness is that which is spread all over your body and it is eternal". How is consciousness eternal? That can be understood by practical experience. In childhood we are conscious, in our boyhood we are conscious, in our youth we are conscious, and as we progress to old age we will be conscious. So our body is changing but our consciousness continues unchanged. As soon as there is no consciousness in the body, the body is dead. Then what is consciousness? It is the symptom of the presence of the soul. Just as fire situated in one place distributes heat and light everywhere, the spirit soul present in your body spreads consciousness all over your body. 6

4.2 Transmigration of soul Again irrespective of any religion, we see that from our childhood body to our boyhood body to our youthful body, our consciousness continues. Similarly, our consciousness will carry us into another body, and that transmigration from one body to another is called death. When our old body cannot be maintained anymore, the consciousness has to be transferred to a new body. When our garment is too old, it has to be changed. Similarly when the material body is too old to carry on, our consciousness is transferred to another body and we begin another life. This is the law of nature. But unfortunately the modern educational system has no department for teaching about consciousness or the spirit soul, although this knowledge is the most important. Without consciousness, without the soul's being present, the body is useless. We take very good care of the body but have no knowledge of consciousness or the spirit soul. There is a story related to it. There was a king and he had a pet parrot in a cage. He kept one servant to take care of the parrot. However the cage of parrot was made of gold. The foolish servant use to clean the golden cage very carefully and forgot to feed the parrot. Within few days the parrot died. Similarly if we keep ourself busy in animal activities of this body which is like cage made of flesh and forget to feed our soul which resides in this cage then the soul (we) will suffer and will never be satisfied. Similarly taking the previous example, If Driver keeps very good care of car but forgets to feed himself then he will become weak and will soon die. This conscious entity called soul manipulates matter and produces so many creations like Television, Internet, transportation (rail, road), communication (mobile phones, smart phones etc) etc and controls them. Similarly consciousness of God or Supersoul is pervading this universe because of which intelligent design and perfect order is visible at macroscopic and atomic levels. If we being a tiny soul can create airplane or satellite and make it float in space then why God who is Supersoul cannot create this universe in which unlimited planets are floating? Thus whole universe is created by and is under the control of that superconsciousness.

5. Relationship with God

Now next question comes what relationship does soul (minutely conscious entity) has with Supersoul (super-conscious entity)? First things which should be always kept in mind is that soul in any case cannot become Supersoul. Soul and Supersoul both have their different forms and identities. Some fools say that soul can become Supersoul at some stage but it is illusion. Such foolish propositions that man can become God should be rejected altogether.

5.1 Inherent property of soul

Sugar's essential characteristic, is sweetness. If you are given some white powder and you find that it is not sweet, you will at once say, "Oh, this is not sugar; it is something else." Similarly the inherent property of fire is that it consist of heat and light. The natural characteristic of water is that it is liquid and it can flow. In the similar way, natural characteristic of soul is to love somebody and thus serve him. That is why we see practically from our day to day life that all human beings are serving someone. One may be serving his boss, other may be serving nation, some are serving a big organization, someone is serving his wife and children, other is serving his parents and so on and If one has no one to serve, he keeps

a pet cat or dog and render service to it. But we see that in spite of such service being rendered no one is satisfied and there is frustration at end. It is so because one does not know where to repose his love and service. Thus when one's service is misdirected one will always be dissatisfied. If instead of putting water to roots of a tree one puts water to leaves then gradually tree will dry and die. Similarly if one goes on serving humanity in any way but forgets to serve God then he will never feel satisfied. This applies to all people irrespective to which religion they belong to.

5.2 Serving God with Love

So ultimately the point is that when soul (consciousness) trains himself to love and renders service to God (super-consciousness) then only soul can enjoy unlimitedly, eternally and will be fully satisfied. What is the gain if one conquers the whole world and what loss is there if one loves and serves God? A civilization not based on loving God will always be in misery and trouble. So irrespective of any religion a person should try to develop love for God and serve him rather than getting absorbed in technology and fulfilling his animal propensities. Some people worship God for some material gain, some for removal of their miseries but this is not love rather business. God has to be loved unconditionally. There are others who desire to merge into God because they do not want to serve God thus limit their enjoyment. One must love and serve God without any motive and any personal desire. This only will lead to the happiness and peace of world.

6. Rectifying the defects of world

Modern civilization only teaches how to earn money and fulfil animal needs and thus it is neglecting the urgent need of educating students to train them to love God. Modern society has created a network of television, internet, and mobile phones which project nothing but sex, violence, hatred, envy and exploitation. That is why in spite of so much advancement in science and technology; miseries, crimes, diseases, dissatisfaction among people have increased.

6.1 Proper Use of technology

It should be taught to students that how to use technology in proper way in the service of God rather than using it in abominable way to increase miseries of world. So it is the duty of every citizen to feel the need of training of such science in his life and at the same time help other to get this training. Educational institutions should also wake up to feel the urgency of such spiritual education to teach the students this science. Without introducing such science all other achievements are nothing but a failure as they will not lead to satisfaction, peace and happiness in human society. If modern society does not rectifies this blunder of denying the existence of God and does not start to serve him then the day is not far when the whole civilization will become hellish and all population will be suffering severely from various natural and man-made problems. Whatever degrees a student may have from universities but if they deny the existence of God and do not serve him with love then all their qualification is just like a decoration on dead-body and thus they look ugly. All their achievements are like gem on the hood of venomous serpent. Although a serpent may have gem on its hood but still he is animal and is very dangerous similarly such a society is like a venomous snake which aims at harming others. 8

6.1 Directing the hard work

Everyone has to do some work. No one by nature can stay idle. We see all around that people are working very hard. Nowadays people are working even harder than animals to satisfy basic needs whereas animals and birds get their basic needs easily by arrangement of God. So activity is the nature of soul whereas inertia is opposite to it. But all work should not be meant to satisfy animal tendencies. To do hard work without understanding the purpose is simply foolishness. Everyone desires happiness which never ends and thus is unlimited, and remains always new and fresh (and never boring) and is always increasing. But in this world whatever meagre, flickering and abominable happiness is got does not have any of these qualities. On the contrary the trivial happiness derived from material objects brings miseries. But happiness derived by serving God is unlimited, remains always new and it always increases. So students must be taught to work hard in the direction of knowing their true identity, character building and finding ways and means to love and glorify God. It is the responsibility of parents and teachers to engage students in serving God so that gradually they can develop affection for him. All the activities of students should be such that it helps them to develop love for God. Students should be taught Arts, Music, Poetry, Languages, Technologies, Literature etc so as to engage their talents in the service and glorification of God. For example one should learn music and should sing the glories of Lord. Whatever talent a man has it should be used to glorify God so that he can develop love for God. Developing love for God is the only goal and perfection of human life. But if they are not given such education in colleges and are left to watch television, movies, internet, malls, which project nothing but hatred, competition, envy, violence, exploitation and abominable sex then how peace can prevail in world. Such a society where such spiritual science is not taught and students are trained in colleges to earn money by hook or crook and exploit others is no better than animal society. In such a technologically advanced society of two legged animals peace and harmony cannot be expected. As a fish out of water is in troubled condition similarly a man averse to God and his service creates his own destiny of unlimited sufferings. Once spiritual science is introduced across the world all problem individual, social, political, economy, hunger, wars etc - can be solved in one stroke and resulting in making earth as heaven.

Spiritual Science

All Sciences deal only with matter which is inert and dead. Material Science Knowledge of only matter: Material knowledge denies the existence anything beyond matter. Spiritual Science Comparative knowledge of matter and spirit: Spiritual knowledge rationally concludes the existence of Soul and God, and their relationship, the process to re-establish that relationship, and the final result of reestablishing that relationship.

Deals with gross questions: Concerns with phenomena regarding the composition of matter and the laws that govern it. Biased approach: In the very beginning, it assumes that there cannot be anything beyond matter.

As useful as brushing the teeths: Material knowledge may provide us with technological inventions to increase our bodily comforts, but only at the expense of time that can be cultivated to understand the Absolute Truth.

Deals with common sense questions: Why do we die? Why we take birth? Why we must get diseased? And, why we become old? Unbiased approach: Nothing is accepted blindly or rejected blindly. Common sense is used to investigate into matter as well as spirit beyond matter. Everything is accepted and analyzed scientifically and systematically. Ultimate use: Spiritual knowledge may not result in scientific inventions, but one would be able to understand Absolute Truth and the real aim of life. Material knowledge can be used to cultivate 10

Who keeps on talking about brushing to his fellowmen? Just as brushing teeth is useful, but not a real necessity for earning money in life, similarly material knowledge may be useful, bt definitely it is not focus and aim of life. Increasing sense enjoyment: All the endeavors of our science and education is simply to do better eating, mating, sleeping, and defending. Finally destructive: Initially results in bodily comforts, but ends in mental stress and anxieties on the individual level, and invention of dangerous weapons and terrorism and global unrest. Ignorance

spiritual knowledge.

Cultivating spiritual bliss: Spiritual knowledge teaches us that we should not waste time in eating, sleeping, mating, and defending. Rather we should be satisfied in what we have, that is provided to us by God and cultivate spirituality. Ultimate satisfaction: Spiritual knowledge results in ultimate satisfaction of life and permanent release from birth and death.

Real knowledge

Five fundamental topics which cover all the branches of knowledge are: 1. Soul, 2. God, 3. Material World, 4. Time, 5. Action (Karma). Three types of knowledge are the foundations to understand spiritual science 1. The knowledge of the relationship of Soul with GOD along with the knowledge of interaction of time, matter, and karma 2. The knowledge of the process of reviving the forgotten relationship between Soul and GOD. 3. The result of such revival is Love of God, the goal of human life.
