MITCHELL PARK CRICKET CLUB

2011/12 was a successful summer for Mitchell Park Cricket Club, upon which
we are looking to strengthen and build towards even bigger and better things.
A Grade this past summer was led by Tim Harris, and expectations were high.
Whilst the teams elding and bowling performances improved dramatically,
its batting rarely revealed enough runs; and in the game where it mattered
most, Round 10, to continue a winning streak to try and make the nals, both
the batting and elding let the team down. A Grade roared out of the gates
with a 3-1 start to the season, but then dropped three games in a row and
suddenly needed to win all of its last four matches to qualify. It was not to be.
The team nished just eight points out of the nals in fth place with six wins
and ve losses, having beaten the grand nalists in three of four games during
the summer. However, there were plenty of positives to be gained from the
season. Darren Adams continued his ne career form with the bat to lead the
way for the team from that viewpoint, including three half-centuries in his 258
runs at an impressive 51.6 average, in limited appearances. Jamie Somereld,
whilst never tallying more than 50 in any innings, was still at least an extremely
consistent performer with the bat (237 @ 26.33). Chris Badman also had a
very good start to the summer. As mentioned earlier, in the eld the Lions were
remarkably better than in previous seasons, and this was often the difference
in matches; the catches and runouts were taken, and elders were always keen
not to end up on The Sherriffs dropped catch nes list. Nick Szepessy tallied
the most elding votes to lead the way for the team; Jamie Somereld was
surprisingly not often picked for votes, but still took eight catches, including
four in one innings, and has the safest pair of hands at the club.
The area of bowling was undoubtedly Mitchell Parks greatest new weapon.
Mark Hibberd played his rst season of A Grade cricket and impressed all
at that level with his commitment, effort and never-say-die attitude, grabbing
25 wickets at a cost of just 13.2 runs per wicket to lead the charge. He was
backed up by a host of good bowlers in Jake Hollis (21 @ 13.7), Damien Gelven
(14 @ 10.8), Allan King (14 @ 12) and Tim Stewart (10 @ 6.9). Jakes haul of
5/25 against ICC Sharks was a just reward for some long spells of brilliant
bowling without a wicket in some games, and set up a potential win which
unfortunately was not capitalised on. His improvement this summer was
critical to the teams success. Gelvens bag of 5/16 versus Warradale set up an
impressive win for the Lions early in the season, and his bowling was always
dangerous. Rounding out that bowling contingent was Robert Quintel, who
snared eight wickets, often bowling as a fth option when one of those afore-
126
127
mentioned players were absent. He ensured that he was a worthy player in
that team.
The A Grade looks forward to the challenge of qualifying for nals next summer,
and continuing to show its improvement.
The B Grade, too, irted with nals contention for most of the summer before
falling away at the wrong end of the season. Robert Muchan was named
captain and led from the front with his bowling, capturing 16 wickets (@
15.1), including a season-best of 6/37 vs Morphettville Park. Steve Rodgers
continued his impressive all-round form with bat and ball, scoring 332 runs
(@33.2) and leading the B Grade wicket tally in taking 21 wickets @ 15.7. His
nest moment came in scoring 112 against Coromandel Ramblers, during
which he also featured in a mighty partnership of 165 with Daniel Edwards.
Paul Halas also made a century, 107 at Coromandels Blackwood Oval,
which cemented another win for the Lions. He recorded 297 runs at 42.4.
Unfortunately outside this pair, B Grade found consistent run scoring options
difcult to come by which, not unlike A Grade, made it difcult for them to
make nals in a tough, tight division. They nished sixth with a 6-5 record. One
of their most impressive efforts came in winning a game outright after they had
performed disastrously in losing rst innings points, and when it appeared the
game could go no worse for them.
A number of other bowlers chimed in for the B Grade wickets-wise. Adam
Kelly took 17 @ 16.1 with his swing bowling and Daniel Edwards 10 @ 16.3
with some tight spin bowling, with various others stepping in where required
to put in a consistent effort.
C Grade were the toast of the Club in making the Grand Final of Section 6.
After a terrible 2010/11 for the Cs where they practically nished last (but
for some teams which folded during that summer), 2011/12 took a complete
turn for the better. Players were available unlike the previous season and
often people actually had to miss out on games, which had been a rarity in
the previous couple of years. Despite this, there was just about someone who
always would pull out on the eve or the morning of the game; luckily, these
numbers ensured there was always someone willing and able to step into
the side. Peter Berkshire returned as captain and wicketkeeper, and guided
the side to a 9-2 record (one forfeit win), including one outright victory. He
also scored 362 runs @ 32.9, including a season high of 130 vs Coromandel
Ramblers and two half-centuries. He was aided and abetted by fellow veteran
John Leicester, who made a triumphant return to form in scoring 418 runs @
38. His highest score of 109 at Coromandel came out of a team total of 187
in desperate circumstances, and he also scored another three half centuries.
John Forster also scored 202 runs for the season with two half centuries,
including a ne 61 in the semi-nal vs Sheidow Park. Mark Beavis made 177 @

22.1 to round out the highest run scorers for the season.
Terry Hollis, as ever, spearheaded the bowling attack with 25 wickets at 14.3,
and was always on target. John Forster was just behind him in taking 24 wicket
@ 16.1, capping a ne all-round season for him. He had a season best of
5/60 vs Adelaide Cavaliers. In limited matches, Moss Fawdry made a welcome
return to the club, taking 17 wickets @ 12.5, including two ve wicket hauls
of 5/58 vs Warradale and 5/48 vs Warradale. Kyle Hanegraaf also took 13
wickets, and Ben Judd and John Leicester 10 each.
The C Grade won their semi-nal against Sheidow Park comfortably, but sadly
could not chase down Morphettville Parks total in the Grand Final, ending an
outstanding season for them on a downer. However, with most of their veteran
base intact, they hope to return to nals action this summer.
The summers awards night was a splendid feature as always, organised by
our hard-working committee and capped by Mark Sansomes vote count, not
to mention Chanel Druszczs delicious meal. At the end of the vote count for
the Alan Sutherland Trophy, Mark Hibberd and Steve Rodgers were the two
men left standing, tied on 22 votes, with Jake Hollis and and John Leicester
some distance behind on 14 each.
Steve Rodgers doubled up for the all-rounders points-based award, the Daryl
Reynolds Trophy, with 682 points; John Leicester was second on 617 points
and Terry Hollis third on 521.
Joel Forster, in his rst season of senior cricketand playing with the C Grade,
won the Mark Sansome Fielding Trophy, not only topping our Club, but also
tied for rst place in the entire Association with 14 votes an astounding
achievement!
Brett Campbell won his third straight wicketkeepers trophy from Chris Badman
and Peter Berkshire.
Other awards given on the night included presentations for Brett Campbell and
Tim Harris victory in the Double Wicket Competition, as well as Tim Harris for
Best Club Person.
Undoubtedly the most important awards given were those of Life Membership
to Mitchell Park Cricket Club. These awards were given to Bob Pearce
(presented by Mark Sansome), John Forster (presented by Terry Hollis)
and Tim Harris (presented by Darren Adams), all worthy recipients for their
contributions to and representation of our great Club.

Dylan Pretty was outstanding in his rst year as President; his enthusiasm was
infectious and inspiring and he was surrounded by a long list of committee
members. Amongst others, Brett Campbell continues to sell countless rafe
tickets like nobody else can, Daniel Edwards keeps us informed of whats
happening in league meetings and forming the treasured season booklet,
Mark Sansome keeps things running smoothly behind the scenes as treasurer
, and Tim Harris helps out where he can. Outside of the committee, Darren
Adams runs the very professional-looking website and Jake Hollis - aka The
Sherriff - rounded up Club nes for dropped catches and ducks, as well as
helping out the committee in a number of other ways, and was always nearby
to lend a hand if required. Chanel Druszcz and Jess Hill worked endlessly to
run our canteen and provide meals at the end of rounds. They also raised
money for us by providing meals at Association functions and matches. Their
amazing volunteer efforts, along with those of Kathy Szepessy, can never be
underestimated. They are as valuable a part of this Club as any player, ofcial
or sponsor. Chanel also did an outstanding job collecting match payments and
recording the data.
Thank you again to all these people and others who continue to make Mitchell
Park Cricket Club a magnicent place to be a part of. Things are looking up
for us as we continue to build towards a great future, on the backs of great
volunteers and sponsors and the efforts of our surrounding community.
MORPHETTVILLE PARK CRICKET CLUB
Club Colours: Green, Gold and Red
Club History: Formerly :Saint Marks
Founded 1922, joined ASCA 1942- 43
In its seventieth season with Adelaide and Suburban, Morphettville Park Cricket
Club elded four quality sides each match and won one premiership from three
nalists. The A-grade was competitive, blending winning cricket, ve wins and a
draw, with two losses to bottom four sides, thus costing them a deserved place
in the nals - after being in the top half of the ladder for most of the season. The
rise of our B-grade is evidence of how much stronger and more competitive
our club has become. After a semi-nal victory over the minor premier they lost
the grand-nal by four wickets to an A-grade side they had beaten earlier in the
season. They are the leading B-grade side in the competition. Our C-grade,
who nished third, also had to compete against A-grade sides in the nals.
They won nine games losing to the eventual premier in their semi-nal. A
132
bittersweet statistic is that they have played in semi-nals for six of the last
eight seasons, winning only once. The Fourth Eleven produced a team effort
every week losing only two matches. After struggling for so many seasons they
won our rst D-grade premiership and the clubs twenty-second, in only their
second nals series. Ross Brokenshas under-15 side also lost a tight SCJCA
grand nal. After no centuries last season we scored seven for only the fourth
time in our history, with at least one in every grade. 30 fties were also scored,
proving that there were players batting well in virtually every match of every
round. Further evidence of this seasons depth was that we used 71 players, 36
of whom aggregated a hundred runs or more. While some bowlers dominated,
all attacks had potency.
New captain Steven Thomas led the way for the A-grade with 538 runs: our
highest A-grade batting aggregate in a decade. It also won him the Association
Section 1 batting trophy. His top score of 169 is the second highest A-grade
innings in our history, just behind Jim Coulls 186 in 1944-45. Chad Franceschini
proved to be a valuable all-round recruit by scoring 356 runs. This was
highlighted when Chad was selected in the Association under-21 team. Reliable
support came from Kev Brokensha 206, Chris Spehr 189 plus 17 catches and
Ross Brokensha 174 runs and 13 catches. Two other recruits, Rob McCard 159
and reliable opener Rohan Prigg with 140 runs boosted the top order. Barton
Sweet 117, Scott Paterson 115 and Daniel Florance 97 completed a solid
batting line-up. Daniel and Chris Spehr shared the only century partnership.
The A-grades 363 runs against Coromandel is our second highest A-grade
score and their best since 1996-97.
Rob McCard supported his batting with 27 wickets including a best of 6/16,
while the honest and reliable Daniel Florance took 19. Into the wind bowler Paul
OLoughlin with 16 wickets supported the strike bowlers. The all-rounders did
well: Steven Thomas with 15, including the seasons best haul of 7/42, Chad
Franceschini 13 and Kev Brokensha with 12 wickets, added valuable support
to the main attack.
After a slow start to the season Grant Whellum totalled 392 runs to win his third
batting trophy. This included his maiden century of 137, after 3600 runs. Grant
was runner-up for the Section Two batting trophy. Captain Daniel Monro led by
example with the bat scoring 285 runs, while talented Bharat Roocke scored
262 and consistent Kym Woodward scored 241 top-order runs. Mark Nurney,
another new player, proved a valuable all-round contributor with 140 runs and
combined with Whellum for the seasons second best partnership of 152 runs in
a vital run-chase against Ramblers. Dion Gregory posted 135 well earned runs.
Andrew Hirschausen scored 94 runs and took 11 catches.
The bowling was dominated by three players taking 69% of the wickets. Michael
Barnetts 35 wickets: third in Section 2, a best of 6/29, four bags of ve; won
133
him his sixth consecutive bowling trophy. Bharat Roocke was the reliable foil to
Barny with 34 wickets, while the serviceable Rhett Weeks took 17. With support
from several other bowlers, they seldom had to chase big scores.
Danny Miller has always had all-round credentials, but this year he added to his
ve bowling trophies with his rst batting trophy by scoring 262 C-grade runs,
which included his maiden century. Mature age recruit Travis Hebbard with 206
runs became the rst player since 2006-07 to score two centuries in a season,
adding to his D-grade century with an even 100. Reliable old-stagers Jason
Crisp 191 runs, Geoff George 169 and captain Heath Culliver with 164 added
their usual stability to the batting line-up. Alan Bowman contributed 151 runs,
while ten catch slipper Mark Voyzey scored 139 and wicket-keeper Damien
Chesson got 109.
Like the Bs their bowling was dominated by three players. Perennial trier Les
Roach with 24 wickets, including the best haul of 6/38, won his second bowling
trophy after 307 wickets. Heath Culliver took 20 while old faithful Geoff Hardy
snared 12.
The D-Grade had a very even side with different contributors each match. Three
players scored centuries: Daniel Golding 115, yet another mature-age recruit
Pat Broadwood 110 not out and Travis Hebbard 115. Golding scored 265 runs,
Broadwood 241 at that average, while Hebbard, who also did well in for the Cs,
scored 124. Golding and Broadwood recorded the clubs best partnership for
the season with 180 runs. Experienced players Jess Keon 236 runs and Jack
Voyzey 228 combined with recruit Max OCallaghan 221, opener Mark Simons
162, captain Jarrod Robinson 152, Simon Cooper 113 and Mike Henley 109
runs to prove that this side batted well down. That was necessarily displayed
in both their nals.
Kane Landorfs consistency easily won the bowling trophy with 28 wickets
including a best of 5/41. Kanes total is the best for the D-grade since 1977-78.
Honest trier Mike Henley assisted with 16 wickets. Newcomer Rick Conway
snared 12, while ever-reliable Aaron Bloomeld grabbed ten. Andy Smith saved
his best for the grand nal to grab a ve wicket haul. The under and over bowled
wicket-keeper Jarrod Robinson, who got 14 dismissals behind the stumps, also
grabbed the clubs best bowling haul for the season with 7/30.
The leading elder for our club in the Association voting with eleven votes was
the young and athletic Ben Warne.
Several very successful social functions were held during the season particularly
the well attended Ladies and Sponsors Day and the reunion of players from
the 1991-92 triple premiership season. Also the function at our club after the A
grade match to present the inaugural David Lee Trophy that was unfortunately
lost to Western Youth Centre, was well attended by both clubs. Well done to
Peter Roach, Grant Whellum and their committee for a well organised and run

The Grand nal was a well fought out contest between Morphy Parks, the
game was still in the balance with 5 overs to go, but thankfully we got over
the line.
Well done to Cohen Mattner who won his second John Engelhardt medal.
B grade: 8 wins 3 losses. Finished the minor round in First position. Lost the
grand nal by 1 wicket.
Geoff Henry Buckets Lawson took charge of the B grade once again with
great success nishing on top, but just couldnt over the line against ICC.
Terry Moose Martin smashed 595 runs including 2 hundreds and the Skipper
himself 311 runs. The bowling honours again were taken by Ben Bunting
claiming 52 wickets, including 6 ve wicket hauls and 2 ten wicket hauls, the
captain again with 40 wickets and Moose with 27. Another nail biting grand
nal for the club, the boys nearly got over the line but ICC prevailed.
Congratulations to Terry Martin on winning the Tony Fromene Medal.
C grade: 3 wins 7 losses 1 draw. Finished the minor round in 9th position.
First year skipper Tony Ford enjoyed some success with a young side with
alot of promise.
He stepped up with bat to score 254 runs for the season, Darryl Broadbent
Hayden Bates both hitting 150+ for the year. 17 year old Mark Kouba led the
way with ball capturing 20 wickets with 2 ve wicket haul. The Alex Lewis
medal was won by Paul Wilson.
D grade: 3 wins 8 losses nished the minor round in 10th position.
Another rst year skipper Wayne Hall, never had a settled side, using 35
players, but they all had a dip and enjoyed the year.
Ethan Ericson who is 16 and only playing 4 games smashed 250 runs
including 190 against Western youth. Dave Walczac 179 and 14 year Wayne
Ericson 150.
With the ball Paul Wilson took 22 wickets and Matty Champagne Murnane
14 wickets.
Corey Ford dominated the elding. The Doug Fleming Medal was won by
Tony Ford.
E grade: Won 5 lost 6. Finished the minor round in 8th position.
Karl Quirk again put his hand up for captaincy. The side was competitive
throughout the year, but unfortunately didnt make the nals. The only man
to have a clothing sponsor, Alex Puma Staszuk, blasted his way to 386 runs
with Trent Payne 202. The bowling was a battle between seven players with

This year was another mixed bag for the Rams, we started strongly beating
some high calibre teams but lost a few games that we should have won
leading to us just missing out on the nals. Still this is an impressive feat
for a team that had an average age of over 40 for most games. We all look
forward to improving on this with an average age of 41 next season.
The number one and two bowlers for the team were El Presidente Bob and Mr
Finger Paynter with 20 and 18 wickets respectively whilst BensonnEdges at
number 3, and close to a quarter of their combined age, managed a decent
18 wickets. These top three were followed, at a respectful distance, by Croz
(10) , Cam(8) and Temporary Party Shelter(5) and then there is the long tail of
small but signicant wicket taking performances. If only Cam was allowed to
bowl more there is no doubt that he would have taken 35 to 40 wickets and
we would have won the premiership.
When we failed, we failed big, and that seemed to be, unusually, with the
bat this year. Mr Finger topped the batting honour roll with some natty
hitting garnering him 292 runs at an average of 32.44. Bob then followed in
a different sort of number two position with a possible career best aggregate
of 191. The best single game performance of 117 and 7 sixes, taking the
Hammer trophy, was by the Wade, although after that performance we had

to ask him to leave and never embarrass us again. The Croz featured highly
at number 3 in the batting aggregate (142) with at least one game winning
innings and a hack score of 8 followed closely by the Cun (141) who loved
every minute of it. Colin cum lately contributed spectacularly and gritttily
in one particular game for a highscore of 58, nishing with an average of
79 which hopefully will bring him and his physio back for a full year next
season. Guy & Richie came 7th and 8th in the batting but disappointingly no
sightings of the Madonna were forthcoming. Hammer was missing a bit of
yammer with only 2 innings for 22. Big Ds form was betrayed by his stats
whilst Jamie teased us with a one time performance of 37.
The prestigious Padded Elbow elding trophy, proudly sponsored by
Nappy San, was taken out by Richi with a dive rating of 5.9 but was hotly
contended by RamBrant, MrMcCleary and the Cam. The battle for the COY
boys was a ding dong one but in the end The Finger triumphed with 602
magical points over the Bob.
So many others contributed I could go on and on, and I will; Poochie, Spleen,
TobyOne, Ted, Spleen, Banger, Bowie, Gav, Mini Spleen, Passenger, Bridger,

Thanks to all for continuing the tradition of the Rams making it an extremely

played off in the grand nal. We unfortunately were beaten by two wickets in
a very tense and close encounter. Congratulations Western Youth Centre.
Congratulations to Danny Giersch on attaining player life membership of the
Association after having played over 250 games.
The B Grade captained by Paul Mitsigeorgis started well and at the
Christmas break was well situated and looked like participating in the
nals. After Christmas the side did not continue with its early form and only
managed one win in the New Year. At the end of the minor Paul announced
his retirement congratulations Paul on a magnicent career.
Craig Smith captained our C Grade and they managed three wins before
Christmas but like the B Grade failed to have a win in the New Year. The
number of changes from week to week made it difcult to settle a batting
line up.
Rik Morris captained our D Grade and to their credit they elded a full team
every game. This team provided the only century maker for the season (David
Mullighan) and a hat trick (Liam Golding). The team had mixed success but if
keenness is any guide they are winners.
Special thanks to our sponsors for their support during the season Morphett
Arms Hotel, Good Vibrations, Miden Pty Ltd, Dean Leyson Mowing, your
support is very much appreciated. Thank you to all trophy donors.

The 28th season of St George Cricket Club saw the A grade nish minor premier
in Section 4 (10 wins 1 loss) bowing out in the semi nal with the B grade taking
7th position in Section with 6 wins and 5 losses. The re-establishing of the C
grade lost from the previous season never eventuated - short to medium term
the club looks to consolidate the A and B grades whose overall position looks
to be one of strength.
The A grade by most measures had an outstanding season but again at the
business end were found short. Years of cricket has taught us there is no
precise formula to winning ags but resilience at the club and individual level is
one criterion that may pay the ultimate dividend.
Congratulations to Scott Keeley for leading the side exceptionally well again,
leading the batting with 435 runs and scoring an undefeated century against
Morphettville Park III. Mikey Szczepanik (335), Layton Gould (326) and Michael
Haydon (312) also had outstanding seasons. On the way, Layton Gould and
Michael Haydon also reached their 2000 run milestone. James Walker won the
bowling trophy with 32 wickets and received tremendous backing from David
Baum (26), Nathan ONeil (23) and Andrew Broomhead (21). Andrew Broomhead
& David Baum picked up a 6 wicket hall while James Walker achieved a 5
wicket take. David Baum won the elding trophy while James Walker was voted
player of the year and nals. The Captains Medal was won by Nathan ONeil.
The B grade battled the season out well with some ne wins but would equally
disappoint with some crushing losses. Perhaps we saved our best to last with a
ne Round 11 win over nalists Hamilton. Paul Bradford won the batting trophy
with 289 runs and his 2000 run milestone while Kev Winning chalking up 260
145
- only modest offerings were found elsewhere. Bowling was hard work with
eventual trophy winner Chris Littleboy taking 20 wickets and Kevin Winning
(16) and Rajesh Kumar (15) providing some support. Kevin Winning completed
his 200th wicket for the club including a 6 wicket haul against Sheidow Park V,
Chris Littleboy completing a 5 wicket haul against Keswick III and in amazing
scenes Rajesh Kumar secured a hattrick against Western Youth Centre III - very
well done! The elding trophy was won by Chris Littleboy, player of
year to Kevin Winning and Rajesh Kumar being awarded the captains medal.
Many thanks to the efforts of Glynn Maloney in taking on the captains
role this season.
The signs of 2012-13 appear promising with both the A and B grades likely
to placed in Sections were they should be very competitive. Depth should be
improved by the return of some key players and again, the issue of players
taking responsibility for recruiting cannot be over emphasised.
Off the eld the club provides a very happy environment and is so unique in
its capacity to integrate players across a broad socio-economic spectrum and
is encouraging of all regardless of skill level. It is a tremendous attribute that
needs to be harnessed, maintained and enjoyed.
Thanks to Nathan ONeil for formulating the golden nuts days where club
members can ably demonstrate that cricket is not the only sport they are no
good at! I would like to thank the on-eld leaders and members of the committee
for their tireless efforts again this year. The club welcomed Rajesh Kumar,
Martin Frauenfelder, Jaiden Frauenfelder and Tony Wilson. All made notable
contributions; however, with only again 4 recruits we need to do better.
The Seven Stars Hotel provided generous sponsorship and we thank them for
their support, particularly at such late notice. They will be the Clubs major
sponsor in season 2012-13.
In line with the clubs continued agenda to play cricket in line with spirit of
the game the Spirit of Cricket Medal is again awarded. The criterion for the
medal is exceptional on-eld conduct that includes training. This years winner
is Richard Szczepanik. The Presidents Medal is awarded to Ashley Hunt for
his tremendous commitment and support to the club, particularly in securing
another grant that provides invaluable assurance to the clubs long term
nancial position. Finally, thanks to all 33 players who this year had a crack!

Sheidow Park Cricket Club report

Club Colours: Maroon and Gold
The 2011/12 season has been a curious mix of success and poor results. As
a committee, we have 2 basic charters consolidating the future of the club
through great planning and development and on eld success.
Off eld, we have had one of the most successful seasons in the history of
the club. The work done predominately by Mal Condon and Daniel Neal in
developing our major sponsorship program this year was superb.
The club shirts which provided great exposure for the club and our sponsors
were a visible and constant reminder of the broad reach that our club has in
our community. We have received many great pieces of feedback from our
sponsors and we thank all members and families for using our sponsors. As
we said all year, we dont want you spending more money, but spend your
money with those businesses who support us.
This was year one in a longer term program to help support our sponsors
businesses and greater nancial support to SPCC to further enhance our
nancial position.
Over the past few years, we have rebuilt the training facility at The Pit,
developed the Capella nets which is now predominately a community
facility, but a great back up if needed. We are also developing the ground
and pitch at The Pit which should be ready for next season. These activities
take considerable time and money and we have been incredibly successful
in obtaining government grants to support our activities.
One of the signicant reasons for our success in obtaining the grants
has been our progress towards becoming a Star Club. This is an ofcial
designation awarded to very few clubs by the ofce of Recreation and Sport
and recognises 5 key areas of a club:
1. Well Managed
2. Coaches and Ofcials
3. Volunteers Valued
4. Positive and Welcoming
5. Safe for All
These areas have a number of criteria under these headings which need
to be met to enable a club to be awarded Star Club status. SPCC are well
down the track and many components of the work have been completed,
particularly by Mal Condon, and the department have used this work as a
template for other clubs to follow.
As always, and we should never underestimate the amount of time and
energy that Galvy, Hargs and Fordy devote to this club. Their efforts every

week, almost every day, are unbelievable. Without these great people, we
simply would not have a club, let alone the great club that we know today
which is preserved by their drive and efforts day in, day out, year in and year
out. Thank you gentlemen.
As a group, the committee has done an excellent job in many areas however we
do need to address a number of off eld aspects in coming seasons.
Support for club social activities need to be improved. As you would expect,
we have a number of ideas for next year to enhance the social side of our
club which is so important and very much the fabric of our club but we need a
total commitment from all players, family members, both senior and juniors, to
maximise the enjoyment factor.
Our on eld performances were well short of expectations. We have maintained
a high level of performance for many years so to have only 1 side making the
nals in our home and away competition is simply not good enough.
We showed that our A Grade were capable of competing with the best for
times of a game and their performance all year in the 20/20 competitions were
extremely good. This culminated in winning the ASCA 20/20 Premiership.
Congratulations to Sam Foster for captaining this team and to all of our players
who contributed to this success from game 1 through the 3 competitions and
eventually to the Premiership.
From the junior perspective, we saw a great development in the kids cricket
skills and I would like to personally thank all of the mums and dads who
supported the coaches with scoring, catering, umpiring, training etc. Its not
always easy to get up early on a Sunday morning but we know the kids love it.
Garry Harding did a superb job in starting and driving the U17s this year and
their performances were commendable against much stronger teams and often
on turf pitches which was a new experience for many.
As a club, we need to revisit our on eld structure for next season so we will
plan for this and present options for our AGM.
Finally, thank you to our committee, captains, junior coaches and all volunteers
who worked tirelessly throughout the year. Most of the work goes unnoticed
and unrecognised but I can assure you all that you are the lifeblood of our
club.

spirit evidenced by the pressure on spots each week. Paul Askew again did
a great job as Captain. We were in contention for the top 4 throughout the
season, with a nal positions still possible in the last game.
The batting was led by our opening pair Scott Prettejohn and Anthony Pilgrim
in tight competition for leading runs, and were unable to be separated at the
end of the year both nishing with 346 runs. Bowling was very competitive
with Paul Askew again pipping Lee Bishop for the trophy with 24 wickets.

drove us to a memorable season. We took strides in engaging our members
past and present generating much goodwill within our local community and
partners. An improved training environment and structure saw new and
existing players thrive in record numbers.
Through the success of our 2 major social functions, a T20 versus
Edwardstown Football Club and with the wonderful support of all our
stakeholders and friends; we were in the privileged position to donate over
$5,000 to the Movember, McGrath and Leukaemia Foundations. A small
contribution in the scheme of things, but an aspect of our club we can be
proud of and look to build in coming years.
We succeeded in our aspiration of elding 4 sides for the full season,
achieved by our hard working management and the proactive and inclusive
efforts of our captains, Adam, Nick, Luke and James. Special credit is
afforded to Anthony Ross as Chairman of Selectors, who transformed a
difcult, vital role into smooth and effective one for the club.
Our on-eld heights arrived in our restoration to Section 1 nals cricket and
participation in the ASCA T20 Tournament Grand Final. Congratulations to
Adam Willson and his sides for their achievements.
Nick Cruise was rewarded for his outstanding year as the SRCC Club
Champion with the ASCA Section 2 Bowling Award. Well done Adam Hartlett,
Anthony May and Shaun Krutli in representing the Senior Association side
with Anthony and Shaun going on to make the SAMCA Team of the Year.

Driven by our desire for ongoing improvement coupled with our responsibilities
to serve our community and members South Road embarks on a period

meet these exciting challenges head on in honour of our rich history and the
individuals that have given so much over our 73 year journey.
Good luck to all who bowl or strike a ball in anger in our great game over

Season 2011-12 was all in all a successful season for the Southern Cricket
Club. The A Grade nished the minor round in 2nd position, unfortunately
losing the Section 3 Semi Final to ICC Sharks.
The top order had a strong season with plenty of useful contributors, Paul
Karittevlis leading the way with 2 centuries and 3 fties for a total of 529
runs. Thanks to our new A Grade Captain, Chris Thredgold.
Our B Grade had a mixed season in the new 7 + 7 competition.

WARRADALE CRICKET CLUB
Club colours : green & gold
Founded 1979/80
Warradale Cricket Club had limited success in its 33rd season with the A
Grade winning only 3 games in Division 2 to nish 9th, the B Grade yet
again battling to compete in Division 3 to nish second bottom for the fourth
successive season and the C Grade the only highlight to make the semi nal
to end in 3rd position.
The A grade unfortunately lost some key players and had a series of injuries
during the season resulting in difculties in making winning scores. We won
2 of the rst 3 games, including a good win against semi-nalist Morphy
Parks in Round 3. However, in that game captain Kristian Sarge Schultz
was concussed and badly injured when he went for a quick single and
spectacularly but accidently crashed into the bowler. He missed the next 5
games. We were competitive in all games with the bowlers doing well but
the batsmen mostly struggled from Round 4 we made 6 scores between
107 and 166 which was not enough. Vice Captain Wes Lipsett won his 3rd
successive batting trophy whilst outswing bowler Rowan Williams in his rst
A Grade season not only won the bowling trophy but also pulled of the
prestigious Cricketer of the Year, much to his only amazement. Josh Deniet
emerged as an outstanding young talent with 16 wickets and 129 runs.
The B Grade battled extremely hard but, similar to the A Grade, simply could
not make enough runs an average score of 151 was insufcient. We won
the rst and last game but had no victories in between. However, we did
not give up in any game and did not lose any game outright and in fact won
the last game outright against a young Sheidow Park team. The Cs were
well led by Dave Palmer who won his fourth club elding trophy (a record)
as well as the batting trophy. Dave hit great form at the end of the season
with 86* and 78 and wished the season could have gone on. Ash Marshall
won the bowling trophy and was runner up to the Cricketer of the Year for
an incredible 6th time (to go with his two wins). Nineteen year old pace
bowler Jacob Matthews improved astronomically during the season to take
20 wickets. Early season he bowled too short and got belted around but
learnt the value of pitching the ball up after Christmas to yield a remarkable
turnaround in results.
The C Grade, under veteran Andrew Winner Conley, made the nals for
the 2nd time in 3 seasons. Winner became an early season media star when
the Messenger Press published a huge half page article on his amazing run
spree of 0 (how did that get in there!), 163*, 68*, 16, 30* and 120* - 397 runs
@ 198.5. Winner won his 3rd successive batting trophy and Joel Wilkin won
156
his 10th bowling trophy, his rst in C Grade (3 A Grade, 6 B Grade). Wilkin
was well backed up by George, Truscott, Green (all 16 wickets), erce left
armer Huckstepp (15 wickets) and leg spinner Browne (11 wickets).
By making partnership of 238* in Round 2 vs South Road, Winner Conley
(163*) and Grant Craigie 109*) broke the all time wicket record of 228* held
since 1982/83 by Brian Conroy and Bob Noble.
The most outstanding achievement of the season occurred when Peter
Shoe Hughes played his 300th game in Round 4, the 3rd Warradale player
to do so. By season end Shoe had played 243 games in succession and has
not missed a game since Round 1 in 1991/92, an incredible 21 seasons. He
played 300 out of a possible 302 games. As a hard hitting batsman Shoe has
scored 6076 runs @ 21 with 3 centuries, 27 fties and 40 sixes. Shoe holds
the club record for (1) the most number of eld catches of 156, mostly in the
slips and some in the outeld and (2) the most number of ducks 37! Shoe
is the Club Statistician and has been the major contributor to the famous
WCC Year Books since 1991/92. Shoe spent the equivalent of 6 months full
time in 1991 creating a software program, inputting data from every game,
including every scoring stroke and every over ever bowled. As a result we
have 200 tables of statistics in every WCC Year Book and we believe the
best records of any club in the universe.
Two players thoroughly deserved being awarded Life Memberships of the
Club. David Brown, the 17th Life Member - 18 seasons, 166 games, 1829
runs, 271 wickets, 66 catches (5 as keeper), 2 premierships, 3 years on
Management Committee, 7 years Chair of Selection Committee, 3 years as
D Grade Captain and 4 years as C Grade Vice Captain, 7 C and D Grade
bowling trophies and 9 other trophies.
Medium pace bowler, solid middle order batsman, good gully eldsman.

grade), 3181 runs, 30 wickets, 43 catches as a eldsman, 78 caught &
8 stumped as keeper, 2 Cricketer of the Year Awards, 1 A Grade batting

WESTERN YOUTH CENTRE CRICKET CLUB
Club Colours: Green and Gold
Founded: 1961
Our club celebrated its 50th year this year in great style with the A grade winning
the grand nal and completed only our second back to back premierships in
our history. The rst time since the 1985/86 season. We conrmed our position
as a very good side and one that other clubs strive to beat. Hopefully this is
something we can start to have lter down the grades and become an even
stronger club.
We had a fantastic celebration of the clubs 50 years in September 2011 with
over 150 attending the night which saw people who helped found the club to the
current people involved with the club share their stories. Mark Whenan, Craig
Hossack, Mike Hossack, Steve Rechner, Steve Baily and Barry Luke did a great
job of making the night a success with their planning for the 2 years prior to the
night. The club also had a team of the rst 50 years and thankfully we were able
to have 10 of the 11 players present on the night.
Robbie Hopkins led the A grade superbly again this year, his efforts with both
bat and ball led the way in a positive manner which certainly made the side feel
as though anything was possible from any position within a game. We showed
our depth is improving with more debutants in the A grade this year and those
players showed us they were capable of the step up which will hold us in good
stead for the future.
Thomas Fiebiger had the task of leading the b grade this year and did a fantastic
job by having them nish 5th for the 3rd time in the last 4 years. He led the side
well and with a bit of luck would have had his side playing nals. He, along with
Glenn and Lee, felt the impact of the unavailability of people from the higher
grades throughout the year and this no doubt had a signicant impact on where
they nished. Glenn Butler, took on the task of the C Grade captaincy after the
original appointment of Bill Likos had to call it a day due to work commitments.
Glenn did the job well and despite the large turnover of players managed to
improve the sides fortunes from last season in section 4. Lee Fuller again had
the job of the D grade captaincy and despite going up a section due to their
158
Grand Final nish last year competed well in all games with a very mixed side of
kids and elder statesmen.
Our efforts in the T20 this year were semi nalists in the ASCA T20 comp and we
were knocked out in the rst round of the SAMCA cup competition.
Neville Linke again stepped up to help co-ordinate the junior program again
this year and certainly improved the system from what we had last year. Craig
Hossack, John Foster-Borg and Jayne Allen also contributed signicantly to the
improvement of our junior program. I hope we can continue to get more helpers
for our junior cricket as it is the future of our club. To all the coaches who worked
hard throughout the year I congratulate you on the work you did this year and
look forward to you doing the same next year.;
Well done to all who helped on the semi and grand nal weekends to ensure we
had food to sell and whilst at it made the club a few dollars.
Our sponsors have continued to be of great support for the club; however we
are always looking for more so if you know a business that may be interested
please speak to either Jayne or myself. Adelaide Airport has continued their
association with the club and we are very grateful of it. West Adelaide Football
Club has once again been the clubs major sponsor and venue for our after match
presentations. We welcomed Hyde Park Press and Pete Lianos as sponsors this
year and we look forward to a continuing relationship with both of them.
The committee has again, in the main, worked hard for the benet of the club
and I look forward to those efforts continuing into the future. Thanks must also
go to Kevin Joseph and the WYC management for their support throughout
the year,

Woodcroft Cricket Club
Club Colours: Skye Blue / Black
Established 2001
Woodcroft Cricket Club had another fairly successful year, with our A Grade
runners up in the section four nal. We had a very consistent season being
around the top four for most of the season in a tight competition.
Our players all had even years with no one letting the side down and
performing to high standards. There we had a few notable performances
over the year from Simon Reeves bowling extremely well and taking out
our bowling trophy. Also in a tight tussle Steve Wilson eventually won the
batting trophy. We look forward to another successful year in 2012-2013 and
hopefully taking out another premiership. Thank you to all the supporters
and players for their effort and we look forward to the coming year.
Woodcrofts B Grade had a fairly disappointing season with only one win for
the season. This can be attributed to players not being available all year and
when we did have a full side we didnt perform to our ability.
We did have a number of great performances especially a two hundred from
Luke Goldner who took out the batting and bowling trophies and won the
club champion award.
Adrian Hill, Mark Moriarty, Bob Wheatley and Rick Wheatley were also
consistent however the rest of our side were in and out of the game, in
saying this, if our side performs consistently we should have an improved
season next year. Thanks to all the players and supporters for all their
efforts, also thanks to Peter Ryan for placing the scores each week and we
look forward to success next season. Special thanks to our major sponsor
Woodcroft Tavern for their continual support.
