28.05.13(Tuesday) -Arrival On 28th May 2013, 38 youth participants comprising of 19 male and 19 female from five Partners centres arrived at ASHA Holy Cross along with the Coordinators to participate in the Youth seminar. The theme for the seminar was Youth for a Change. 29.05.13(Wednesday) On 29th morning at 09.00am the seminar began by welcoming the Chief Guest Shri. Balaram Shil, DIG of Central Reserved Police Force (CRPF) which was followed by the inauguration of the programme through the lighting of lamp by the chief guest and Fr. Robert Mathias, Director of ASHA. The Director warmly welcomed the Chief Guest and the participants and encouraged them to make use of the opportunities and become efficient leaders in near future. He also stated that the project aims at uplifting the two downtrodden and most backward tribal communities of Reang and Adhivasi communities in the state and highlighted the success of the project implemented in the past 2 years and the future plans of the project. The Chief Guest in his address motivated the youth to be the effective and exemplary leaders with commitment and integrity in their day today activities. And also urged them to motivate the young friends to realize the God given strengths to seek opportunities rather than wait for, in order to achieve our set goals and to make our life successful. As youth we should acquire adequate knowledge regarding the current situations day today happenings in and around the world which would indeed help us to adjust to the situations for the bright future. Leadership In a short while after the inaugural programme the Resource person of the day Mr. T.C. Francis Uchoi had begun his first session on the topic leadership and the qualities of Leadership. Ground rules were made and he had emphasized to follow them up for the better progress of the sessions. He said the ground rules are very important as they enable us to gather the knowledge and matter being shared during the sessions. Then he began with the meaning of each letter of LEADERSHIPfor what quality it stands for as L -for Love or Lead, E Example, A- Aim, D- for determination, E- for Excellence, R- for Responsibility, S- Social sense, HHelpful, I- for Intelligence and P- Patience and Perseverance.
The second session was precisely focused on the differences between a traditional leader and a peoples leaderand their nature of leading and constructing the society. The motivational games related to the topic had strengthened their capacity of understanding and grasping the importance. Group discussions during the last two sessions had made them understand the need of being a peoples leader is much greater than being a traditional leader for the construction of the society. And such a leader should possess the leadership qualities as part of their life and execute better services for the better development of the society, said the resource person. At the end of the day there was an evaluation on the activities of the day, wherein most of the participants had shared that this was the ever first time for them to attend such training. Many had assured that they would keep up the learning for the development of their life and also the society they belong to. 30.05.13 (Thursday) Topic- Right to Health and Human Trafficking The 2nd day of the youth program had two primary topics of Right to Health and Human Trafficking. Mr. Birolal Jamatia, the programme Manager of the project handled the session. The session was begun with a prayer song. He discussed on the on the topics concerned with Right to Health and basic elements that are necessary for good health. He explained the implied provisions available for the right to health under Art 21 of the Indian constitution though not expressively mentioned for the right to health as fundamental rights. He also explained the implementation of RTI in case of violation of certain prescribed rights and freedom. The discussion on family planning and matured marriage motivated the participants to a larger extent to understand the complications. The other important point emphasised was on the probable complications of a pregnant woman and the necessity of proper care and guidance during pregnancy . In order to make obvious the objectives and the concept he used power point presentations, video clippings, short stories etc. More specifically a short video clippings on the uncared and neglected pregnant woman who died at the end without proper and timely care and medication had embarrassed the participants to take into stronger consideration of the pregnant woman in their families and in the village. During the post lunch session the focused topic was Human Trafficking and the resource person was Ms. Debbie Halam, Asst. Program Manager of the project. She in her session had enlightened the most important issues at the contribution of poverty for human trafficking and other immoral and anti-social activities that we come across in our surroundings. Then the
highlight was on the cause of prostitution and its effects on the society though it earned the livelihood of the prostitutes with huge and handsome amount of money flow. She handed over a questionnaire to the participants in view of understanding the causes of prostitution and the insecurity of a girl child than a boy child. Based on the answers given by the group, she explained the causes to the immoral acts. Evaluation At the end of the sessions on 31st May 2013 there was a general Evaluation on the seminar. In order to make the evaluation a venture for future learning all the five centers were asked to present on different areas of the seminar. The Moharpara and ASHA groups had evaluated and shared on the topic leadership. The group said that it has given sufficient knowledge regarding the qualities that are necessary to become a good peoples leader. The Kathalcherra group had shared on the topic human trafficking and its causes. Their sharing vividly tells us that they were helped to avoid such situation and work for the eradication of human trafficking through the small steps through the project. Kamaranga and Gandacherra groups had discussed on the topic Right to health and shared that this is one of the prominent topics for a person to live a complete and consolidated life. It is a responsibility of each human being to understand the right to health and should feel that it is our right to live a healthy life. . Finally the youth seminar on the theme youth for a change had come to an end with a cultural program at 7.00pm in the evening where all the five groups had performed different folk items like dances, songs and dramas. Departure: On 31st morning all the participants had departed to their respective villages with full of knowledge and capacity to execute better services for the development of the society and to construct a healthy and wealthy society.
