What is the difference between confidence and over confidence?

According to me, these two words make a huge difference in themselves. For example as I have mentioned in my resume that I like to play chess so if in any game if I say that I will win that's my confidence while if I say that nobody can beat me that's my overconfidence means confidence is a positive trait while overconfidence is negative trait as I am underestimating other persons.

The mainly difference between the confidence and the over confidence is that. If a person doing any work with his overall concentration by taking all his confidence it makes him success but that work only if a person did all his over confidence by considering extra expectation it may that work will not succeeded that mean his not doing that work with full of his concentration but his thinking some expectation so that is the main reason why sometimes the over confidence leads to the man unsuccessful.

Confidence is a positive attitude to handle a situation or doing a work, and it helps in our growth, ex, in a team work, a confident person spreads great energy to other team members with his attitude, while overconfidence really hampers our growth, overconfident person try to initiate or be the boss type in a group never considering the talents of other group members, which mostly spreads a negative energy and discomfort to others, and the result will be negative too. So we can have I can do attitude but not I only can.

Hi, Confidence means that I m ready to do this thing but there is also a little fear in my mind that whether I will succeed or not. Over confidence means that I will surely do this. Then its depends upon the time or his experience, that he succeed or not. So its better to have an over confidence before starting any work rather to have a fear in our mind. :-). If someone succeeded in their work, people say that he was confident, but if not, then they say that he was over confident. So here we can say that people are there self not confident at the starting, that the person is confident or over confident. There is no instrument to measure confidence or over confidence. Now if we talk about the old story of mare and tortoise, here the mare was not over confident but was foolish. We should have over confidence to start but should not stop without succeeding our goal. Let us compare those terms with the terms used in "cricket". Confident is like throwing a line and length ball to the batsmen here bowler has at least 50 percent chances to get the wicket. While coming to the over confidence, it is like throwing ball in over height (bouncer) to the batsmen, here bowler has no chance to get the wicket.

Actually confidence and overconfidence are two faces of a Coin. At the initial point we can not decide whether this guy has a confidence or overconfidence, but if he/she succeeded in his/her task then people say he has confidence, but if he is fail in completing the task we say he has overconfidence. Actually confidence and overconfidence both are state of mind which show excitement before starting a work and its come in to mind because of capability and may be because of experiences in that field. Having overconfidence at the start is at least better than having fear in mind before doing any task.

Confidence is nothing but, If a person says that "I can do that or I will do that" so this is called confidence. So in this that person can achieve that and he or she can see the success in higher position. So when comes to overconfidence If person says that " he/she only the person can do that work/ thing" so usually that is called overconfidence. So in this stage person can not achieve the target. And same time he/she comes from the higher position to lower position.

Confidence is that condition wherein a person knows about his boundaries and know how to play within it. He will also be knowing about those which he can't do. If any situation occurs wherein he's given such a work then he will refuse. Over confidence is a condition wherein a person feels that he doesn't have any limits for his knowledge and experience. In such a state he'll accept those work which he might know a little about it or doesn't know at all.

According to me there is a little difference between confidence and overconfidence. Confidence comes from the feel I can do this. But if you feel I can only do this then it leads to overconfidence. For example I have confident to get this job it shows my confidence. If I have same confident to become CEO of this company for first time it leads to overconfidence. Confidence is necessary to a person to live in this competitive world but it won't become overconfidence.
