Introduction To Prism: Surface Area, S of Prism

Prism is a 3D geometric shape with two parallel and congruent bases that are triangles or polygons, and three or more faces that are rectangles. Prisms are used in packaging like Tablerone chocolate bars and in optics to refract and disperse light. The surface area of a prism can be calculated using the formula S = 2(Area of base) + Sum of the areas of the faces, and the volume using the formula V = Area of base x height. Prisms have many applications in packaging, construction, and optics.

INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION TO PRISM

Prism is 3-dimensional and geometrical object that has 2 triangular bases. The base is parallel to other base. It is consists of two triangular bases and three rectangular side. Prism is different to cuboid and cube due to it bases are triangle in shape.

There are formulas on how to calculate the surface area, S of prism and volume of prism : Surface Area, S of Prism = 2 1 x b x a + bc + ac + cd 2

Volume, V of Prism V = cross sectional Area, A x c

APPLICATION OF PRISM

APPLICATION OF PRISM

There are a lot of prism can be seen in application in our life. Prism can be seen in food production packaging. For example, Tablerone Chocolate that used prism boxes to pack the chocolates

Beside that, prism also used in scientific project which is used to refract and disperse light known as prism optics

Perimeter of Prism = 42 cm + 7 cm + 7 cm + 7 cm + 7 cm + 42 cm + 7 cm + 7cm + 7 cm + 7 cm = 2 (42 cm) + 8 (7 cm) = 84 cm + 56 cm = 140 cm

Area of Prism According to Phytagoras Theorem Hypothenuse, c = 2 + 2 a = 2 2 b= = 7cm

CONCLUSION

Prism is 3-dimensional and geometrical object that has length, height and width to be measured. By having length, height and width, the volume, perimeter and area can be measured easily using the formula given:

Surface Area, S of Prism : S = 2 ( x b x a) + bc + ac + cd

2

Volume of Prism, V of Prism : V = ross Sectional Area, A x c
