A DAY OF TEARS

ACT ONE FADE IN: INT. SHELLYs BEDROOM The bedroom is very neat with a single bed near a window. Shelly is crying, lying on her bed while looking down at a photograph of her with a boy. ZOOM IN TO PHOTOGRAPH INT. SHELLYs CLASSROOM. FLASH BACK Classroom is very neat with charts on the wall and noticeboard at the back. Class is in progress with teacher writing something on the board. Shelly is sitting at the back row staring at Jotame who is sitting at the far left in the front row. The boy behind Jotame passes him a note and he opens it. ZOOM IN TO NOTE The note is from Shelly asking Jotame for a meeting after class. Jotame looks back at Shelly and nod while mouthing a yes. Suddenly the bell rings. EXT. SCHOOL VERANDAH/CORRIDOR The place is crowded with students and Shelly is looking around when she finally spots Jotame. SHELLY Hey Joe! Wait up! Jotame is walking towards the Baka tree at the far end of the verandah and stops when he hears Shellys voice. He turns around and smiles when he sees her running to him.

When Shelly reaches Jotame they continue walking slowly to the Baka Tree JOTAME Hey! Hows life? Good? SHELLY Yes, life is fine. How about you?

The pair continue talking inaudibly while romantic music is heard in the background. EXT. SCHOOL GATE Shelly and Jotame are talking when Shellys father comes walking up the road. JOTAME Shelly look... (Pause) Seem like your dad is here. SHELLY Okay! Im leaving MOCE, mataka. Shelly leaves with her father, the pair walk down the road. Jotame keeps looking at Shelly. FADE OUT

ACT TWO ON SCREEN: THREE MONTHS LATER FADE IN: EXT. ON THE ROAD TOWARDS SHELLYS HOME The road is not tar sealed and houses are lined to one side. SHELLY is holding JOTAMEs hand as they walk towards her house and they are having inaudible conversation. Romantic music fills the air. They stop at one of the houses. SHELLYs home. SHELLY I wish we could be like this till the world ends. JOTAME and SHELLY smile at each other. SHELLY Okay then, I better get in before dad says something. JOTAME Alright, see you later SHELLY. JOTAME gives SHELLY a hug and starts to walk down the road. SHELLY Hey Joe!

JOTAME looks back at SHELLY. SHELLY (CONTD) (whisper) Call me. JOTAME Okay! Moce! SHELLY goes into her house while JOTAME continues down the road with a smile.

INT. SHELLYs ROOM - NIGHT Its night time. SHELLY is lying in bed sending a text message to JOTAME. ZOOM ON PHONE SCREEN INT. JOTAMEs ROOM JOTAME is sitting in his bedroom looking at Facebook on his laptop. ZOOM ON LAPTOP SCREEN ULAMILAs profile page is on the screen. His fone rings but he ignores it when he sees the number. INT. SHELLYs ROOM SHELLY is wondering why JOTAME is not answering the phone. ZOOM ON SHELLYs FACE. SHELLY then puts the phone aside and turns off the light.

FADE OUT.

ACT THREE FADE IN INT. CLASSROOM AFTERNOON/ LAST CLASS While class is in progress SHELLY is looking at JOTAME from the back row. The boy behind JOTAME passes him a note but he doesnt open it and shoves it under the desk. SHELLY looks on. The bell rings. School is out. EXT. BAKA TREE JOTAME and ULAMILA holding hands while talking. SHELLY walks towards them. SHELLY (angry) You think Im an idiot! JOTAME (surprised) Shelly SHELLY So this is what youve been doing. Tagane Duka! ULAMILA

Hey whats up with you? SHELLY Shut up! Boyfriend stealer! SHELLY and ULAMILA begin pulling each others hair. JOTAME intervenes. JOTAME Girls stop it. Shelly let me explain. SHELLY (crying) Get off me. You are no more in my life. SHELLY runs home crying INT. SHELLYs HOME - BACK TO THE PRESENT. NIGHT. SHELLY is crying, lying on her bed while looking down at a photograph of her with JOTAME. She tears the picture in half. FADE OUT.

ACT FOUR FADE IN EXT. CLASSROOM.BEFORE RECESS. While class is in progress JOTAME is looking at SHELLY.A note is passed to SHELLY but she shoves it into the desk and looks away. The bell rings for recess and the classroom becomes empty, only JOTAME and SHELLY remains. SHELLY gets up and moves to door JOTAME moves to SHELLY. JOTAME Shelly, let me explain.

SHELLY Explain what? I dont want any explanation from you. SHELLY sits down at the nearest chair and starts crying. JOTAME sits next to her. JOTAME Its not what you think. Ulamilas mom died three days ago and she needed someone to talk to. SHELLY (confused) Wait. What? Her mom died? Thats why you- And thats why she- I feel so stupid. JOTAME smiles and hugs SHELLY. SHELLY (smiling) Joe I think I need to go and apologize to Ulamila. Well she forgive me? JOTAME Yeah. She will. Come on recess is almost over. Lets go and find her. JOTAME and SHELLY go out the door holding hands. Romantic music fills the air. FADE OUT END
