TRANSLATION

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. By the Name of

Allah and peace of Allah on Mohammed (S.A.W.) and His sacred
progeny. I entrust all of my affairs to Allah to oversee and supervise;
indeed Allah watches over all of His servants. So then He protected
His chosen Prophet Muhammad from the cunning of the evil plans of
others. "There is no God But You, Glory belongs to You alone, indeed
I was amongst those who were unjust to the self.
So then We (Allah) answered his prayers and saved him from
grief and sorrow and thus do we always save the true believers.
Allah alone is enough for us to rely upon and He is the Most Trusted.
So they – the good doers - returned thanks for Allah’s grace and
thus, they were not touched by evil since they had Allah’s protection.
Whatever Allah wants to happen in the world will occur.
There is no independent power or strength except with Allah.
It is the will and determination of Allah which will triumph at all
times and not the will of the people. It is the will and determination
of Allah which will prevail even if the people hate this. The Sustainer
(Allah) is sufficient for me to rely upon over those who themselves
rely upon sustenance (from Allah). The Creator of everything - Allah -
is sufficient for me to rely upon over those who themselves are
created by Allah.
Whatever Allah wishes and not whatever the people wish. Suffices
the Patron rather Than the patronized. Suffices the Creator rather
than the creatures. Suffices the Giver rather than the given. Suffices
Allah the Patron of Worlds. Suffices the Sufficient from my inception,
The Infinite Sufficient suffices Allah, There is no Allah but He. I trust
Him and He is the Patron of the Great Arsh.

protect (me) from it; and any evil but that You repel it, an any of my

You grant it; O’ that Most Merciful, grant me my supplication, O’ the
Lord of the Worlds.

TRANSLATION

“O Allah! Surely, I have no knowledge of the main source of my

subsistence, and I seek it only through the passing thoughts that come to
my heart, and I wander about in cities searching for it, and I am
perplexed in regard to what I search for. I do not know whether it is in a
valley or in the mountains, in the earth or in the heavens, in the
continent or in the sea, and in whose hands it is, and from whom it is.
And surely I know that you have its Knowledge, and its sources are in
your hand, and you alone distribute it by your kindness, and you create
opportunities through your mercy. Oh Allah therefore bless Muhammad
and his progeny; and Oh Lord! Increase my sustenance, apportioned by
you, and make easy to search and the source near; and do not make me
strive in the search of what you have not decreed from my sustenance.
For, surely: your punishment is absolute and I need your mercy. Bless
Muhammad and his progeny and by your grace show generosity to your
slave, surely you are the most generous”.

SOME RECOMMENDED DUAS

Imam Jafar e Sadiq (a.s) has said, “ when a person recites the following ten times before
the sunrise and before the sunset every day, all his sins committed on that day will be
pardoned:

La ilaha il Allaho wahdahu la shareeka lahu lahul mulko wa lahul hamdo

yohi wa yumeeto wa yohi wa huwa hayyun la yamooto be yadahil khaire wa

huwa ala kulle shaiyin qadeer

13
Imam Mohammed Baqir (a.s.) has said, “ One who recites the Salawat on
Prophet Mohammed (as) and his progeny ten times at dawn and repeats the
following words

Subhan Allah ( 35 times)

La ilaha il Allah (35 times)

Alhamdu lillah (35 times)

And repeats the same at dusk, then he will be counted as those who are
busy supplicating to Allah throughout the day. And one who says allaho
Akbar a hundred times at dawn and at dusk, he will get Reward equal to
releasing a hundred slaves.

Imam Ali (as) has said that anyone who recited three times the following
words every morning and evening, then Allah will certainly enter him into
the Heaven:

Razaito billahi rabban wa bilislame deenan wa Muhammadin sal allaho alaihi

wa aalehi nabian wa bil qurane balaghan wa be aliyin imaman wa bil ausiayo

min wuldehe aayimatan

14
Namaz-e-Gufaila

The Prophet (pbuh) said, "Do not neglect the two rakat at the time of ghaflah (time of
inattentiveness), and they are between the Isha'ain prayers (maghrib/Isha).

Imam alBaqir (AS)said, "Iblees disperses his soldiers; the night soldiers after the sun sets
till the setting of twilight, and his day soldiers from dawn until the rising of the sun. The
Prophet used to say, "increase remembrance of Allah (dhikr) at these times, and seek
refuge in Allah from the evil of Iblees and his soldiers, and invoke the protection of Allah
for your young ones at these two hours for they are hours of inattentiveness (ghaflah)

783. Ghufayla prayers is one of the Mustahab prayers which is offered between Maghrib
and Isha prayers.

In its first Rak'at after Surah al-Hamd , instead of any other Surah, the following verses
should be recited:

dhulumati an la ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu mina'dhalimin fastajabna lahu
wa najjaynahu minal ghammi wa kathalika nunjil mu'minin. (21:87-88)

"And Dhun ‫ ـ‬Noon, when he went forth enraged and thought that We would have no
power over him; then he called out in the darkness: "There is no god but You, Glory be to
You, I was one of the unjust. " So We answered him, and delivered him out of grief. Thus
do We deliver the believers."

In the second Rak'at after Surah al-Fatiha , instead of other Surah, the following verse
should be recited:

"With Him are the keys of the unseen; none knows them but He . He knows what is on
the land and on sea; not a leaf falls, but He knows it. Not a grain in the earth's darkness,
not anything wet or dry, but it is in a book manifest."

And in Qunut this Dua be recited

Alla humma inni as'aluka bi mafatihil ghaybil lati la ya'lamuha illa anta an tusalliya
'ala Muhammadin wa Ali Muhammad wa an taf'al bi........... (here one should
mention his wishes).

15
‫اللهم اني اسالك بمفاتيح الغيب اللتي ل يعلمها ال انت ان تصلي على محمد وآل محمد وان تفعل بي‬
‫)وتطلب حاجتك‬.... )
"O'Allah! I ask You, by the keys of the unseen that none knows but You, to bless
Muhammad and his household, and do for me [ask for your wishes].

Thereafter, the following Dua should be read:

Allahumma anta waliyyu ni'mati wal qadiru 'ala talabati ta'lamu hajati fa as aluka
bihaqqi Muhammadin wa Ali Muhammadin 'alayhi wa 'alayhimussalamu lamma
qadhaaytaha li.
‫اللهم انت ولي نعمتي والقادر على طلبتي تعلم حاجتي فاسالك بحق محمد وآل محمد عليه وعيهم‬
‫السلم لما قضيتها لي‬

"O Allah! You are the guardian of my bounties, and the one able to grant my requests.
You know my needs, therefore I ask you by Mohammad and the Progeny of Mohammad,
blessings be upon him and them that you grant me it.

SALATUL LAYL(NAMAZ E SHAB)

MERITS

By praying Salatul-Layl one’s livelihood is increased, one passes easily

through “Sakaraat” (great and grueling pain a dying person suffers at the
time of death) and finds happiness in “Barzakh” (the Spiritual world where
the departed souls stay either in happiness or misery, until the Day of
Resurrection).

Imam Jaffar Sadiq (a.s.) quotes Imam Ali (as) as saying that the Prophet
(saww) said that a person who prays Salatul-Layl gets the following 24
kinds of benefits:

1. Secures Allah’s pleasure.

2. Makes friendship with Angels.
3. Is the Sunnat of the Prophets (a.s.)
4. Provides the means to pursue knowledge.
5. Constitutes the root of our faith.
6. Keeps one physically fit.
7. Drives Shaytan away.
8. Protects one from enemies.
9. Serves as a means of acceptance of one’s Duas and good deeds.
10.Increases one’s livelihood.
11. Intercedes with the Angel of Death.

23. Helps one crossing the Bridge of “Siraat” without any difficulty.
24. Forms the key to the Paradise.

The time for praying Salatul-Layl is from midnight (midnight is reckoned as

the time which is exactly half the time between sunset and the actual dawn)
to the time of Adhan for Fajr prayers. However, it can be prayed at anytime
after Isha prayers but it is better to pray during the last part of the night
near to the time of Fajr prayers. If it is not possible to pray after midnight
or before Fajr, then it can be prayed in the morning or any part of the day
with the niyyah (intention) of Qadha. It is better to pray with the niyyah of
Qadha during the day time than to pray in the early part of the night.

Note: According to Ayatullah Seestani, the time for Salatul-Layl is from

midnight to the Adhan time for Fajr prayers. However, it is better to pray
near the time of Fajr prayers. Anyone who finds it difficult to pray Salatul-
Layl after midnight can pray before midnight.

METHOD

Salatul-Layl is made up of eleven Rak’ats.

The first eight Rak’ats are prayed as normal in pairs of

two Rak’ats each with the niyyah of Nawafilatul-Layl.

The next two Rak’ats are prayed with the Niyyah of

Salatul Shaf’a.

The remaining one Rak’at is prayed with the Niyyah of

Salatul Witr.

In the last one Rak’at, Qunoot is recited before Rukuu and the
Salat is completed as usual with Tashahud and Salaam. The last
one Rak’at is prayed as follows:

Hold Tasbih in the right hand for keeping count of the dhikr
mentioned below to be recited.

Make Niyyah and say Takbiratul Ihram.

Recite: Surah Al-Hamd;

Surah Qul Huwallahu Ahad - three times;
Surah Qul-Audhubi Rabbil Falaq - once;
Surah Qul-Audhubi Rabbin Naas - once.

17
Note: If one does not know the last two Surahs mentioned above, then it is
sufficient to recite Surah Qul Huwallahu Ahad, three times.
.
Say Takbir and raise both hands for Qunoot.:-
You may recite any Dua. However, it is recommended to recite
the following Dua.

Laa ilaaha illallaahul Halimul ُ‫حِليْ ُم ا ْل َك ِريْم‬

َ ْ‫ل ال‬

And Who is the Sustainer of all the things in them, and between
them,

And all praise for Allah, the Sustainer of the worlds.

Then, while holding the Tasbih in the right hand, raise the left

following manner.

Continuing with the Qunoot, while still raising the left hand,
recite the following Istighfar seventy [70] times:

Continuing yet further while still raising the left hand, recite
three hundred [300] times: -

Following this, the following should be said once:

" Rabbigfirli warhamni wa tubalaiyyi,Innaka tawwaburrahim"
“Lord, please forgive me and have mercy upon me and turn
back towards me. Verily You are the Oft-Turning back, Most
Merciful”

Finally, complete the Salat in the normal way by going to

Rukuu’ followed by Sajdah, Tashahud and Salaam, ending
Salatul-Layl.

As a Ta’kibaat after the Salat, recite

Tasbih of Janabe Fatemah Zahra (a.s.),
