1. Source code
The source codes of the current LyX release (version 2.0.5.1) can be found here (also in tar.xz format). If you don't know what source code is, see thearticle in Wikipedia. The tarballs are gpg-signed.

2. LyX installers (binary versions)

Binary versions of LyX for installing in different operating systems can be found below or on the FTP site. The binaries are also gpg-signed.

2.1 Windows binaries (XP/Vista/7)

There are 2 Windows installer variants: Bundle: LyX-2.0.5.1-Bundle-2.exe (~200 MB) Download this one if you are a new user. It installs a fully functional and complete LyX setup including a LaTeX distribution and a bibliography manager. Installer: LyX-2.0.5.1-Installer-2.exe (~35 MB) Download this one if you already have an older version of LyX installed and you want to update it. This installer requires that LaTeX (MikTeX or TeXLive) already be installed. A binary for CygWin can be downloaded here: LyX-2.0.5.1-cygwin.tar.gz. In case the links above does not work, try this mirror. These installers will setup a complete LyX environment. For more information about Windows binaries, see our wiki page.

2.2 Mac OS X binaries

LyX for Mac OS X is available here: LyX-2.0.5.1+qt4.dmg. Before you install LyX you need to install a TeX system such as MacTeX. There is another binary built with Carbon: LyX-2.0.5.1+qt4-carbon.dmg. In case the links above do not work, try this mirror. See the LyX/Mac wiki page for further installation tips.

2.3 Linux binaries

Major Linux distributions take care of LyX binaries themselves and you will find LyX in their repositories. For more details about your distribution look in our wiki.

For Ubuntu users, Liviu Andronic maintains a stable PPA (Personal Package Archive) and a daily PPA which contain up-to-date versions of LyX. See the LyX on Ubuntu wiki page for information and instructions. The versions of LyX on a variety of Linux distributions (as shipped with the vanilla distribution) can be seen on the snippet below. Note, however, that most distributions provide newer versions than the listed ones via upgrade services. lyx 2.0.5.1 -2.0.3 2.0.5 1.6.7 2.0.5.1 2.0.3 2.0.4 2.0.4 2.0.3

2.0.2

2.4 OS/2 binaries

LyX has unofficial ports to OS/2, binaries are here (LyX 1.6.7).

2.5 Haiku binaries

LyX has unofficial ports to Haiku, binaries are here (LyX 2.0.0).

3. Additional Software
If you're not using one of the installers or packages, you may need to install some additional software.

4. Version numbers
There are certain rules how the LyX version numbers are assigned. Read the following page for detailed information.

6. Mirrors
Please use one of the ftp mirrors below in case ftp://ftp.lyx.org is overloaded or down. (Greece) (Japan) Uniwersytet Warszawski (Poland) Cybermirror.org (Germany) Universiteit van die Vrystaat (South Africa)

7. Checksums & signing

We provide gpg-signed tarballs and binaries. Our GPG key ID is C7FB382D (LyX Release Manager). The signatures are found next to the tarballs and binaries. To verify a tarball with GnuPG, do this: gpg --recv-keys 0xDE7A44FAC7FB382D to receive the key (only needed once), and gpg --verify lyx-2.0.5.1.tar.gz.sig to check the signature (or any another signed file you want to verify). Watch out for the "Good signature..." string.

8. Development versions
Please do not use these for any serious work! They are only provided for testing and development purposes. Pre-releases Git repository
