Appendix 5 Cost Estimates: Facility Costs

The document provides cost estimates for various elements involved in establishing railway crossings for pathways. It lists estimated costs in 1995 dollars for items like flashing lights, gates, fencing, paving, drainage, signage, lighting, and clearing sightlines. Basic clearing and grubbing of an area is estimated to cost $130 per square meter while felling larger trees is estimated at $500,000. Annual maintenance costs for an at-grade crossing are estimated to vary while a subway structure would cost $1,100,000 or more to construct initially. The appendix also provides some product information on specific railway crossing components from various manufacturers.
