Indian Standards on Light Emitting Diode (LED)

1. IS 16102 (Part 1): 2012 General Lighting - LEDs & LED modules Terms & definitions. This technical specification presents terms and definitions relevant for lighting with LED light sources. It provides both descriptive terms (such as built-in LED module) and measurable terms (such as luminance). 2. IS 16102 (Part 1): 2012 Self ballasted LED Lamps for General Lighting Services Part 1 Safety requirements. This standard (Part 1) specifies the safety and interchangeability requirements, together with the test methods and conditions, required to show compliance of LED lamps with integrated means for stable operation (self-ballasted LED lamps), intended for domestic and similar general lighting purposes having:a) A rated wattage up to 60 W; b) A rated voltage of d.c. supplies up to 250 V or a.c. supplies up to 1 000 V at 50 Hz; and c) Capacitor current according to standards as per IS. 3. IS 16102 (Part 2): 2012 Self ballasted LED Lamps for General Lighting Services Part 2 Performance Requirements. This standard (Part 2) specifies the performance requirements for self-ballasted LED lamps with a d.c. supplies up to 250 V or a.c. supplies up to 1000 V at 50 Hz, together with the test methods and conditions, required to show compliance with this standard, intended for domestic and similar general lighting purposes, having:a) A rated wattage up to 60 W; b) A rated d.c. supplies up to 250 V or a.c. supplies up to 1 000 V at 50 Hz; and c) A lamp cap according to IS 16102 (Part 1): 2012 Self-ballasted LED lamps for general lighting services: Part 1 Safety requirements. 4. IS 16103 (Part 1): 2012 LED modules for General Lighting Safety Requirements. This standard does not cover self-ballasted LED-lamps that intentionally produce tinted or coloured light neither does it cover OLEDs. When applied for replacement purposes, the

only dimensional feature provided by the standard is information on maximum lamp outlines. However, this standard (Part 1) specifies general and safety requirements for light-emitting diode (LED) modules: a) LED modules without integral control gear for operation under constant voltage, constant current or constant power; and b) Self-ballasted LED modules for use on d.c. supplies up to 250 V or a.c. supplies up to1000 V at 50 Hz.

5. IS 16104: 2012 d.c. or a.c. Supplied Electronic Control Gear for LED Modules Performance Requirements.

This standard specifies performance requirements for electronic control gear for use on d.c. supplies up to 1000 V and a.c. supplies up to 1000 V at 50 Hz with an output frequency which can deviate from the supply frequency, associated with LED modules according to IS 16103 (Part 1) : 2012 LED modules for general lighting: Part 1 Safety requirements. Control gear for LED modules specified in this standard are designed to provide constant voltage or current. Deviations from the pure voltage and current types do not exclude the gear from this standard. 6. IS 16105: 2012 Method of measurement of Lumen Maintenance of Solid State Light (LED) Sources. This standard covers the method of measurement of lumen maintenance of LED packages, arrays and modules only. This test method is primarily intended to permit reliable comparison of test results among laboratories by establishing uniform test methods. It addresses the measurement of lumen maintenance testing for LED light sources designed and certified to meet lighting industry standards. Performance of the light sources covered in this standard in a particular application may be different. The method described in this standard does not provide guidance or make any recommendation regarding predictive estimations or extrapolation for lumen maintenance beyond the limits of the lumen maintenance determined from actual measurements. It does not attempt to induce any failure modes other than the maintenance of lumen output.

7. IS 16106: 2012 Method of Electric and Photometric Measurements of Solid State Lighting (LED) Products This standard covers the procedures to be followed and precautions to be observed in performing reproducible measurements of total luminous flux, electrical power, luminous intensity distribution, and chromaticity, of solid state lighting (SSL) products commonly LED products for illumination purpose, under standard test conditions. This standard does not cover fixtures designed for SSL products sold without a light source. The photometric information typically required for SSL products is total luminous flux (lumens), luminous efficacy (lm/W), luminous intensity (candelas) in one or more directions, chromaticity coordinates, correlated colour temperature, and colour rendering index. 8. IS 16108 : 2012 Photo biological Safety of Lamps and Lamp systems This International Standard gives guidance for evaluating the photo biological safety of lamps and lamp systems including luminaires. Specifically it specifies the exposure limits, reference measurement technique and classification scheme for the evaluation and control of photo biological hazards from all electrically powered incoherent broadband sources of optical radiation, including LEDs but excluding lasers, in the wavelength range from 200 nm through 3000 nm. 9. IS 15885 (Part 2/Sec 13) : 2012 Lamp Control Gear Part 2 Particular Requirements Section 13 d.c. or a.c. Supplied Electronic Control Gear for LED modules This standard (Part 2/Sec 13) specifies particular safety requirements for electronic control gear for use on d.c. supplies up to and including 1 000 V and a.c. supplies up to and including 1 000 V at 50 Hz and at an output frequency which can deviate from the supply frequency, associated with LED modules. Control gear for LED modules specified in this standard are designed to provide constant voltage or current at SELV or higher voltages. Deviations from the pure voltage and current types do not exclude the gear from this standard.
