Mathcad - AB Design

1) The document summarizes the design assumptions and calculations for anchor bolt design according to ACI 318-08 and CSA standards. Tension is assumed to be equally distributed among anchors, while shear is assumed in one bolt. 2) The calculations check the anchor bolt size and embedment depth for tension, shear, pullout resistance, and interaction equations. Reinforcement size and development lengths are also checked. 3) All checks are shown to meet the requirements for the provided pedestal geometry and rebar details. Tension, shear, pullout resistances and development lengths are sufficient. Embedment depth and longitudinal rebar depth also meet the required values.

Anchor Bolt Design (Per ACI 318-08 and " Design of Reinforcement in Concrete

Pedestals" CSA Today, Vol III, No. 12)

Desi gn Assumpti ons: Base Uni ts and Desi gn
Data:
Tension is equally distributed among all anchors. 1.
Shear force is assumed to be carried by only 1 bolt. 2.
No sleeve is used for anchor bolts. 3.
The tension and shear forces are transferred to the longitudinal rebars and shear 4.
reinforcement respectively, which will restrain the concrete failure prism.
Therefore, concrete breakout strength in tension and shear (per sections D5.2
and D 6.2) is not checked.
The concrete pryout strength (per section D6.3) is usually critical for short and 5.
stiff anchors and hence is assumed OK in this case.
