Betrayal in a Nutshell
(The Great Mountains)
The past may be an intricate part of me
But I need not let it crucify me
- Lili Dauphin
What is it like to be betrayed
By someone whom you trust?
First you’re in denial then dismayed
Then, emotions begin their thrust
1
You cannot eat, sleep or drink
Because of the pain inside
Your mind will start to slowly sink
You will want to run and hide
2
You will cry, cry, cry, cry and cry
Until you run out of tears
Your eyes get totally dry
As you’re shaking with fears
3
Your heart will feel very sad
And you will wonder why
Your spirit will feel so bad
That you would want to die
4
You will become so skinny
Your friends would want your diet plan
Your rapid weight loss may face scrutiny
By others in your clan
5
You’ll end up at work in your pajamas
Wondering why others look at you funny
You’ll cry for your mamas
Who will think you’re crazy
6
Your dog will take you to the pound
And wish you’d stay forever
She’d dislike the way you sound
And reply to you “whatever”
7
Your boss will mistake your face
For that of his mother-in-law
Your facial grimace
Will hold us all in awe
8
You‘ll find yourself on the moon
Wondering how you got there
You’ll think you’re on your honeymoon
In fact, you could be anywhere
9
You will take a trip to the store
In your birthday suit
Leaving your reputation at the door
You’ll soon realize your mind is left en route
10
You will become so astonished
You’ll forget your only name
Old memories leave you admonished
And new ones shape your shame
11
You may blame your mother
For your frustration
Then you’ll forgive her
And blame her again for her objection
12
In fact, you’ll blame everyone
Dead, dying or alive
Your attitude will take a new tone
One that may affect anyone
13
Especially those you know
It’s just your way
Of dealing with such pain inflow
Sometimes, you may not even have a say
14
You will lose your ability to think
You will feel woozy
Now that hope is on the blink
And life becomes a frenzy
15
You will feel as though
A storm has taken over your soul
It will move very slow
With mayhem as a goal
16
You will become very sensitive
Because of the impact on your ego
You will appear quite pensive
Reeling from vertigo
17
Your so-called friends
May very well know
And circulate your pain in the wind
With gossips and rumors to follow
18
You’re usually the last to know anyway
So, don’t feel bad if you’re not told
Who would admit to a foray
Where everything is cold?
19
You will swim in turbulent glee
While reality flip into fantasy
You’ll want to climb a high tree
To save your privacy
20
Most people who are betrayed
Don’t want others to know
They would rather hide away
To recover from the blow
21
You will feel as small as a pea
And as ashamed as an urn
Your self-esteem might request a fee
With no agreement to return
22
But you have to believe
That you’re good enough
In yourself, you must believe
Even when things are tough
23
You may become hollow
While you work through your emotions
You might look mellow
To different people and different devotions
24
You may lose trust in others
Thinking they’re all the same
With all their bad bold feathers
Playing the same game
25
You will put up a wall
Judging others might happen in a rush
Because of your fear to fall
As you fight against the crush
26
At times, your strength will engage
With courage to be found
As the world becomes a stage
With music in the round
27
But, a new sound may be only temporary
Soon to leave your head
The voice of ever symphony
That deserts your heart instead
28
You might become crazy
I am not trying to scare you
Your head will be so hazy
Sucking in the dew
29
The emotional strain
May send your body into shock
You’ll experience physical pain
That will make you rock
30
There will be headaches
Indigestion, heart palpitation
Unending quakes
And ceaseless agitation
31
Your spirit may take a break from you
To leave you time with yourself
You may still be alone with how you do
Taken down, broken apart, set out on a shelf
32
Move away from suffering
Stay away from suddenly feeling great
Pay attention to the living
With short lives that wait
33
Rest your mind in a quiet place
Serenity is good reprieve
Compassion is a welcomed face
For what you must believe
34
It’s so easy to lose your mind
But you may still win your best
Who could be so unkind
To you, the best of the rest?
35
No one talks about betrayal
And I wonder why
Child, this is not a plan to delay all
Betrayal will make you fly
36
I mean flying like a sorceress
Without the broom
Without the rest of forgiveness
With no mercy in her womb
37
Nothing is more devastating to the spirit
Than a betrayal by one you trust so deep in your heart
This kind of pain forces you against
The innocence you were from the start
38
Betrayal will leave behind
A pain that’s so excruciating
It will make your soul grind
Because the pain is so agonizing
39
Pain can lead to mental breakdown
Because the heart is so fragile
Be tough, so you won’t fall down
Take care of yourself meanwhile
40
Be very careful as you try to heal
You are very vulnerable now
What you are feeling is real
Just listen and don’t ask how
41
Depression is a natural reaction to betrayal
It’s okay to feel the way you do
When all fails, your heart will always be loyal
It will tell you how to make it through
42
You will put on a good show
Pretending that all is okay
Because you don’t want anyone to know
For fear they’ll have a say
43
Meanwhile, you’ll swim in solitude
It’s your way of hiding the pain from everyone
But soon, you’ll have to change your attitude
And confide in someone
44
Find a good friend
One who can provide support
And won’t offend
All you need now is genuine comfort
45
When people notice a new you
Some will be amused
Many might feel for you
While others may be still confused
46
You’ll feel so sorry for yourself
And pretty soon
You might even blame yourself
Which is quite a popular tune
47
You’ll only hurt yourself by calling
You have enough to handle already
Just concentrate on your bawling
Addiction to others is a malady
48
The person who hurt you
Has no capacity to care
What is missing in conscience
Can never bring to bear
49
Please, don’t blame yourself
It’s not what you did or did not do
Instead, take care of yourself
That is the best you can do
50
You’ll drive yourself crazy
Trying to find out why someone hurt you
It’s done because it’s easy
All you must do is take care of “you”
51
There will be much pain inside
That you will not want to bear
Laughter and joy will be set aside
As loss gives way to despair
52
You will feel dead inside
You will no longer appreciate your life
But, remember love is on your side
You should not succumb to strife
53
Take some time to grieve
Things are no longer the same
Your heart is now under siege
You need not have shame
54
You will feel empty spiritually
You must undertake an examination
Try to love yourself unconditionally
With all your best intention
55
Betrayal is like a death that creeps through your heart
Leaving you as helpless as a lost child in a field
It will feel like an angry wave inside your gentle heart
Ready to ravage you while refusing to yield
56
Hold on to hope
You will love again some day
Loss is not the end of the rope
You will find a better way
57
Betrayal may cast upon you a shadow
But it’s also a great learning ground
One that will help you grow
And in time you will rebound
58
Out of challenges come great opportunities
All you have to do is open your heart
Life is a series of beautiful monotries
To see them through, you must do your part
59
Be patient; it’s a long road
One that might do you much good
One that you may even need
To provide you with needed self-hood
60
You might become a great poet
Or great writer or a great knight
You might think of adopting a pet
As you lay awake into the night
61
A newfound goal or career
Might be good for you
You must have no fear
Of becoming something new
62
That new idea you’ve been putting off
Because you were too involved to try it
It’s time to show us what you’re made of
Reach for it you deserve it
63
How about a good deed, done in charity
Doing good for others can rouse the spirit
And a great chance to escape familiarity
The soul, the heart, the mind will all benefit
64
Life is too short and precious
Don’t dwell in sadness and pain
I must admit, life can be ferocious
But the sun can shine through the rain
65
Look at the sunny side
Things happen for a reason
Life has a way to provide
The answer might be revealed soon
66
Sooner or later you will know
Maybe it’s for your own protection
The one we love can sometimes be a great foe
Keep an open mind for your own satisfaction
67
If you make it through this
You’ll make it through anything
Betrayal is more than mist
It is a black hole that sucks in everything
68
You must stand firm
Or the pain will take over your life
And cause you to become infirm
In the face of this amazing strife
69
No matter what you are going through
I promise you that you can do it
You have more power than you know
Try and you’ll see it
70
Someone out there is waiting for you
With a heart open wide
Waiting and willing to care for you
Try it my child, love is on your side
71
Don’t even think about getting even
Revenge is worthless and will hurt your soul
Your heart holds a beautiful heaven
Forgiving is your essential goal
72
Please don’t hurt another
Because you have been hurt by someone
The innocent is not liable for pains by some other
Live for compassion
73
Each time you hurt someone
You take a bite out of your own humanity
Be kind to everyone
Or you’ll contribute to your own malignity
74
It’s okay to feel bad
But, it’s okay to let go
It’s okay to be sad
But you must release the foe
75
Let go of the trauma
Because you deserve better
You don’t need the drama
Bad drama is litter
76
Again, forgiving is the best gift to yourself
Or you will never be able to heal
You must give this precious gift to yourself
See how good you’ll feel
77
Just love yourself
Everything will fall into place
If you believe in yourself
You’ll find your own special space
78
Patience is the cure
Goodness always wins
When the heart is pure
It’s only a matter of time
