INSTALLATION OF DRAINAGE & VENT PIPING

1.0 PURPOSE
To define the method for installation of Drainage & vent piping systems.

2.0 SCOPE
The method Statement is applicable to all drainage & vent piping systems.

3.0 METHOD
Preparatory installation Requirements: 3.1 3.1.1 Prior to installation of drainage and vent pipe works, the supervisor and foreman will verify and ensure that all the safety requirements have been complied with and are in place. The Superior will verify that all relevant approved latest revisions of shop drawings, technical submittals and inspection & test Plans with Code 1 or Code 2 stamp are in the work place for installation reference. This also include installation procedures. The Supervisor and Foreman will inspect all the materials delivered to the work place and ensure that these are the required materials and also for any damage or defect. Materials found not be as per requirement or with damage or defect will be set aside. These will be properly labelled and returned to the warehouse. These will also be reported in a NonConformance Report to the QA/AC Superior. The Supervisor and Foreman will orient and familiarise all the plumbers and assistants involved in the installations regarding the relevant approved shop drawings, technical submittals, installation procedures and details, acceptance criteria and safety requirements. The Supervisor and Foreman will examine surfaces to receive drainage and vent pipe works for compliance with installation tolerances and other required conditions, as described in the installation requirement on specification 15420, Part 3-Execution. 3.1.5 Manufacturers recommended installation instructions: There are no Manufacturers recommended installation instructions available from approved supplier. 3.2 SOFFIT MOUNTED 3.2.1 3.2.2 3.2.3 3.2.4 Checked that the platform is finalised. Transfer the pipes from the stores to the areas which is to be installed. Lift tools, to the platform using rope. Lift mobile Scaffold on the platform When ever climbing ladder, have both hands free. Move Scaffold into the position and check that all wheels are locked and outrigger stabilisers are extend to correct position. Only Scaffold that have been duly inspected, certified and tagged shall be used. Mark out vertical support threaded rod, channel position from grid lines, marking provided by surveyor. Locations will be based on the approved shop drawings. Check the dimensions to the finished face of the wall and / or column, report any discrepancy to TDR Mechanical Engineer. Secure first section of vertical support to the soffit as per the shop drawing details. Clean thoroughly the pipes, so that all dust is removed. Lift the pipes, to the platform using lifts or chain blocks. Fit the bracket support to the pipe. Note this operation may be carried at platform level and the prefabricated assembly lifted into the place. Check the correct elevation of support brackets from the datum provided by surveyor. Do not assume that floor is at correct FFL. Check the tightness of all the bolts. When sufficient number of support brackets are fixed the pipes may be lifted into the position and secured to the bracket. Adjacent length of pipes shall be joined using the above method.

3.2.15 Fittings for the change of direction or elevation shall be selected and installed as per the

approved shop drawings. 3.2.16 At no time are tools and loose materials to be placed on pipes. 3.2.17 For subsequent inspection procedures, see the Project Quality Control Plan QCP 800 M 209. 3.2.18 Submittal pipe number is M021. 3.2.19 Pipe work testing shall be undertaken in accordance with ITP 800 M 209.

WALL MOUNTED. Move scaffold tower into position and check that all wheels are locked and out rigger stabilisers are extended to correct position. Mark out centre line of brackets position check the centre line is plumb, if using cast- in channel, check that channel is plumb. Mark out elevation of brackets using datum provided by surveyor. Do not assume that floor is at correct F.F.L. Fit the brackets as shown in approved drawing details. Check tightness of all Bolts. When sufficient numbers of support brackets are fixed the pipes may be lifted into positions and secured to the brackets. Adjacent lengths of pipes shall be joined by using the same method. Fittings for changes of direction or elevation shall be selected and installed as per the approved shop drawings. At no time are tools or loose materials to be placed on pipes. For subsequent inspection procedures, see Project Quality Control Plan QCP 800 M 209.

3.4 3.4.1

PRESSURE TESTING Pressure testing shall be undertaken in accordance with ITP 800 M 209.

DRAINAGE & VENT PIPING FIRST TEST: 3.4.2 Close opening in piping system & fill with water to point of overflow, but not less than 30 kPa. Water level must not drop from 15 minutes before inspection starts through completion of inspection. Inspect all joints for leaks.

DRAINAGE & VENT PIPING SECOND TEST: 3.4.4 3.4.5 3.4.6 After plumbing fixtures have been set & traps filled with water, test connections & prove they are gastight & watertight. Plug vent-stack openings on roof & building drains where they leave the building. Introduce air into piping system equal to pressure of 250 Pa. Use U-Tube or manometer inserted in trap of water closet to measure this pressure. Air pressure must remain constant without introducing additional air throughout period inspection.

FORCE-MAIN PIPING TEST 3.4.7 3.4.8 3.4.9 3.4.10 Subject piping to static water pressure of 345 kPa above operating pressure, without exceeding pressure rating of piping system materials. Isolate test source and allow to stand for 4 hours. Leaks and loss in test pressure constitute defects that must be repaired. Discharge the used water in the nearest sump pit and pump it to the main drain system with a lift pump.

5.0 INSPECTION & MEASURING EQUIPMENT USED


5.1 U-Tube & or manometer. Inspections are broken-up into three phases. 5.2 Phase 1 Preparatory 5.2.1 5.2.2 5.2.3 5.2.4 5.2.5 Check to ensure that all materials are of approved type. Ensure provisions have been made to provide control testing where / if required. Check to ensure that all preliminary works have been completed within the work area. Check to ensure access lights & all safety matters have been addressed. Check to ensure all materials for the inspection of vent & drainage pipework system is available (approved type).

5.3 Phase 2 Initial inspection 5.3.1 5.3.2 This inspection will be carried out as soon as a representative portion of a particular phase of installation has been completed. This will establish the acceptable standard of workmanship, including a review of controlled testing for compliance with specification requirements. INSTALLATION OF DRAINAGE & VENT PIPING

5.3.3 Defective or damaged materials, omission & diementional checks will also be confirmed. 5.4 Phase 3 Follow-up inspections 5.4.1 The follow-up inspections will be carried out on a daily basis. The checks will include but not limited too:

Ensure the installation of vent & drainage pipework complies with specific requirements. Ensure all testing is of a controlled manner, until completion of a particular phase of installation. For all the above inspections, if the engineer is to be present, 24 hours notice is to be given. Please refer to ITP-800-M-209 for installation of vent & drainage pipework.

6.0 EQUIPMENT USED

Safety equipment ( for example, Hard Hats, Safety Shoes, Coveralls, Gloves, Goggles, Face mask as applicable) to be worn at all times. Ensure sufficient lighting is available during all stages of installation & testing.
