Work Experience
Pre-Maths Course Editor, UCL, Department of Physics and Astronomy (Summer 2012) Volunteered for the task of editing and adding to the existing 'Pre-Maths' module available to first year Physics students on UCLs internet based learning platform: Moodle. I quality checked the existing content for the integration and vectors chapters - making amendments to quiz questions and their solutions, before adding seven new sub-sections of my own. Each sub-section includes a video tutorial with an accompanying quiz. These will be made available to physics undergraduates entering UCL in 2014. Research Intern: Cambridge University - Institute of Astronomy (Summer 2011) Awarded a Nuffield Foundation Undergraduate research bursary for the Probing the Origin of the Magellanic Stream project. Using data from the Very Large Telescope (VLT) in Chile, under the supervision of Dr. Andrew Fox, I generated and analysed absorption spectra in IDL. Having further manipulated the data in two ionisation spectroscopy programs (RDGEN and VPFIT), I wrote 2 scripts in IDL; one to compute and tabulate meaningful results such as metallicity, and another to display
these graphically. A paper in which my contribution is noted has been accepted for publication in the Astrophysical journal (April 2013). Shop Staff, Cybercandy Islington & Camden Town (July September 2012) Duties included: working the tills, cleaning and organising display areas, performing cash drops and promoting products. Head Boy and Lead Student, St.Neots Community College (2008 2009) Multiple roles and responsibilities including organising and chairing student council meetings, touring parents and promoting the college through presentations given on open days and in assemblies. As a member of the lead student programme I was asked, along with a team, to identify the causes and offer solutions to bad behaviour within secondary schools. This involved talking with tearaway students, devising and circulating surveys, collecting the results and combining these to produce an informative yet entertaining presentation. The presentation was first performed at the Cambridge Outreach Network for Education conference (which as head boy I was asked to host), later being requested by the University of Bedfordshire for trainee teachers undergoing their PGCE course.
