INTEGRAL OVER GENERAL REGIONS
The iterated integral means that we integrate
in the following order:
1. With respect to z (keeping x and y fixed)
2. With respect to y (keeping x fixed)
3. With respect to x

TRIPLE INTEGRALS
Describe in terms of x, y and z, the solid region
bounded by the four planes
x = 0, y = 0, z = 0, x + y + z = 1,
and evaluate

When we set up a triple integral, its wise
to draw two diagrams:
The solid region
Its projection on the xy-plane
Example 2 TRIPLE INTEGRALS
The lower boundary of the volume is
the plane z = 0 and the upper boundary is
the plane x + y + z = 1 (or z = 1 x y).
So, we use u
1
(x, y) = 0
and u
2
(x, y) = 1 x y .
Therefore:
Example 2 TRIPLE INTEGRALS
y x z s s 1 0
Notice that the planes x + y + z = 1 and z = 0
intersect in the line x + y = 1 (or y = 1 x)
in the xy-plane.
So, the projection of the solid
is the triangular region
shown here.
Therefore:

APPLICATIONS OF TRIPLE INTEGRALS
If f(x, y, z) =1 at all points of the region V,
then:
If the function f(x,y,z) is the density function
of a solid object that occupies the region V,
