Quietly Into The Presence of God: An Acts Prayer Booklet
Introduction
This prayer booklet is designed to aid us in our time of prayer. This is not for our quick prayers which may last only a few seconds, but concentrated prayer times which may last for a half hour or an hour or more. The general outline of prayer follows the ACTS sequence plus an addition, with a time of adoration of the God who is majestic, followed by a period of confessing to the God who forgives, then a time of thanking the God who is generous, and a time of supplication or asking the God who answers, and finishing with a time of commitment to the God who loves you. This model covers the major areas of our conversation with God, but there are other things we need to pray about too. One caution is to not get caught up in trying to concentrate too much on the model. It is there as an aid to coming to God. We may think about the structure of the prayer time and forget the one we are talking to and thinking about. Also, do not try to get through the whole list of things to thank God for or adore God for. Take your time and think about your requests for that day. When I pray for, or thank God for my children, I think of each one individually, and pray for his or her needs on that day. These lists are an aid for us to come to God. The first thing we do when we start to pray is come into the presence of God with our whole being. We greet God, recognize who he is, and dedicate the time we have to being with our Lord. There will be distractions, but try to concentrate on what you are doing with God. Think about what you are doing as you pray. Listen to what he has to say to you through the song and scripture, and through what he communicates to you directly while you are praying. If you are distracted for a time, come back into the presence of God and dwell in the joy found only there. Come to the Lord. Revel in your time with the God who created the universe and wants to commune with you.

Fair is the sunshine, Fairer still the moon light, And all the twinkling starry host: Jesus is shines brighter, Jesus shines purer Than all the angels heaven can boast. Beautiful Savior! Lord of all the nations! Son of God and Son of Man! Glory and honor, Praise adoration Now and forever more be thine.

Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. 12 In a loud voice they sang: "Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!" Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: "To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!" REV 5:14 The four living creatures said, "Amen," and the elders fell down and worshiped.

Confess to the God who Forgives Amazing Grace by John Newton Amazing grace how sweet the sound that save a wretch like me! I once was lost but now am found, was blind but now I see. Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fear relieved. How precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed. Thru many dangers, toils and snares I have already come; Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home. When weve been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun, Weve no less days to sing Gods praise than when wed first begun. Scripture reading from Psalm 32.
PS 32:1
Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. PS 32:2 Blessed is the man whose sin the LORD does not count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit. PS 32:3 When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. PS 32:4 For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. PS 32:5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD"--and you forgave the guilt of my sin.

Ask the God who Answers Sweet Hour of Prayer by William Walford Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer, That calls me from a world of care, And bids me at my Fathers throne Make all my wants and wishes know. In seasons of distress and grief My soul has often found relief. And oft escaped the tempters snare By thy return, sweet hour of prayer. Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer, Thy wings shall all my petitions bear To him whose truth and faithfulness Engage the waiting soul to bless: And since He bids me seek His face, Believe His words, and trust His grace, Ill cast on him my every care, And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer. Scripture Reading from Philippians 4.4 7. Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Commit to the God who loves you Who is on the Lords Side? By Frances R. Havergal Who is on the Lords side? Who will serve the King? Who will be His helpers, other lives to bring. Who will leave the worlds side? Who will face the foe? Who is on the Lords side? Who for Him will go? By Thy call of mercy, by Thy grace divine, We are on the lords side, Savior, we are Thine. Jesus, you have bought us, not with gold or gem, But with Thine own life-blood, for Thy diadem. With Thy blessing filling each who comes to Thee. You have made us willing, You have made us free.. By Thy grand redemption, by Thy grace divine, We are on the Lords side, Savior, we are Thine. Fierce may be the conflict, strong may be the foe, But the Kings own army none can overthrow. Round His standard gathered, victory is sure. For His truth unchanging make the triumph sure. Joyfully enlisting by Thy grace divine, We are on the Lords side, Savior, we are thine. Scripture Reading Philippians 1.20 - 24 I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. 21 For me to live is Christ and to die is gain. 22 If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! 23 I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; 24 but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body.

Cycle Three
EPH 1:3
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will-- 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace 8 that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. 9 And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10 to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment--to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ.

Confess to the God who Forgives Whiter than Snow by James Nicholson Lord Jesus, I long to be perfectly whole; I want you forever to live in my soul. Break down every idol, cast out every foe Now wash me and I shall be whiter than snow Chorus: Whiter than snow, yes, whiter than snow Now wash me and I shall be whiter than snow. Lord Jesus, for this I most humbly entreat; I wait, blessed Lord, at Your crucified feet; By faith, for my cleansing I see Your blood flow Now wash me and I shall be whiter than snow. Lord Jesus, before You I patiently wait; Come now and within me a new heart create; To those who have sought You, You never said No Now wash me and I shall be whiter than snow. Scripture reading from Romans 6.

What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin-- 7 because anyone who has died has been freed from sin.
RO 6:5
Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne and who lives for ever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne, and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say:

Commit to the God who Loves you More like the Master by Charles H. Gilbert More like the Master I would be, More of His meekness, more humility; more zeal to labor, more courage to be true, More consecration for work He bids me do. Chorus: Take Thou my heart, I would be Thine alone; Take Thou my heart and make it all Thine own. Purge me from sin, O Lord, I now implore, Wash me and keep me Thine forever more. More like the Master is my daily prayer, more strength to carry crosses I must bear; More earnest effort to bring His kingdom in, More of His Spirit, the wanderer to win. Chorus: Take Thou my heart, I would be Thine alone; Take Thou my heart and make it all Thine own. Purge me from sin, O Lord, I now implore, Wash me and keep me Thine forever more. More like the Master I would live and grow, more of His love To others I would show; More self-denial, like His in Galilee, More like the Master I long to ever be. Chorus: Take Thou my heart, I would be Thine alone; Take Thou my heart and make it all Thine own. Purge me from sin, O Lord, I now implore, Wash me and keep me Thine forever more.
