ILLUSTRATORSTATE SHAPE
ASSIGNMENT: Choose one of the 50 United States. (You will be using the same state for projects 1-4.) Use Google to find an image of your state. You will then use Illustrator tools to recreate the states outline. ILLUSTRATOR PDF: Workspace > artboard overview; rulers, grids, guides; tool galleries; tools; workspace basics Drawing > live trace, drawing basics, drawing simple lines and shapes Selecting and Arranging Objects Importing, Exporting & Saving OBJECTIVES: Explore Illustrator Learn to master MAC Basics, Illustrators Workspace, Selection Tools, & Drawing Tools To refine software skills SPECIFICATIONS: 1. Must be printed proportionally on an 11 x 17" paper. 2. Must be created in one Illustrator file containing 5 artboards. (4 8.5x11 and 1 11x17) 3. You will be recreating your states outline 3 times using: - Live Trace adjusted from any default/preset trace option - Pen Tool for an accurate representation - Shape Tools to create a stylized look using at least 3 shapes 4. One 8.5x11 artboard will be for your original state file. Three 8.5 x 11 artboards, 1 for each of your representations. 5. One 11x17 artboard to arrange your 3 representations on to create a comprehensive presentation. 6. Please collect at least 5 images of state outlined based art for your Journal 7. Note in your journal, thoughts you have during this project. Short cuts or tricks that would make a similar project easier in the future. PROCESS: Think about how you are using the tools to create illustrations, compared to traditional drawing tools. (Pencils, scissors, using rulers, etc.) Also consider how these 3 individual illustrations could be viewed and presented as a collection. TIMELINE: Find inspiration / Sketch in your Journal Select Google image (You must use the exact image as inspiration for each of the first 4 projects) Setup Illustrator file, artboards, color mode, etc. Execute all 3 versions of your states outline on the computer Take notes in your journal while creating your projects Print final versions TURN IN: Printed 11x17 comprehensive representation Burnt CD containing .ai file, .pdf file, Google file, inspirations (located in a separate folder) Put Name, Date, and Proj. # on ALL items being turned in DUE DATE: January 30, 2013 @ 6PM

Collection Are all 3 scaled proportionately to best fit on the 11x17 page? Skills Did you use new software skills and creative thought to meet project requirements and a visually appealing project?
