April 18, 2013

Dear Families,
Please mark your calendars for Parent Classroom Visitation Days on May 8th and May 14th from 9:30 - 10:30. These days are set aside for parents of children that will be moving to another level. For example Primary to Lower Elem., Lower Elem. to Upper Elem., and Upper Elem. to MS. During this time parents can visit the individual classrooms of the level for 10 minutes intervals. Parents are asked to rotate through the classrooms, so they are able to see the differences in all classes. All parents will receive a Classroom Placement Feedback Form to complete. The form asked for you to identify the characteristics of your child and the characteristics of a teacher. Your characteristic similarities will be considered, along with teacher recommendation for your childs placement for next year. Please do not write the name of a specific teacher on the Classroom Placement Forms. When your form is completed please drop it off at the front office by the end of the day on May 20th. For the second year, our students were invited by the National Park Service to participate in the creation of a mural in conjunction with the National Cherry Blossom Festival. Students created artwork which illustrated the concepts of: friendship, cooperation, gift -giving, and peace. Dozens of our students school-wide participated and had their artwork sent electronically to Japan. In return, Japanese students also sent us their artwork. Our students pictures were also displayed at the Tidal Basin during the Cherry Blossom Festival. Visitors to the festival added to the mural which spanned over 3,000 feet! On Wednesday the Mayor of Frederick, Randy McClement and National Park, Ranger John Kirkpatrick were both here to see our Japanese/American Friendship Mural, currently on display in the PE/ Multipurpose Room. I would like to thank all of the parents, teachers and students that volunteered during the Open House on Wednesday night. The success of this annual event would not be possible without the efforts of the Community Involvement Committee and their chairperson, Jenn Nichols. The Open House provides an opportunity for our new families to visit the school and meet some of the staff at each level. Have a wonderful weekend, Cita
2 HOUR EARLY DISMISSAL, TUESDAY, APRIL 30TH Mark your calendars for a 2-hour early dismissal on Tuesday, April 30. Students will be dismissed at 1:45 p.m. for a teacher work session. There will be no After Care.

EARTH DAY FAIR TOMORROW! Please plan to attend the Earth Day fair and swap this Friday at school! The fair and swap begin at dismissal2:45 p.m. There will be a variety of activities, crafts, and a bake sale/concessions stand. The swap is open to all, even if you didn't drop off items. For the swap, drop off your items (clothing, toys, books . . .) in the sanctuary/auditorium Friday morning. Items should be in good condition and small enough to fit into a grocery bag.

If you have spare buttons, we would love to use them for a craft at the fair. Also, if you have any large appliance-type cardboard boxes, feel free to bring them on Friday. The kids have a blast playing with them in the courtyard during the fair.
We have not scheduled a rain date for the Earth Day fair, but the swap will happen regardless. There is no charge for anything except the (optional) concessions. Donations of pre-packaged food items are being accepted for the concessions. If you would like to help at the fair, please contact Julie Odland at : [email protected] or find me at the fair! Hope to see you on Friday!

Dear MMCI Community Members: The MMCI Auction, May 10th, is quickly approaching and we are excited! Our vision for this event is to build our community, create enthusiasm and support for the work of MMCI, and raise at least $14,000 to support the non-profit that provides so much to our sister schools. You should have received your invitation through your childs Thursday folder. The cost is $15.00 per adult. What do you get for your ticket price? A delicious meal prepared by Executive Chef Roman Cristali; a bid number and rights to bid on all kinds of fantastic items and services, optional supervised childcare and a chance to socialize with old and new friends. Dear Friends,

PAGE 2

I am so excited to share this great news with you. An anonymous donor with children in our schools has offered to give up to $2,000 as a match to the MMCI Pledge Drive. Heres how it works. For every pledge of $10 or more that an MMCI family gives between January 1 and June 24, 2013, the donor will match $10. If 200 families each give $10, MMCI will receive $2000.

The great thing is that this match even applies if you have already given, as long as your gift was made after January 1, 2013. If you donated before January 1, then you will need to donate again for MMCI to receive a match. Heres how to give: Drop a check made out to MMCI in the MMCI mailbox at your school and write pledge drive in the memo line. Or go to your schools website and click on the DONATE button.
We know that every family with children in an MMCI school has unique circumstances. Thats why I hope you will feel good about giving at a level that is right for your familywhether it is $10, $50 or $500. Each and every gift is special and makes our community stronger. Your gift to the pledge drive enables MMCI to pay for teacher training, enrichment programs, facility maintenance and improvements. But thats not all that MMCI does. MMCIs team of volunteers is responsible for the critical work of overseeing academic success, operations, governance, and fiscal and facility management at Carroll Creek Montessori and Monocacy Valley Montessori. I hope you can join in with other MMCI families and make a gift today to the MMCI pledge drive. Together we can make a match and raise $2000. Thank you for your generosity! Mustafa Karakus, President MMCI

One new feature this year is our Kids Marketplace. Both schools have bins out to collect new and unopened books, toys, and unused gift cards. Now is your chance to clean out your closets and support a good cause at the same time! These items will be inexpensively priced for kids to purchase they get a goodie while strengthening MMCI! If you have questions about this, please contact Jennifer Villalobos at [email protected]. Shes also coordinating the supervised childcare which will have fun activities and a kids raffle.
We are continuing to secure donations and would like your help. Sponsors are also stepping up to support MMCI to cover the costs of the event. Sponsorship levels range from $100 to $1000 dollars, each with specific benefits. If you have donations or want to help with a sponsorship, or have questions please let Theresa Shrader know by contacting her at [email protected] or 240.446.0111. CHECK THE LOST & FOUND!
