Biomechanics Investigation
Biomechanics Investigation
Biomechanics Investigation
Purpose: The focus of this assessment is to further explore the importance of Sports Biomechanics to physical performance. Description of Assessment: Students will use the knowledge they have gained over the last few weeks on sports biomechanics and apply it to the sport of Volleyball. This will be done through the means of an investigation. Your investigation will include the following: 1. Choose a biomechanical principle from each of the Newtonian Laws. For each principle, describe how there is evidence of its use within the application of Volleyball different skills. You may use images to visualise what it is that you are trying to explain. (350 words) 2. Using biomechanical terms, explain why an overhead serve would be more advantageous than an underarm serve in Volleyball. (100 words) 3. Using the video footage from your first Volleyball lesson, analyse a skill that you performed that could be performed better biomechanically. Explain why it needs improving and how this could be done. During the next week the video cameras will be used once again for a practical lesson. Record yourself performing the skill and analyse if there has been improvement in both biomechanical technique and performance. Describe the differences between your initial technique and your new one. (400 words) 4. Ensure information is gathered from various sources to support your judgements. Include a bibliography with at least four sources. Assessment Conditions: The word count for each section is just a guide. However, the maximum word count for the investigation is 1000 words Domain Knowledge and Understanding Outcome KU1 Knowledge and understanding of the nature of physical activity. KU2 Knowledge and understanding of appropriate terminology. AR1 Analysis of, and reflection on, practical techniques and performance. AR3 Use of information from different sources with appropriate acknowledgement
