Grade 4: The Magic Mirror

The Magic Mirror. A famous fable from the land of Spain presented to you as a bedtime story to enjoy. In the ancient kingdom of Granada there lives a handsome king, loved by all his subjects. But alas, he cannot find a wife - until the Royal Barber comes up with a solution. Be sure to listen and look out for the adorable loyal sheep, a reference to Beyonc and the lovely ladies and gentlemen of Granada as they search for their Queen. Who will it be? One of the Single Ladies ? With a King so good looking it should be an easy quest. Ole! This item should result in a lot of laughs, especially for the good wives who listen!

Grade 5: Festivals
Hola amigos! Sit down, buckle up and enjoy the ride! It is about to get bumpy, as we take the Thomas Express to experience the many fiestas Spain has to offer. We climb a pole and throw tomatoes at the La Tomatina Festival and get chased by really big bulls, no bull! But in the end we dance the night away, Carnivale style, under the Spanish stars in a festival to end all festivals.

Grade 6: Why Spanish?


Lunchtime. Grade 6 children are outside standing around talking about the changes that are happening to the school s curriculum. Why are we changing to Spanish? , is the issue most discussed. Come along with the 6 s and discover why this significant change has been implemented.

Thank you to Danny Thomas who assisted our grades by choreographing and teaching the massed dance items for each year level. To those parents who volunteered their time to assist with costumes, a huge thank you. The production wouldn t be possible without all of this assistance. Finally, to all the children and staff of Berwick Primary School. This production was conceived, written and executed by a school community with a tremendous amount of support, care, vision and energy.

Grade 1: Dancing
The children come out into the playground when the bell rings. They decide to practice the Spanish dances that they have been learning in class. The first group are doing the Mexican Hat Dance which is the national danceof Mexico. In another part of the yard children can be heard singing and dancing along to the beat of the Mexican folk song La Bamba. Following that a third group of children dance to the popular Spanish folk song the Macarena. The children return to their classroom when the bell rings and recess is over.

Grade 2: The Football World Cup


This is the story of Jago, a 10 year old boy who lives in a small village in Spain. It begins in the year 1998 and Jago has just seen his beloved Spanish football team eliminated from the Soccer World Cup. Jago dreams of becoming a world famous footballer, just like his grandfather used to be. Jago learns ballet to help become a better player and he makes it into the Spanish team for the World Cup Final in 2010. Will Spain win the World Cup???

3 students are engaging in a typically educationally rich learning experience at Berwick Primary School. Their teacher is facilitating an inquiry into Spanish as a language. Their journey will take them through many aspects of Spanish culture, as they overcome the fear of the unknown, and ultimately discover that Spanish is pretty cool!

Opening Number: 1519 - Spice Up Your Life


Accompany Ferdinand Magellan on his famous voyage around the world. Magellan was a Portuguese sailor who, supported by Spain, masterminded the first expedition to circumnavigate the globe. His goal was to reach the prestigious Spice Islands and claim the route for Spain. Experience this dramatic event, with music and dance representing key historical stages, as we race for the spice.

Grade 3: The Flamenco


Embark on a journey to Spain with grade 3 and experience the wonderment and awe of Spanish history. Yes the paella is mouth-watering but be absorbed by the swirls and twirls of the exotic dance, the flamenco. A dance that reflects the gypsie s spirit of desperation, struggle, hope and pride.

Middle Number - La Oruga Hambrienta


The Hungry Caterpillar is a children's picture book designed, illustrated and written by Eric Carle. It was first published in 1969. The book follows a caterpillar as it eats its way through a wide variety of foodstuffs before pupating and emerging as a butterfly. The book has been translated into at least 40 languages one of which, as you will hear, is Spanish.
