Technical information
Limitations Gyptone tiles, planks and boards are unsuitable for use in areas subject to continuously damp or humid conditions or subjected to temperatures consistently above 49C. They can be exposed to freezing temperatures without risk of damage. Environment Gyptone tiles, planks and boards are suitable for use under normal occupancy conditions. Buildings in which Gyptone is used should be dry, glazed and enclosed with environmental conditions of no greater than 70% relative humidity at 10-20C. Handling and storage British Gypsum fully accepts its responsibilities as a supplier of building materials and systems as required by Section 6 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. However, in designing and installing systems incorporating British Gypsum products, full consideration must be taken of the legal requirements of: 1 Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992. 2 Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 1994. 3 Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1988 (COSHH). Your attention is brought to the following publications which give approved guidance: 1 Manual Handling Guidance on Regulations, ISBN 0 11 886335 5. 2 Managing Construction for Health and Safety ACOP, ISBN 0 7 7176 0792 5. 3 A Guide to Managing Health and Safety in Construction, ISBN 0 7176 0755 0. 4 Designing for Health and Safety in Construction, ISBN 0 7176 0807 7. 5 The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health in the Construction Industry, ISBN 0 11 885526 3. Safety Data Sheets (giving safety, handling and storage details) are available on request, or from our website: www.british-gypsum.com Contact British Gypsum Drywall Academy Advice Centre on 08705 456123. Reaction to fire The exposed surface of Gyptone tiles, planks and boards achieve Class 0 rating when tested to BS 476: Parts 6 and 7. Under Building Regulations Part B 2000 -Amendment 2002, the exposed surfaces of Gyptone tiles, planks and boards are designated Euroclass B. Gyptone ceilings provide good fire performance owing to the unique behaviour of the non-combustible gypsum core when subjected to high temperatures. Gypsum board is designated a material of limited combustibility within Building Regulations 1991. Acoustic performance Sound absorption Gyptone QUATTRO, POINT and LINE provide sound absorption when used in conjunction with an air space behind the ceiling. Tests have been carried out to BS EN 20354: 1993 and ISO 354: 1985 with a range of plenum depths . Increased levels of sound absorption can be achieved by including glass mineral wool over the back of the ceiling. The single figure rating practical sound absorption coefficients w , shown in tables on pages 4 - 12 are calculated in accordance with EN ISO 11654: 1997. The Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC ) figures shown in tables on pages 4 - 12, are calculated in accordance with ASTM C423 -90a: 1992. Sound attenuation Gyptone QUATTRO, POINT and LINE are perforated tiles, planks and boards with an integral acoustic tissue designed to provide sound absorption within the area they are installed. Where room-toroom sound insulation is required the sound attenuation Dncw can be increased to 39dB with the inclusion of 100mm Isowool General Purpose Roll over the back of the ceiling. Alternatively, other design considerations can be adopted such as extending adjoining partitions into the ceiling void or installing a plenum barrier. Gyptone BASE is an unperforated product and has been tested to BS EN 20140-9: 1994 for room-to-room sound insulation. All products quote a PSR number. This is a unique number we allocate to all products and systems that references all the latest substantiations we hold. By quoting these figures on enquiries about the product, we are able to give you the most accurate and up to date advice and information.
13
Sitework Installation Gyptone boards are fixed to CasoLine MF or CasoLine CURVE systems. A range of access panels are available that allow access to the ceiling void. Gyptone D1 edge tiles are installed into CasoLine T24 D1 grid, and Gyptone planks are installed into CasoLine T15p grid systems. Gyptone A and E15 edge tiles are installed in a 15mm or 24mm grid. The designer should ensure the system used is capable of supporting the tile load. All ceiling tiles and planks are fully demountable, allowing access to the ceiling void. For full installation details, please refer to White Book and SiteBook sections c10 - CasoLine MF, c10.1 - CasoLine CURVE and c12 - CasoLine GRID. Fixtures Spot lights and downlighters are best located in Gyptone BASE or in the unperforated zones of other Gyptone designs. Maintenance Gyptone can be cleaned using a damp cloth. Most standard mild detergents can be used. Gyptone can be re-decorated, if required, using a roller and a suitable emulsion paint. The perforated tiles should not be spray painted as this may impair the sound absorption performance. Finishing Gyptone boards Refer to White Book and SiteBook section n15 - Jointing.
