FACULTY POSITIONS IN MINING ENGINEERING

AT McGILL UNIVERSITY
The Department of Mining and Materials Engineering at McGill University invites applications
for several tenure track positions in Mining at the Assistant Professor level or higher, if qualified.
The Department offers B.Eng., Master’s and Doctorate degrees. There are 86 full-time
undergraduate students and 16 graduate students in the Mining program. The Department has

Areas of interest cover all aspects of mining, and include:


Environmental mining, including innovative, sustainable mine design solutions, mine
optimization, sustainable processing and mine closure/reclamation plans.
Sustainable mineral resource management, interfacing with modeling, simulation, operations
research, geosciences for the sustainable development of the earth’s mineral and energy
resources.
Open pit mining, including design and production scheduling, equipment selection, mine to mill,
environmental impact, waste management, rehabilitation.
Underground mining. stressing innovative solutions to and challenges related to planning, ore
and waste flow, automation and robotics, heat and air ventilation.
Mineral economics and mineral asset valuation, including financial modeling and stochastic
mineral market forecasting.

Candidates should hold a doctoral degree and a B.Eng. preferably in mining engineering or an
allied applied science or engineering field and have a commitment to teaching at both
undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate must demonstrate an ability to
establish and sustain a dynamic research activity in his/her area of expertise.
