The soil mechanics laboratory practical is a part and a complement to the soil mechanics course. The first aim of this lab course is to illustrate some of the principles taught during the soil mechanics course. It is also an essential part of a master program in engineering geology since this course allows the students to become familiar with fundamental and index tests used in practice to classify soils and quantify their engineering properties. - Knowledge of laboratory and index testing methods commonly used in geotechnical engineering (principles, advantages and limitations, selection of the most appropriate testing method with respect to the problem requirements and constraints ;) - Analysis of laboratory results (data processing, variability and significance; validity of the results ;) - Interpretation of test results (soil behaviour, sample properties vs. in
